Every relationship is like a shelter. But not every relationship is meant to be a home.
Allie has always thought that when you find "the one", everything in life will fall into place. That love will always find a way in the end. But soon, she realizes that loving someone isn't enough to make a relationship succeed. And, sometimes, loving someone too much can ignite a relationship as quickly as it could extinguish one.
Her self-discovery journey began with her first crush in high school and continues today with the man she calls her home .
Allie's breaking point comes when she body slams her ex-boyfriend's date at a wedding, which goes viral on TikTok. Ultimately, she weaves through a series of romances, stoking every emotion and doubt, leaving her convinced she is broken and afraid to commit to anyone.
“Every relationship is like a shelter. But not every relationship is meant to be a home.”
Allie sees relationships as being like a house. Some aren’t a good fit. Some need to be moved out of. One may end up feeling like home.
Allie reflects on different types of relationships as she recounts her experiences from her first boyfriend up to finding her forever home and also shares stories of some of her friends. Allie has some very profound thoughts about liaisons as she traverses through her life. There are disappointments, embarrassments, heartbreak, and, finally, hope.
A short, well written work, I loved the analogy of a relationship being like a house. It’s such a clear analogy, yet one I’ve never really thought of. I think many will relate to different experiences/emotions in this book and I recommend it to anyone looking for a contemporary romance. It also would make a thoughtful gift to a friend who might be going through her own trials and tribulations trying to find her home.
The Man Who Feels Like Home is a young adult novel which explores toxic relationships, cheating, abuse and the dangers and awareness of dating apps. This storyline emphasises the desire to love and be loved and how as humans we constantly feel the need to please others. The author reminds us of how easy it is for us to stop loving and caring for ourselves and that we must prioritise ourselves before trying to get to know and love someone else.
We follow a girl called Allie, who is trying to find a ‘home’ that is just right for her. She wants someone who makes her feel safe and comfortable when she’s in their presence however this doesn’t come easy for Allie. Before finding the perfect home, she goes through some pretty brutal feelings that were caused by all of her exes treating her horribly; this led to her having to battle to try and love herself again before moving on to someone new. Whilst in a vulnerable position, she attends a wedding that her ex-boyfriend and his new girl are also at. During the bouquet toss, her jealousy gets a little too out of control and she ends up attacking the girl in front of everyone! To make matters worse, someone had recorded it and posted it on TikTok leading her to go viral. So now she must recover from all of this whilst not having a single clue where she wants to get to in life. That is until she finally meets Mattis. How will Allie cope with the journey this time after all the other relationships crumbled to failure?
As well as getting to know Allie’s story, we also learn about the journeys of two of her friends. Sienna, who had an experience with her and her husband falling out of love and trying to rekindle it, and Julie, who called off her wedding when she realised her husband wasn’t the man she thought he was.
Considering this was the author's first book, I thought it was excellent and was planned out very well! I really enjoyed the metaphors that were used about homes, they were very clever and memorable! One of my favourites was ‘They just didn’t know that building a home is a lifetime process. You don’t move in and just wait there to die. Instead, you bring in new decorations from time to time and renovate your home when you need to.’ As well as the author's own astonishing quotes, she carefully chose quotes from other authors at the beginning of a new chapter that correlated with that part of the book. Overall, I was impressed by how relatable and hard-hitting this book was.
Although I have a very positive view towards The Man Who Feels Like Home, there were a few improvements that could be made. For example, some areas in the novel were unclear and it would’ve been very beneficial for the author to have given more background and information on the setting and characters and to have used a bit more of the ‘Show Not Tell’ technique. There were also a couple noticeable grammatical errors but it didn’t affect the storyline or the message that the author was sending across to the reader.
I would recommend this book for teenagers and adults as I think the messages in this book are very powerful and would also be very helpful to anyone who has had disastrous previous relationships. I think this because this book makes you reflect deeply on how you act around other human beings and how you want to act around them; it makes you understand how important self-love and self-care are. Also, the author distinctly shows the difference between a healthy relationship that has boundaries and an unhealthy, toxic relationship. This is really important for any person to keep in mind when in relationships.
Roxana M Rotaru has done a brilliant job writing this book, I definitely want to read more of her work!
