Heartbreak Hockey #2

Ice Dance Hockey

Rate this book
DRAMA. HOCKEY. ROMANCE. BATTLES ON AND OFF THE ICE.

“I thought this was going to be the story about how I lost Jack, but it’s not. It’s the story about how I found my way to you.”

Rhett
I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life and I can only hope it’s not too late for me to redeem myself. All my future plans included building a life with Jack, but now he’s playing house with some second-rate hockey coach he thinks he’s in love with.

I want him back, and when my father’s misguided effort backfires, the perfect solution skates right into my life.

Logan
When no one cared about me, my half-brother, Mercy, took me in, loving me as if we’d been siblings all our lives instead of just a couple of short weeks. He’s sunshine. I want to stay close to him, but I know it’s only a matter of time before I become a stain on his perfect life.

Speaking of sunshine, it would be a lot better for me if a certain ray of sunshine, Jack Leslie, were out of the picture. When the hockey God himself, Rhett, makes me a proposition, I know I can’t refuse, even if it means I’m going to hell for it.

Ice Dance Hockey is a fake boyfriend book, with lots of catastrophes, some angst, and much hijinks. We get to peek in on the lives of Jack and Mercy as Rhett and Logan stumble their way into a love they never knew could exist. Oh, and of course, it contains the caretaking dynamic Mock (S. Legend and Canadian) is known best for. It’s a verified member of the Hot Pink Peaches Club.

Some of you know her as Mock, others as S. Legend, or Miss S. She welcomes all names but will often go by Mock, a name given to her by her readers.
Mock is an ambitious creative, weaving the most precious aspects of her soul into stories. She is an architect, building fascinating worlds, designed from inquiry, rooted in worldly wonderings. It’s an intuitive process where she is the scribe, the translator, the conduit.
It helped that storytelling was the language spoken at home. One simply didn’t say, “We have an ant infestation,” in Mock’s family it was, “I was on my way to the living room, when a peculiar ant crossed my path. I looked to my right, a suspicious line of them marched toward the pantry. In that moment I knew; my kitchen was under siege.” The natural flow of conversation always took this form.
And so.
When Mock wrote her first novel, she didn’t plan it chapter by chapter, there was no outline, no “plotting” to speak of. But she didn’t “pants” it either, she didn’t make it up as she went along. She knew how the story felt, where it curved in places and hollowed in others; she knew the destination it rushed toward. Instead of orchestrating, she let the world inspire her, and held space for the words to come, trusting the characters knew what they were doing. All she had to do was tell a story, as she always had done; like breathing.
This is her peace, her healing and solace: Gifts better shared.
Mock’s works are the comfort you seek when you need to come home. Her unique writing style will take you, wayfaring reader, to unexpected destinations.
She always says, “I’m not in the business of making up stories, I couldn’t if I tired. I’m lucky enough to get picked to share someone else’s story when I ask a question to the universe. Someone answers; I write it down.”

This was a five star book for me right up until the kidnapping. Then I was just over it and angry and I refuse to give anything higher than four stars because of it!

Again this series is completely batshit crazy, OTT and everyone is absolutely ridiculous, BUT I loved Rhett and Logan as a couple.

What I particularly like is the way people's sexuality just IS. No one has to declare themselves, not being straight is the norm - it's very refreshing. If only real life was like that instead of all the bigots and their loud mouth opinions.

So much happens in this story and this is a really long book for what it is - to the point that I was certain I was almost done reading then I checked the percentage read and it was only 40% 😂 No complaints because I loved almost every second of this book, but the whole kidnap plot really ruined the story for me so I'd like to pretend the last 10-15% never happened.

If you're a fan of soap opera level dramatics and caveman possessiveness all with a large dose of knife shoes this is definitely the book for you. This series is such a fun read even though it is insane! Can't wait for Mitch and Casey's book next.

3.5 stars. Would have been 4.5 stars probably if it wasn't for the stuff with Rhett's father jumping the shark.

Logan is 19 years old and an aspiring Olympic ice dancer. Logan is an antisocial black cat / Gremlin of a character. He's been raised by his mother who is a mess. She has never been able to really take care of him like she should have, he's always had to be responsible. She has a gambling addiction and she gambled away the money that he needed for his housing expenses that his scholarship doesn't cover. The mother dumps him on Logan's older brother Mercy, who Logan didn't even know existed. Mercy has many siblings that he's responsible for.

