Ephraim's worst nightmare is a Valentine's Day party for single people, yet he lets his friend Andrew convince him to attend anyway. The party shows some promising eye candy, at least, in the form of a bad boy that Ephraim knows would never think of glancing his way.

I really liked this one, but with as much as Jason and Ephraim had going on it needed to be longer! I would love to read more aout these two, Jason especially.
Unlike yesterday’s short, where I was quite content with the length and how it ended, both characters in this story had so much baggage, I definitely felt it could have benefitted from a longer format. That’s not to say it wasn’t interesting in its own right, however I was just starting to get interested in the characters when it stopped.
Ephraim is a bit socially backward. He doesn’t drink or do drugs or party, but his friend convinces him to come for a Valentine’s party that is only for singles. No sappy couples allowed. As soon as he arrives he sees bad-boy Jason who pushes all the right buttons, but Ephraim is a logical methodical guy. He knows that Jason wouldn’t be interested in him and besides, every time he turns around someone is threatening Jason not to hurt him, or warning him off Jason, saying how he’ll only get hurt. Wow, they just met, lighten up.
Eventually they do rather hook-up, and Jason is able to give his side of the story. He admits he’s been a bit of an ass in the past but he’s trying to change his life, even though the cards are rather stacked against him given his family’s issues and the old living up, or in this case down, to the expectations of others. Ephraim is willing to give it a chance and they spend the night on the couch (many people crash at the party), although when he wakes up alone, he figures Jason has run. However, Ephraim has a bit of an epiphany, that he doesn’t always have to plan, live in the moment for what is and let it go.
So the meeting of the two opposites, has a positive impact on both men, but then I wanted to see how they go forward. Jason’s family background and his own admitted poor behaviour would have been good fodder for more story as he struggles to truly change, along with Ephraim learning to loosen up, and not have to be so straight-laced and in control all the time. I thought Jason was maybe a bit forthcoming in his confession to Ephraim, who kept things a bit closer to his chest as you would expect an introvert like he would, but on the whole I liked both guys and wanted to see them try to mesh their lives.
I was also a bit confused as to what happened on the couch. He woke up and puts his clothes on, did they have some kind of sexual encounter on the couch? With other people sleeping around them? It mentions touching, but then that’s it. As with the other books I’ve read from this publisher, the sex is not “on page”, so I wasn’t quite sure what passed between them. It doesn’t really matter, but I had assumed nothing but cuddling and then his pants were off. LOL
So a nicely written story with two characters who I believe had more story to tell, but still a nice addition to the Valentine’s stories from this publisher.
This is part of the Kiss Me Quick Valentine bundle from Less Than Three. This short story tells of Ephraim, who had planned on spending Valentine’s Day in his apartment with reality TV and Chinese food. His friend Andrew has other plans for him, however, and insists Ephraim come to a singles party, which Ephraim reluctantly does. While there, he meets Jason, a tattooed muscle man, who is given several warnings by Andrew to not hurt Ephraim, he’s a good boy, don’t hurt him. I think here we are told that Ephraim is a good boy, more than we are shown that. His actions that follow do not say “good boy” to me. Jason is a bad boy, with a bad boy reputation that he admits he earned but also doesn’t come across that way.
It’s a fluffy story, with inconsistencies that took some of the sweet out of it for me, but a cute quick read.
I just realized that this was my second book by this author. This one I liked a lot more that the other book. It was a light, short scene of Ephraim and Jason meeting on Valentines Day. Both MC were distinct and came to life, even during these few pages. The whole mood of it was engaging. Yes, it was short but it was well-rounded and had a very nice, hopeful ending. I wouldn't mind reading more about these two.
I really liked this. A wallflower, Ephraim, uncharacteristically goes to a party and meets Jason, a player whose reputation preceeds him. After several partygoers warn Ephraim to stay away from Jason, and the host, Andrew, threatens Jason with violence should he ever hurt the timid Ephraim, the two proceed to hook-up anyway. Both willing to make the changes within themselves needed to make it work between them, they decide to follow their hearts, ignore the warnings and place trust in each other.
A heartwarming story that embraces the notion that it's never too late to become the person you wish to be.
well, I just feels that the story forces to many information all at once. I meant, one doesn't simply tell how fuck up his family to a guy he just met!
Anyway, it's just me trying to cleans up my shelve ^^