I can’t say I’ve ever read a book quite like this one. From the beginning of Allie’s story I was intrigued because her analogy of love being like a home, hit a little closer to home (no pun intended) than I thought it would.
Allie leads us down this path to follow along as she she is giving her comparison of houses and love. This is done by Allie giving us insight on past relationships of others as well as herself and all the stuff in between and mental taxing that was experienced.
To many times during this read, I found myself reflecting on my own past relationships. That being of young love, my own shortcomings, self doubt, even some being a deep sigh of relief(dodged a bullet with that one).
Overall: this was a quick, sometimes quirky, too relatable, brain teaser of a read. Really got my mind to think and take a look back on my own actions and past relationships.
I would definitely recommend this book. Not my typical read but was such a wonderful and beautiful read.
“The person you are with should be your escape, your cherished getaway from the world around you. If they’re not, give them back to the world.”
'Entering a new relationship is pretty much like moving into a new house. It’s a new chapter in our lives and the beginning of a process that can be long and challenging.' - așa sună filozofia lui Allie prin care începe să-și analizeze relațiile, în procesul anevoios de a-și scrie povestea ei de dragoste lângă omul lângă care poate în sfârșit să fie acasă.
'Sometimes happiness comes walking through doors you didn't even know you'd left open.' Câteodată Allie crede că a avut noroc, fără să știe că va fi doar o altă etapă, prin care Allie va trece.
'Nobody ever told me being heartbroken was like being homeless.' Și a nu avea o casă este un stagiu în găsirea unui cămin câteodată, chiar dacă nu cel mai comod, dar Allie merge mai departe.
'You can spend years building your home's foundation, but it could still fall apart if that foundation isn't solid.'
"Every relationship is like a shelter. But not every relationship is meant to be a home." The Man Who Feels Like Home is a beautifully written romance novel with a focus on self-discovery and the challanges of relationships. The theme of the book is the idea that love alone cannot sustain a relationship, and that finding the right person requires both love and compatibility. And having a successful relationship also requires awareness of one's own self, one's own needs and insecurities. As the title suggests, the concept of this book is that finding the right person should feels like finding the right home to live in. The protagonist, Allie, goes through a journey of self-discovery that spans over multiple relationships. She learns something after every break-up and becomes better, wiser, and stronger person. Allie's story is real, raw, and so relatable, it is full of emotions, hope and love. The fact that her journey is also triggered by a viral social media video also adds an interesting element to the plot. Overall, the book is a short, lighthearted, enjoyable read that explores the complexities of relationships and the struggles that come with finding the right person. The idea that Allie may have finally found the one after experiencing multiple failed relationships also gives a sense of hope and anticipation.
Okay but LISTEN… this book grabbed me by the messy bun, dragged me onto the emotional roller coaster, and then bought me a churro afterwards because it KNEW I needed comfort.
This is Allie’s era, and honestly? I was front row cheering her on like a proud, slightly feral auntie. The way this story turns relationships into shelters...some cozy, some drafty, some full-on fire hazards...had me nodding like “yes… I’ve lived in all of these.”
The viral wedding body slam?? I SNORTED. I CACKLED. I applauded. Peak chaotic good energy.
But beneath the chaos is the softest, rawest, most beautifully human journey of figuring out who you are when love is both the lantern and the forest you’re lost in. Allie stumbling, getting back up, loving too hard, breaking, mending...ugh. UGH. My heart grew three sizes and then needed a nap.
And the ending? Let’s just say my soul whispered, “Okay… maybe the universe does know what it's doing.”
If you’ve ever doubted yourself, loved the wrong person, or hoped the right one would finally feel like HOME… this book will hug you from the inside out.
Quirky, heartfelt, messy, honest perfection. Five stars, easily. ✨💛📚
You'll smile, raise an eyebrow, and maybe even laugh out loud as you read The Man Who Feels Like Home. It's a humorous narrative. An excellently written book with a smart conclusion! The book has captivating, addicting style that shines brightly, making it electrically enticing!
Unforgettable, colourful, and utterly endearing describe The Man Who Feels Like Home. The characters in the smart and sincere narrative astonished me at every turn and made me laugh and cry. The relationship states that Allie has been in are really upsetting, and it was an interesting read. Allie is an admirable protagonist who brings some important themes to light.