Through Mercy, Logan meets Rhett. Rhett is 25 and a NHL player. He is the ex boyfriend of Mercy's boyfriend Jack. He wants Jack back. But Rhett's father husband trying to manipulate Jack and hold back Jack's career, because he wants to help Rhett marry Jack. As much as Rhett wants Jack, he can't let his dad wreck Jack's career in hockey, so he decides to fake date Logan to take the heat off of Jack. Logan agrees to it because he needs money.

Logan and Rhett spend a lot of time together trying to make a show of their relationship. And it quickly becomes clear that they're both attracted to each other. And Rhett slowly starts to fall for Logan and realize his feelings for Jack aren't what he thought they were. Rhett's father likes Jack better than Logan, and is the main obstacle preventing Logan and Rhett from being together.

I like this book quite a bit until the final conflict with Maxwell, Rhett's father. I love a black cat, feisty and bratty character and Logan was that. And he was strong, not willing to put up with any s*** from Rhett. I liked the dynamic between Rhett and Logan. They felt very intensely for each other and they were very jealous and possessive of each other. I'm a Canadian and I loved the universal Canadian experiences that were represented here. Like the street hockey game and yelling car. And I've been to Vancouver and I'm close to people in Vancouver so I very much understand the constant rain situation.

This was a relatively slow burn book. They didn't really have sex until 69% through though there was some fooling around.

A small thing that I didn't like was how Rhett burns through spending money. I just can't empathize with that and it always just seems so awkward, not smart, and a weird power balance when one person is constantly throwing money willy-nilly.

SPOILER... A big thing that I didn't like, that almost spoiled my enjoyment of the book was the whole evil Maxwell plot at the end. It really jumped the shark. It impacted my rating, but I held myself back from penalizing the book too much over it. I know he's always been interfering, but this is over the top villain shit. Maxwell is the mayor and he's very wealthy and smart presumably. His behavior his behavior was so dumb and bad that he should have landed in jail. And it made me think less of Rhett too... Rhett is a grown ass man who was extremely wealthy and a keen business brain, not just wealthy because of his father. That he was at his father's mercy like this hurt my respect for Rhett's character. I wasn't happy with how they left things with Rhett's father at the very end. He wasn't punished. He sent a lame ass apology and that was it. What he did really isn't something you can apologize for. He abducted Rhett and Jack. He forced Rhett into rehab, faking Rhett having a substance abuse problem, so that he could blackmail him and get a conservatorship over him for substance abuse if he needed to control him. He took away their free will and tried to force them to marry in a big public way. Maxwell belongs in jail. If this was a dark romance, he would have been offed.

Some notable moments:

Rhett's jealousy of Scott was so funny. "“Hey, Logan. Oh, Rhett. Didn’t know you’d be here, too.” “Neither did I,” I mutter under my breath. “That, okay?” Scott looks between us. Rhett still has my hand firmly in his and I’m not ready to let go either, if I’m honest. I’m still pissed at him, but he’s my misbehaved gorilla and everyone else can back right off. Whatever Scott sees doesn’t bother him at all. “This’ll be good. Let me get my coffee and prepare for the inquisition.”"

Omg!! I'm a Canadian woman, and this is a fucking universal Canadian experience. Who hasn't played street hockey with the orange ball and yelled car?! "“Car!” Casey lifts his net from the pavement as his twin brother Stacey Alderchuck does the same. Playing hockey in the middle of the street isn’t sane or safe, yet it’s somehow not illegal. The game stops. The nets are moved. We wait until the car passes. “Game on!”"

I love a gremlin that bites, as long as I'm not their victim. Cute kiddo! "Inside, Rhett’s at the kitchen table with Theo at his leg under the table looking for the best place to bite. “Theodore,” Rhett says with the kind of voice that only Rhett can. It has Theo freezing mid-attack. “I wasn’t gonna bite yah.” “Yes, you were.”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

The second book in S. Legend’s hockey series was another hit for me 🙌

This is definitely OTT, ridiculous, but oh, so fun. They aren't meant to be taken seriously. I love being in this world with these characters - it feels like a true escape.

