Rick is a native Floridian and a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. He earned a B.A. in English which he put to use as a field officer for the Internal Revenue Service. Inspired and encouraged by his wife, he decided his degree might also be useful in writing books and in 2004 he began writing full-time.
Since then he has launched two critically acclaimed series: The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp, for young readers, and The Highly Effective Detective, for adults. Both books are set in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Rick lived for ten years before returning to Florida.
Talking with my 12-year-old daughter about movies, this one interested me. But I prefer to read the book.
When I was young, I feel like there weren't that many post-apocalyptic novels or shows. Why is that today there are so many?
This book deals with the fact that we are invaded by beings much more advanced than us, that to "clean" the earth of annoying "cockroaches" (us) make, up to the time of the book, five destructive waves.
The truth is I couldn't stop reading it, I'll read the next two that are the continuation, what will happen at the end?
Interesting topic: although technology is very advanced and they can know what we think, the human heart, love, emotions are more powerful than reason, that's why I think that in this world of "the fifth wave" humanity can survive.