I give this book a 4/5 rating and would absolutely suggest it to every reader. Roxana Rotaru is a fantastic author, and her prose is incisive and intellectual and digs into several profound elements.
I love the way the stories in this book made me feel. It’s not about building a nice home, it’s about who you share it with that makes it a good foundation. Loved this book!
Wonderfully written and beautifully executed. This book was a bit different to the books I would ordinarily read, however, I really enjoyed it. I even read this book within a day!
Thank you to Roxana M. Rotaru and BookSirens for allowing me to read this book as an ARC! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When I first began this book, I wasn’t fully sure if it was something I’d be interested in. But I did come to love this and enjoyed the journey that are character, Allie, takes us on. Through her personal life journey and some parts I found dramatic, that was probably just me. This was a completely different book from the ones I normally read but this was a great difference. But some parts didn’t interest me. I did enjoy how short and lighthearted this book was especially after most books out there end up having darker themes and all so when I read a lighthearted book like this. Then I try to take an interest. I haven’t truly been in a relationship but I have seen some healthy and unhealthy relationships. This book makes you reflect on what a truly good relationship with someone is like. One thing I did love was the quotes that were added to the book.
This is a short contemporary novella is all about love. Each chapter talks about Allie's different relationships she has experienced and includes her circle of friends love life. It touches on the reality of relationships and love just isn't enough, it's about compromise. And I completely agree, if you're not wanting to go home and you're easily distracted then it's not going to work. Going home to the one you love should be your comfort zone and looking forward to that part of your day. I loved all the characters and I've taken away a lot from this short story. If you love romances, spicy reads, friends to lovers and heartbreaking situations then pick this up ! I finished this in one day I absolutely loved it.
Finding real love is not as simple as it first appears to be. The journey frequently takes unexpected turns for us that we had not even anticipated. While some of them are heartbreaking, others can be humorous. 'The Man Who Feels Like Home' is a lovely piece of literature by Roxana M. Rotaru that captures the flavour of life in all of its components. Allie embarks on a singular trip in search of a man who feels like home in the fast-paced world of today when we struggle to just match our frequencies. The experience was brought to life with real emotions and empathy because to the writer's distinctive storytelling. Her dating misadventures, which are hilarious to the point of making you laugh out loud, to her breakups with unfaithful boyfriends, which make you stop and think, are all expertly conveyed. Even the lives of Allie's pals are fascinating. This book takes the readers on a lovely journey that has the potential to stay in our minds for a while.
Allie's secure life and ideal partnership at the beginning of the story give us confidence that the journey will have a happy conclusion. I was astounded right away by how different it is from the typical manner of writing. After that, the narrative becomes more conversational, and I start to identify with Allie better. My interest is piqued by her humorous but emotional struggles in every situation. As the ride continued, I laughed, tensed, and was happy. The character sketches of Allie and her companions were equally impressive. It would be fascinating to learn about their feelings and emotions. I thought the way the plot was built was excellent. It was amazing to see her development and discovery as she went on this passionate quest. I wish to urge every reader of rom-coms to pick up this book.
Everyone's desire is to embark on a passionate quest to find the ideal partner who makes them feel at home. It is difficult to endure the ups and downs necessary to reach that commitment. Not everyone finds their soul partner. However, everyone hopes to own one. The lucky Allie in Roxana M. Rotaru's novel 'The Man Who Feels Like Home' has the love of her life in her secure life. But the real story is how she found her true love. The humorous occurrences of bad dates or the emotional struggles of choosing the incorrect guy come and go in such a realistic way. Readers can almost feel their own lives in their bones when Allie talks about her dating blunders. The lives of Allie and her friends are equally realistic and typical. I have too many emotional ties to the characters. My spirit was buzzing with their emotions and passions.
I adored the original storytelling structure the author used to tell us the entire tale. Allie is first seen with her dependable partner and a flawless life, which offers us comfort during the following upheavals. After these breakups, she will undoubtedly have a fantastic relationship, we are confident. The story is presented in simple but beautiful words. I became interested as soon as I turned the first page. Anyone can develop a connection with the characters since they are all so expertly drawn. Each character is believable, and language and behaviour are all skillfully crafted. I experience the situations as though they were my own. The author has a remarkable talent for incorporating emotions into commonplace events. I liked the book and will suggest it to my friends who like romantic novels.