I love the Meyer clan (including sunshine boy Jack) and was here for all the family shenanigans. I loved how they enveloped not only Logan, but also Rhett into the family (some more reluctantly than others haha) and loved on them hard. Mercy, oh this man, I love how fiercely he loves and he is the perfect head of the family and I’m so glad Logan found his way to his big brother.

These books feel like a comfort read even the first time through so I can’t wait for actual re-reads one day.

Now I’ll just sit here anxiously awaiting Casey & Mitch’s book. Oooof they are going to be interesting 👀

"I thought this was going to be the story about how I lost Jack, it’s not, it’s the story about how I found my way to you."

I am loving every page of S. Legend's Heartbreak Hockey series and whilst they can be read as standalones, I would highly recommend that you read them in order for a better understanding of the overarching story, starting with Heartbreak Hockey.

Ice Dance Hockey continues with Rhett and Logan's story (remember Rhett pining after Jack in book 1? And Logan being introduced as Mercy's ice-dancing, fiery diva of a brother?!) and it is a gorgeously swoony, funny, slow burn, steamy pot of sunshine!

"His tongue in my mouth is still novelty enough to send a burst of tingles straight to my aching dick. He tries to pull me closer, but I’m already as close as I can be. My fingernails bite into his neck, sprouting several points of slippery wetness. He flinches, but the violence encourages him, and he mauls my mouth with a string of kisses. I let one hand fist his shirt, and we inhale in sync before finally breaking apart. What the … what the hell was that?"

You will love Ice Dance Hockey if you're all about:

❣️MM sports romance
❣️Opposites attract
❣️Fake dating
❣️Found family
❣️All the swoon
❣️Slow burn
❣️All the spice (eventually!)
❣️HEA

Love, love, love!

Czy poznanie Logana go zmienia? Oczywiście, bo w końcu nie byłoby happy endu 😜 Zaborczy, opiekuńczy dupek, który jakoś tam daje się polubić - w miarę, choć bez przesady 😉

I do ok. 80% byłam w stanie dać spokojnie cztery gwiazdki.

P.S. Okładki do tej serii są okropne 👀

Dumpster fire. From the cover to the writing, the plot and the characters... Toxic ( and suffocating like Tom Ford parfume. Repeated 1000 times, to show us the MC is bougie. Bougie dumpster fire). Is this ... Supposed to be funny? Sexy? Rhett is...I have no words. You can take a mafia Don drug-selling serial killer who keeps his slave boy in the basement and calls him "darling dear" and make a less toxic character. Really. "I must not be reactionary, I must show support (to my darling dear). That's why I will cancel the person who criticized my darling dear", said I in my uber-masculine voice. This is the least offensive example.
And could the words "fuzzy head" and "hockey hair" be repeated more often? Especially in the combination "my hockey hair"? Yes, the book is written in the first person, double POV. And don't get me started on giving alcohol to the person with the "disordered eating" who has never had a drink before, on a date, and getting them drunk. Superior boyfriend. My ass. The trigger warnings of this book are incorrect. Heartbreak hockey, indeed.

Following on from Heartbreak Hockey, Rhett is still pining for Jack, and would do just about anything to get him back. Enter Logan: Jack's younger, bratty (almost) brother in law, who has his own agenda for breaking Jack and Mercy up. Together, they devise a fake dating scheme, which of course becomes more real than they bargained for.

As with the first book, I had such a fun time reading this. S. Legend has a unique way of writing that feels both heartfelt and hilarious at the same time, and I love the world that she has created with this series. Revisiting the Meyer brood never gets old, especially now that they have an extra member in their ranks.

Logan Wescott/Meyer completely stole my heart in this book. He's a bratty little thing with a soft centre, and a love cup that is just begging to be filled. His vulnerability spoke to me, and seeing him find a place both with Rhett and the Meyers warmed my soul. If I could adopt that beautiful scorpion myself, I totally would. He deserves the world <3

Rhett was the villain in Jack's story, but this time he completely won me over. Although he's stuck up and more than bit full of himself at times, he's total simp for Lo and would lay the world at his feet. I loved their banter together, and their relationship dynamic was on point. I could probably read an entire book of RhettLo just hanging out and still have a great time.

