Art in Action 2 is the second and more advanced of two beautifully illustrated art activity books. Both books introduce children to artwork by major painters of different eras, while also encouraging boys and girls to stretch their imaginations and enjoy the unique experience of creating original artwork of their own. Each book presents 24 creative projects inspired by works from famous artists who include the Italian baroque master Caravaggio, James McNeill Whistler, Henri Matisse, and many others. An introduction to parents and teachers advises on how to use these books with children, and emphasizes that no prior knowledge of the subject is needed. Each project includes a reproduction of an artwork, background on the artist, the historical period, techniques employed, and directions for presenting the artwork to children as inspiration for them to create their own original art. The accomplished paintings shown for demonstration are intended as stimuli to get kids started crea
I realized after I read this book I was unconsciously comparing it to the projects I did and the art education I received in elementary school (Ms. Radcliff, you were awesome!) and it stood up. This book would be a good supplement to any child's education.
This book provides a good way to introduce paintings to children as well as projects based off the artworks. My biggest criticism is that some of the projects seem rather loosely tied to the original work of art. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, perhaps some of the artworks are less approachable for children than others. Nonetheless, interesting.
Every bit as excellent as Art in Action 1. Projects are intended to be for older students thank in book 1, but thankfully, more challenging projects don't mean that they require much more prep time. I can't wait to use this in class!