I love to read a good passionate love story, and if that has a wonderful comedy vibe in it then nothing can beat it. 'The Man Who Feels Like Home' by Roxana M. Rotaru is one of those rare treats that have every ingredient to be my favourite read. In the beginning we see, Allie has an perfect relationship with perfect life. Then the narrator in conventional tone shares us the details of her previous love lives and her journey to her love of life. Those funny dates where awkward things are involved or emotional break ups where something gone wrong all comes so neatly in the writing of the author. I loved how the inner conflicts came alive so perfectly in all those events. After some time Allie doesn't remain a character only but a friend of flesh and blood who is going through a lot and I feel all those feelings so dearly. Not only Allie, the lives of her friends become so vivid in this fantastic novel.
I enjoyed how the author presented the characters in realistic way. Their feelings and emotions came alive with the finely tuned plotline. Not for a single moment I felt boring in this whole story telling. The conversational approach of the narrative is the best thing happened for this particular story, I think as it connected my feelings with the characters. I feel for their every actions and consequences. I laughed in the funny moments and got serious in the dramatic ones. Allie and her journey bemused me and enriched me with experiences of life. The language of the book is simple but engrossing. I never felt any of the character or their actions unrealistic. Actually I loved the unique writing in this romcom book and would recommend this one to every romance reader.
The passionate journey to get that perfect person who feels like home is everyone's dream. The ups and downs to reach that commitment isn't easy to endure. Not everyone gets a soulmate too. But we all dream to have one. Allie in 'The Man Who Feels Like Home' by Roxana M. Rotaru is a lucky woman who have love of her life in her stable life. But how she got her true love is actually the story. The funny incidents of date gone wrong or emotional turmoils in finding wrong guy all comes and goes in so realistic way. Allie's chatting about her dating mishaps feels so familiar to readers as if these are incidents from their own life. Not only Allie but her friends' lives too are so realistic and common. I felt too much connection with the characters. Their feelings and passions were revibrating in my soul.
Usually I don't come across to many books where I feel so connected with the actions of the characters. 'The Man Who Feels Like Home' made me laugh, thrill and serious with the plot advancement. The conversational narrative style attached me with the characters in such a way that their every action and feelings seemed to be mine. Allie's dramatic journey and her encounters with dates reminded me about my own endeavours. I appreciate the writing style of the author that has so fantastic ability to transport the reader. The characters were so so realistic as if I know them all personally. The emotions and feelings were not a single bit out of the track. I completed the full book in just one day and it was a fantastic experience. I would recommend this one to my friends who loves romance.
We all know it's difficult to discover the ideal relationship, and to achieve it, we must all overcome a number of challenges, some of which can be amusing, serious, or emotional. The ups and downs of the search for the ideal soul mate are beautifully depicted by Roxana M. Rotaru in her book "The man Who Feels Like Home," which deals with real emotions. Allie's experiences in this tale of love and romance are both dramatic and painfully honest. The beginning of the novel reassures us that Allie now has a stable life because she has a lovely partner. Allie writes about her quest to find the ideal mate as the book progresses in a conversational style. Readers learn about Allie's dating blunders, shady relationships, ice cream binges, breakups, and other steps on the way to finding true love through humorous details.
I like the author's genuine portrayal of the characters. The carefully crafted plotline brought their emotions and feelings to life. I never once felt bored while reading this entire story. I believe that the narrative's conversational style is best for this particular story because it helped me feel a connection to the characters. I am sorry for all of their decisions and results. In the humorous and emotional times, I both laughed and became solemn. I found Allie's story amusing and filled with life lessons from her. The book's language is straightforward but captivating. It worked for me because I never found any of the characters or their actions to be implausible. Actually, I adored the distinct writing in this romcom book and would suggest it to any reader who like romance.
Nothing beats a good, fervent love tale, especially if it also has a superb sense of humour. One of those rare pleasures, "The Man Who Feels Like Home" by Roxana M. Rotaru, has all the traits of becoming my favourite book. Allie appears to have a beautiful relationship and a perfect life at first. The narrator then tells us in a traditional tone about her previous love affairs and her path to finding her true love. The author's work captures those amusing dates with awkward situations or the painful breakups where something went wrong so skillfully. I like how effectively the incidents captured the internal struggles. After a while, Allie ceases to be just a character and becomes a real buddy who is going through a lot. I genuinely feel all of those emotions for Allie. In this amazing book, the lives of Allie's friends also come to life.