However, I feel like the story lost it's momentum in the last 20% or so, and there was a plot line thrown in at the end which felt out of place, and didn't make sense to me. It could have done with being a little bit shorter IMO, but it was still great.

Overall, this was a really great book, and I probably enjoyed it even more than the first one. If you want something light and funny, but with just enough emotion to hurt and heal you at the same time, then you'll love this.

“Us against the world?” he says, holding out his pinky. I clasp it with my much larger one. “Us against the world.”

A MM sports romance that hooked me right from the start! It's witty, made me smile, tear-up, angry, anxious & swoony. All the feels are here 😍. What a nail-biting climax 😳 & the sweet HEA 🥰.
I absolutely loved Logan, even fell for Rhett. Meyer family for the win! Devoured my #ARC in 12 hours, this kept me in its grip for 2 days.

“I thought this was going to be the story about how I lost Jack, it’s not, it’s the story about how I found my way to you.”

Logan is an ice-skater. He's prickly, snarky with childhood baggage but loves to feel belonging & protected, & is oddly fragile. He's part of the Meyer's, Mercy's his brother-dad.
Rhett is a star hockey player. He's arrogant, confident, very rich yet a gentleman, caring & oddly sweet. He's Jack's ex. I didn't have high regards for R, but he redeems himself. His dad tho....ASSHAT!

#RhettLo started with a very unique fake boyfriends situation 😆. Their size difference is big, the bickering's so fun! The jealousy & mutual possessive-ness is HOT. Omg, the pining! It was good to see R move on from J. R+L are romantic, & I liked the spice kicks up with their feelings, especially as Lo's a virgin.

There are angsty, mad situations. But it is RomCom-y, R+L are pretty expressive 😁. So many swoony, sweet moments too! I didn't hate R's dad much, UNTIL THAT CLIMAX. WTF!! I'm so angry at him for all the tears he caused my babies 💔😭🖕. & Scott ugh, sleazeball. Anyway, the ending & HEA's sweet 🥰.

I found few word-errors I hope were fixed later. Overall, I adored this book, so excited for the next one!

Just plain bad writing, info dump after info dump, mainly telling things and not showing them. You didn’t believe the characters feelings for each other or their families for a second. The plot itself was decent until the last couple chapters then it felt rushed, unbelievable, and honestly basic. It felt like reading a wattpad book written by a middle schooler or teenager. I wanted to DNF so bad but I was hoping the writing would improve after all of the character’s background had been trauma dumped on the reader. But it just kept getting worse, and the writing style and decisions more headache inducing.

I did NOT like either of these characters from the previous book. Rhett is a pompous narcissistic ass and Logan is a spoiled brat.

BUT they absolutely redemmed themselves here. Put these two together and man - watching the fireworks was fun! And 'Scorpion' is perhaps the best pet name ever. 😅

I loved watching them fall in love with each other within their own time frames. One thing I've noticed with this author is that the characters fall in love pretty early in the books, which is awesome, as you get to luxuriate and settle in to their relationship, albeit a bit flawed at that stage, but what you don't have to do is wade through unnecessary angst just for the sake of it.

This one made me actually cry. Mercy's devotion to his family rang even more true (continued from the first book) and was a pivotal element to Logan's growth and maturity in character.

But I didn't love the ending. The 'complication' felt contrived to just elongate the story. It felt unnecessary to their love and I felt it had too many holes to feel believable. The interactions (or lack thereof) from Mercy just didn't make sense.

I still love this author though, so very worthy of 4 stars.

The Meyers home is my comfort place.

This is a big book/series about family, hockey, love, and acceptance.

Logan and Rhett have a lot to make up for with their behavior in the beginning of this book, they are not likable, but they get their redemption and it is heartwarming and lovely.

Mercy and Rhett’s backgrounds may be different but they are cut from the exact same cloth and I loved all of their interactions.

Love MY Jack. (Yes, mine, sorry S. Legend, and Mercy.)

Can be read as standalone I guess but really you should read book one so you understand the world you are joining and the authors writing sty. I assume if you are reading this, you have read Heartbreak Hockey though so you know. You have to want to just live in the book for a while. You either get it or you don’t. If I needed reality in my fictional romance then I probably wouldn’t have loved the majority of the books I’ve loved.