I adore how the tone of the novel is depicted. The way the author began the story was very different from the typical twist and shock structure. It's really astounding how the happenings are described to readers in a casual manner. The reader can relate to the occurrences, whether they are humorous, dramatic, or emotional. Allie's character sketch is just fantastic. She has wonderful friends. Readers connect with their emotions and feelings. I have a great time reading the book since their journey feels so believable and authentic. Allie's journey towards finding her true love is hilarious, intelligent, and direct all at once. I will suggest this book to every romance reader.
Allie has always believed that when you discover "the one," everything else falls into place. In the end, love will always find a way. But she soon realises that simply loving someone isn't enough in order to make a relationship work. And, at times, loving someone excessively can both fire and extinguish a relationship. Her journey of self-discovery began with her first high school crush and continues now with the man she calls her home. Allie reaches her breaking point when she body slams her ex-boyfriend's partner at a wedding, a video of which goes viral on TikTok. She eventually threads her way through a series of romances, igniting every emotion and uncertainty, rendering her thinking she is broken and unwilling to commit to anybody.
Personally I think this book guides the readers through different stages of relationship where sometimes love isn't always enough. A lot of effort and patience and lots of other aspects are needed to establish a proper relationship. The different povs also serves as an anecdote on the relationships occured towards the people whom are close to Allie herself. Sometimes things went south, and can never be remedied. But there are also times where broken things can be mended. So, this book sort of give hope to those who are looking for 'the one'. I wouldn't say this book is all you need but it can be a start.

I loved the unique narrative frame with which the author presented the whole story to us. Love is supposed to be all butterflies and fairy tales, right? WRONG. *The Man Who Feels Like Home* follows Allie, who spends years trying to find "the one"—only to realize that love isn’t just about who you’re with, but who you are.
And let’s be real, that’s a lesson most of us learn the hard way. From first crushes to full-blown heartbreaks, Allie’s love life is basically a reality show (one that includes body-slamming her ex’s date at a wedding and going viral—legend behavior, honestly).
Allie is all of us —falling too hard, questioning everything, and wondering if she’s just doomed to be single forever. She believes love will magically make life fall into place, but instead, it just keeps falling apart. Cue the self-doubt, emotional spirals, and some truly questionable dating choices. (Been there, done that, got the therapy bill)
What makes this book so good? It’s painfully real. Roxana nails the messiness of modern love—the highs, the heartbreaks, and the absolute chaos of figuring yourself out along the way. Allie’s journey isn’t just about finding the perfect guy; it’s about learning that love isn’t supposed to fix you. (Yes, this is your sign to stop romanticizing that emotionally unavailable situationship. 🚩)
And then there’s him. The *maybe-finally-the-one* who makes her question everything. Is he her home? Or just another life lesson in a cute package? No spoilers, but buckle up — this ride has twists.
Allie, our lively heroine, takes readers along on her personal journey to love, commitment and personal fulfilment. Allie’s experiences are so honest and so dramatic at the same time, and readers will find themselves rooting for her right from the straight.
The writing style is conversational, creating the feeling that our friend Allie is just chatting about her dating mishaps. Some of her romantic experiences felt familiar, like when she’s dating a man who’s clearly not treating her well or someone who’s clearly cheating, and she keep hoping things will work out. Some of her experiences — like getting a little too drunk and attacking her ex’s new girlfriend at a bouquet toss — are unique to just Allie.
I particularly liked the framing story in The Man Who Feels Like Home. The book opens with Allie, comfortable, confident and in love with her partner. This lets readers know that her romantic and discovery journey will have a wonderful resolution. I think in romantic comedy stories, we readers expect the usual genre ending, so I often like any attempt as suspense or questions feels fake. Here, I was told from the very start that all of these first dates, break ups, ice-cream binges, travels, dating app mishaps, and so forth were just steps on Allie’s path to fulfillment. It’s a completely different vibe, and really worked for me.
I recently read Roxana M. Rotaru's book, "The Man Who Feels Like Home," in which she describes the delight of the search for a lasting relationship. It engages the reader in a frank manner, which is exceptional since it makes me personally feel more connected to the narrator. The facts of a failed date to cheated-on boyfriends are presented in a humorous but thought-provoking manner. The situations were funny but tragic. Several times while reading, I found myself laughing aloud. The magic lies in the author's ability to make Allie's journey both original and realistic.
Rarely do I read stories where I identify so strongly with the characters' decisions. The plot development in "The Man Who Feels Like Home" made me laugh, thrill, and serious. My connection to the characters was established through the conversational narrative approach, making every decision and emotion they experienced seem like mine. The dramatic journey Allie took and the dates she had made me think about my own ambitions. I admire the author's writing style since it can really take the reader somewhere else. The characters were incredibly vivid; I felt as though I knew each one intimately. The feelings and emotions were completely in line with one another. It was a wonderful experience for me to finish the entire book in a single sitting.
I usually read angsty romances with a lot of steam, or heavy on the insta-love, but this book was such a breath of fresh air in a market that is saturated with novels that all read the same and have the same message. The “love conquers all” and that the “perfect” relationship exists if you just find the right person without any work going into it.
I feel like I needed - personally - to read this story myself. It made me really look at my life, and what I want, and realize it’s not as simple as finding the right person and that, maybe, my problem was thinking that the right person exists where I don’t have to try, or furnish my house/put any work into it because it’ll simply be perfect. This book made me think, so not only was it unique and engaging, but it also touched my heart.
I love how many different shelters (relationships) you can see and how they effected Allie. And I love the comparisons between shelters and love. It honestly a book I recommend everyone. I'm going to pass along my copy after I write my own journey in the blank spots in the back to pass on to someone else when I find my own home!!
It's a perfect easy read on a Sunday morning! 💕 It's a collection of contemporary romance short stories that reads as a cohesive whole, centered around a protagonist named Allie, who likens relationships to different kinds of houses. There's even a bookmark that goes with the book which has a questionnaire to help you "imagine your dream house." It's really cool and unique!
My fave is Homeless, followed by Tent, which Roxana's revealed to be based on a real person 🥺 Sharing Flat touched on open relationships, while I found Holiday House had great points! I think there's a story for everyone, though some might hit a little too close to home too 🙊
It was also my first time to annotate a book, even had to borrow my husband's highlighter because I don't have one 😂 but it was really fun! I know there are naysayers and people who'd see this as me destroying a book, but hey, even one of the stories had something about an annotated book being passed around, so I might, in fact, do just that! 🤪
If you're in the mood for romance and wanting something you can read in one sitting, you might want to check this out! ❤️
THE MAN WHO FEELS LIKE HOME is meticulously pieced together and utterly thought through, Roxana Rotaru's stories emerge slowly but they have a perfection of slow-growing crystal. The book blends absorbing storytelling with provoking issues present in our time. The plots manage to seduce you with its incredible characters and fabulous themes that are elaborated in a very gripping performance, also the compelling and lyrical prose of Roxana makes this book even more engaging and intriguing. . Allie is a compulsive character that I found it very interesting, this is an epic romance readers that will immerse themselves in and never want to leave, with beautifully written prose and brilliantly crafted plots. There is a vast amount of story building and character development. . This book shines with a brutal, minimalist elegance, every sentence is lyrically intriguing and very original. The book is crafted in a compelling manner and the plot unfolds a rollercoaster of emotions that readers will love!
Cât privește The man who feels like home, nu mă pot pronunța nici negativ, nici pozitiv.
This book felt like a free spirited reflection based on the ideal that love is home, not a tangible item, the ideal place to be. The protagonist talks heavily about this analogy of love being your true place. It's nice to not have to think hard when reading a story, and this is exactly what it was like for me. "I know I am a better me because of you, and that’s why I will always support you to achieve all your dreams.” Love can't be the backbone of everything, there must be a full circling back to proper whole hearted feelings. Allie has been through a lot, as all of us have, she's made mistakes and these have spiraled. The stories of her friends and lessons learned contained moments of humour, lots of flawed moments and characters. The idea of your shelter being a kind of relationship was a quirky idea, it worked in this small novella. I liked the quasi memoir feel I seemed to gravitate to. With thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this debut.