Can’t wait for Casey and Mitch’s book and to be back with the fam!

WTF was that? Awful writing. The plot was ridiculous and just… wow. I hate myself for reading this. It had no business being 400+ pages. It could have been an email and even that would have been too much. Mock? Yeah definitely a mockery of actual writing.

Thank you Passion Author Service for gifting me this ARC ♥️
I really enjoyed it!

This is book 2 in a standalone series and my first book from this author!
For the first time when I receive a standalone Arc I wish I read the first book! I enjoyed this one a lot but I think it would have been even better if I knew Rhett story from the beginning.

Logan is really a scorpion but I loved his prickliness and all his insecurities. Merc is definitely the big brother he deserves and I loved their relationship!

Rhett’s father worst character ever! I hated him. Poor Eddy 😭

Theo was sweet 🥹

Just please change cover 😂

It's 3 am and I've just finished reading this book and I'll write the review while everything's still fresh, because wtf

Elkington shoots, he scores!
Elkington shoots, he scores!
Elkington shoots, he scores!

🟣 Fake boyfriends
🟢 Age gap - 6 years
🟠 Size difference
🔵 Heaps of side characters (you absolutely have to read the first installment before reading this book)
🟡 Mercy and Jack and very present - to my disappointment
🟣 Ridiculous plot, conflict and resolve, all of it
🌶️ Boring smut; t/b

It feels like this book's written for a teen audience, because that's the only group of readers that could be enthusiastic about this story, hands down.

The book is 500 pages long - about 200 too many and it really needlessly stretches out the story. I had a problem with the chemistry between the main characters, especially since it started out quite promising, but then it tanked, and tanked big time.

Rhett is Jack's ex and he's trying to win him back and in doing so he's getting a fake boyfriend in Mercy's half brother Logan, who's an ice skater.
Rhett has a powerful family behind him, they're mayor mafia billionaires it seems and it turns out his dad's a psycho closeted villain, but that doesn't get much epilogue, so the point is -- these guys fall for each other and not only was their love story badly and ridiculously told, the chemistry was kind of there at first, but then things got so complicated and tangled up, that the charm was lost, it wasn't working anymore, none of it. I couldn't see it.

The dialogues were the ones that killed it mostly, things like portraying Rhett, a character I very much liked - and still do - as a completely superficial asshole while he was anything but. He's a 25 year old hockey player who's rich, famous and model-like good looking, but the things this guy says aren't the ones of a young athlete, or a young guy in general.

"I dial my PA, Alan, hands- free, of course."

"My driver will pick us up— we won’t be taking an Uber like commoners— and I plan on making out with him in the backseat."

“Shall I buy you a pony? That’s sure to get Merc’s blood boiling.”

That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Next was "Rhett's love talk" -- can you imagine a 25 year old guy talking like that??

"Logan dear.”

"You’re mine, darling dear.”

“All yours, darling dear.”

“I’m already attached, Logan dear."

“You’re not getting away from me that easily, Logan dear,” he whispers into my ear.

Oh and of course the ridiculous scorpion thing

“Because you’re a little scorpion slut.”

My big, big problem in this book was Mercy. Again. Man, I hated the guy in the first installment and he sure as hell cemented that in this one.

I get that Logan didn't have a stellar family life and he wanted to feel he belonged with the Meyers, but Mercy was just taking it a step too far. I don't like the guy, at all. He was treating Logan like a 15 year old kid who has to ask permission for every fucking thing and if he does something wrong?

“Sure, I totally support your right to speak, but like everything in life, it’s got consequences. Yours is a toothbrush scrubbing Jack and Logan’s toilet. You too, Lo. Let’s go.”

We're talking about Logan, a 19 year old guy, who has a full scholarship to Columbia, not only that - he has a rich boyfriend and this guy's still asking permission for simple things! Is this family or fucking abuse? Even when Logan is married to Rhett, he doesn't move in with him, because Mercy said he had to stay in the dorms for one season. Ridiculous.

The final conflict, wow. Wow. Amazing.

The love story dragged out for hundreds of pages with nothing substantial and then we got hit with a pretty gruesome conflict of Rhett just suddenly being thrown into a mental hospital and forced to have a fake relationship with Jack again, threatened with a conservationship and hardly getting out of it alive! Yet Rhett talking like it's just a matter of time while he resolved it. 😄 A pretty big issue there with the psycho dad, but it's done with pretty quickly with Rhett's father suddenly coming around and leaving everyone alone.

Ah, yes, can't forget the smut. There were some good moments, but definitely not fantastic ones.

“Can’t keep quiet, eh? Love my dick in there, don’cha, Lo?”

Yeah, you can keep it. Pass.

I mean I've read 500 pages to get all this? I can't fucking believe it. What a waste of time. I can't take these books seriously at all.

Won't be reading any more of them.

Rhett • Logan

….

“I thought this was going to be the story about how I lost Jack, but it’s not. It’s the story about how I found my way to you.”

.

“Me and you against the world, baby.”

♾️.

….

No, no didn’t drop everything to start this. No, me? Who me? Of course I dropped everything. When a book makes me stutter a bit in the heart, makes me all soft inside and smile like a wild child, I know I came to the right place. But at this point everyone should know about my underlying love for Mock’s writing.

What can you expect? To feel like you’re watching your favorite romantic comedy drama series on tv from your teenhood years but spice it with a bit of rated r. I’m still smiling like a fool.

What do you get? He’s all mine. Such vulnerability. Delicious jealousy. Lo singing Metallica to a baby. A bit of shenanigans. Pick me up caveman style. Lace up my skates. The best of the best banter and so many wholesome feels.

So, I’ll start a little bit in reverse before I get to the main babes of this chapter in the series and begin with Mercy and my love for him. It’s never ending. He’s fierce, the way he loves and protects his family makes me want to be part of it. And Jack? That boy is pure heart. Both of them? Stronger than ever. Do we see them in this book? Do we ever.

Rhett. Named a villain after the first installment. But never by me. Why? I always believed he needed someone to challenge him. And is Logan a challenge. A beautifully soft centered but ferocious scorpion challenge. Do better. Be better. Challenge me. Complete me. Care for me.

RhettLo 💜. Our Scorpion Prince and His Gorilla Man. Once in a lifetime kind. The protectiveness? On point. The need of belonging and recognition being reciprocated? My heart. That is all I am going to give you because you should just free fall and start this series. The fundamentals of this world is found family. Mock makes me try to do better. To forgive and let go and concentrate on the present. Because how these characters forgive, try to acknowledge the other’s point of view, cheer you on and slowly let go but still stay true to themselves. My body is ready for what’s next. Top Dog. Brat Cat.

“Anyone ever tell you your chin is too cleft-y?” // “For the next little while, you’re dating an Elkington. Lots of perks with that name. Enjoy it, beautiful scorpion.” // “Never said you couldn’t do it; you just have to be willing to deal with the consequences.” // “I hold my pinky out for him.” // “His hands knew where to place themselves on my body for full domination.” // “And boy does he have me.” // “Not him.” // “Safety. It’s pure safety right here.” // “I didn’t expect my heart to stop.” // “…and it pushes me to be a better man.” // “It’s more claiming. Like, like … behave because you’re mine.” // “You’re going to bloom into something as savage and as resilient as you are on the ice…” // “I want to come home and see pieces of you.” // “Never stop driving me mad with insanity.” // “Feel like putting on a show, baby?” // “I know.” …

I loved this even more than the first book, it was fun, adorable and full of feels.

Logan craves attention. After a life of neglect, especially from his mother, being loved by Mercy and Rhett means everything to him. For the first time, he belongs. He finally has a family.

Rhett is intense and possessive but it works so perfectly for Logan. They click. Logan’s fiery brat energy constantly pushes Rhett’s buttons and the kinky bastard loves every second of it.

Rhett is still the rich asshole we met in book one but now that we know him better, it’s impossible not to love him. The pressure from his father shaped him into who he is but underneath it all, he’s a softie who’s completely whipped for his man.

I loved this book. The character growth was great, the story totally sucked me in and Logan has officially become one of my favourite brats. Yes, it’s dramatic and a little over-the-top, but that’s part of the charm. It’s fiction and it works.

#RhettLo forever 🫶🏻

Also, I really appreciate the queer-normative world that S.Legend created. It’s so refreshing, especially in a hockey romance.

I’m so ready for Casey and Sutter’s story now! I just know those two will drive me crazy.

UPDATE: Anytime I re-read a book it is automatically upgraded to 5 stars. And IDH kept niggling at my brain until I read it again. I’m SO GLAD I did! I read IDH first and while you technically can, you miss out on so many things by doing this! I felt like the Leo DiCaprio meme pointing at the tv when I found a connection or something made way more sense! I’m so much more excited for Breakneck Hockey (Book 3) now than I was before and I was HELLA EXCITED before! The snarky ones really get me going!

Also….I had 175 highlights. 175….like wtf. Compared to HBH which was 153. I just love my Hockey Gorilla and his Little Scorpion Slut 😏

⬇️ORIGINAL REVIEW⬇️

This is my first by S. Legend. I had every intention of reading Heartbreak Hockey prior to this but just didn’t have time, and while I didn’t feel totally lost I didn’t feel I was missing the point sometimes so I believe it absolutely would have enhanced my reading experience if I had been able to read them in the proper order.

Rhett is EXTREMELY full of himself at the beginning and willing to use his looks, status and money to get whatever he wants. Until Logan. I love that he uses the endearment ‘scorpion’ for him because he really is, they are such a beautiful but deadly creature.

Logan has some lingering trauma from his past and feels that Jake (from book 1) is a barrier to being able to staying in his brother Merc’s (also book 1) life. So once hockey gorilla Rhett proposes the fake date to try and break them up he is all on board. It backfires spectacularly.

These two are really good for each other. You can see their progression and growth separately and together throughout the story.

[Their progress as a couple was perfect, the added drama with the dad was OTT and you really have to suspend your belief a bit. It does bring in some additional plot lines for future books (Maxwell, Maverick), but it made me grumpy as a reader. Dude is a mayor, not a mafia boss. Unless this means something different in Canada? Idk.]

EDIT TO THE ABOVE: I left this in here BECAUSE I take the above back now that I know the governmental structure of Canada compared to America (where I’m from) and this plot line seems much more plausible. As the mayor he may be more comparable to a governor or senator but I was comparing him to a mayor of a town or at the most a large city like New York and couldn’t fathom how he had this much power, but after realizing his status is so much higher those puzzle pieces that weren’t fitting originally are looking extra snug. 🙂

Another hockey couple 🔥 well Ice skater and a hockey player to be precise.

I hated Rhett in the previous book and I’m happy I was able to discover him in here.
Starting with their evil plan, both Rhett and Logan are in huge denial and in a big need to have their own people. It was frustrating and so cute at the same time.
I love their evolution and little scorpion + gorilla was a good pair for me haha. I loved their banters, interest for each others and how they were the same and not the same at the same time.
Both of them are high on their trainings as athletes and both are vulnerable, I really love them.

The part where they start to fall for each other was just swoony. I really wish I could see the Huge Rhett doing figure skating haha.

The others thing I really like is that I was able to see Jack and Mercy again. I really enjoyed them in book 1 and I’m still over the heel for Jack 😍🥰. I might have a huge soft spot for him.

Overall I’m glad the author always push my limit to characters I hated 😂 she already did it with The Lost Brothers serie and Tristan serie. It’s like she is teaching me to be a better person. As I hate Rhett’s dad I won’t even be surprised if book 4 or 5 will be about him 🫣😂 if you know Mock you know ;)

Next is Casey and Mitch and that one might be fire 🔥 enemies to lovers? Sign me in ❤️

Size difference, enemies to lovers, fake dating, ex-boyfriends, scheming dads, hot hockey players…Mock did it all in this book!
First we have Logan, our petite ice dancer with a tongue sharper than his skates. He struggles with accepting love and care, and with trusting anyone. He’s got his reasons, but that doesn’t stop people from falling in love with him. Some can see past that prickly exterior, and see that he’s really in need of love and consistency. While he’s pushing himself on the ice, he meets Rhett: Jack’s ex, and arrogant hockey gorilla extraordinaire. When Rhett devises an episode a fake dating plan to get them both things they want, they both think it can’t go wrong…until they underestimate how impossible it is for them to fall for each other. When nefarious forces try to keep them apart, they have to decide if this is for real, because they’ll have to fight together to make this work.
-Snarky banter (let’s be honest, that’s mostly Lo 🤣)
-Chosen family (but very very meddling)
-Hockey Player/Ice Dancer
-Smexy times 🔥🔥
-Enemies to fake boyfriends to not boyfriends to lovers (some of their plans don’t quite work out 😆)

🏒 Hockey player x Ice Dance Skater
💃 Over confident Alpha bear x endearing brat
🏒 Found Family
💃 Size Difference

Ice Dance Hockey is book 2 in the Heartbreak Hockey series, and this time we get Rhett’s redemption story.

Let me preface this by confessing my sin… I did not read book 1… shocking, I know!
But when I signed up for this arc, I was sure that I would have had time to read book 1… but then “life” proved me wrong and got in the way! A very thoughtful friend was kind enough to summarize book 1 for me and it made the experience so much better. I will go back to book 1 soon! Don’t be a fool like me, and read them in order!

Back to the book! Rhett, who lost Jack to Mercy in the previous book, is set on getting him back, no matter the cost! His father, Vancouver’s mayor, has also the same goal and the means to make it happen.
One morning, entering the arena for an early practice, Rhett is surprised that someone already took his spot on the ice, and his time’s slot.
On the ice is none other than Logan, who happens to be Merc’s 19 yo brother, and an ice dancer.
Rhett is mad that someone stole his practice’s slot, but is more surprised about Logan’s quick responses and lack of falling for his well known charm.
That gives him an idea, and proposes a deal to Logan that he can’t refuse…
“I thought this was going to be the story about how I lost Jack, it’s not, it’s the story about how I found my way to you.”

If you like : banter, drama, over the top alpha a**holes, brats, family shenanigans, dresses and lace, “hockey hair” (lol) and kids, this book is for you!
I wanted to strangle Rhett for half the book but I came to understand and appreciate him by the end. And I wanted to hug Logan for the main part of the book.
They found and completed each other, and their HEA was well earned.

~Ice Dance Hockey~Heartbreak Hockey Book 2~S. Legend~

~Duet Narration~Ty Dunslow & Walker Williams~

~Production~Blue Nose Audio~

"I thought this was going to be the story about how I lost Jack, but it's not. It's the story about how I found my way to you."

♡This book starts where Heartbreak Hockey left off. Rhett our OTT MMC is still obsessing over the man he lost & will do just about anything to get him back! Little does Rhett know but fate has a funny way of bringing soul mates together & neither one of these MMCs saw this relationship coming!

The duet narration for this audiobook was fantastic! Ty & Walker brought this story to life & captured every emotion between our MCs perfectly!

I loved how book 1 continued straight into book 2 and we still get to see a ton of Jack & Merc in this book as well. If you love MM hockey romances, banter that will have you crying because you laughed so hard, and a found family trope like no other you found it!♡

Amazing story!

Another amazing instalment in this fab series. Loved that Jack and Merc were so involved in this book. I would’ve really missed them otherwise.
This got so tense toward the end. Truly nail biting stuff. I had the best time reading this

Edited to add;

I don't even know if I can find the words to say how much I LOVED this audio!
I'm a huge fan of all the books in this series but they have somehow been elevated higher with the audio.
I have already said that Heartbreak Hockey was my favourite audiobook of all time but I think Ice Dance may have just stolen the top spot.
The voice of Rhett, wow! Holy ASMR Batman, I should not have been allowed to be in charge of a vehicle while listening to this. I don't think I closed my mouth the entire first chapter. I was in absolute awe the entire time. The vocal range of both of these voice actors was incredible. Voicing their own characters and the side characters in their chapters, I could barely tell it was the same person at times.
If you're a lover of audiobooks you'll definitely want to stick this in your ears. I've already listened twice and I'm sure there will be many more times to come.

I didn’t enjoy this book at all and I’m sad because the resume looked interesting, hockey plus figure skater… signe me up ! But sadly it wasn’t it.
Why do they pretend to fake date of everybody know about it 5 minutes after and they keep going with it.
And ok we get he has money but that can’t be your whole personality…
