Rajneesh (born Chandra Mohan Jain, 11 December 1931 – 19 January 1990) and latter rebranded as Osho was leader of the Rajneesh movement. During his lifetime he was viewed as a controversial new religious movement leader and mystic.

In the 1960s he traveled throughout India as a public speaker and was a vocal critic of socialism, Mahatma Gandhi, and Hindu religious orthodoxy.

Rajneesh emphasized the importance of meditation, mindfulness, love, celebration, courage, creativity and humor—qualities that he viewed as being suppressed by adherence to static belief systems, religious tradition and socialization.

In advocating a more open attitude to human sexuality he caused controversy in India during the late 1960s and became known as "the sex guru".

In 1970, Rajneesh spent time in Mumbai initiating followers known as "neo-sannyasins". During this period he expanded his spiritual teachings and commented extensively in discourses on the writings of religious traditions, mystics, and philosophers from around the world. In 1974 Rajneesh relocated to Pune, where an ashram was established and a variety of therapies, incorporating methods first developed by the Human Potential Movement, were offered to a growing Western following. By the late 1970s, the tension between the ruling Janata Party government of Morarji Desai and the movement led to a curbing of the ashram's development and a back taxes claim estimated at $5 million.

In 1981, the Rajneesh movement's efforts refocused on activities in the United States and Rajneesh relocated to a facility known as Rajneeshpuram in Wasco County, Oregon. Almost immediately the movement ran into conflict with county residents and the state government, and a succession of legal battles concerning the ashram's construction and continued development curtailed its success.

In 1985, in the wake of a series of serious crimes by his followers, including a mass food poisoning attack with Salmonella bacteria and an aborted assassination plot to murder U.S. Attorney Charles H. Turner, Rajneesh alleged that his personal secretary Ma Anand Sheela and her close supporters had been responsible. He was later deported from the United States in accordance with an Alford plea bargain.[

After his deportation, 21 countries denied him entry. He ultimately returned to India and a revived Pune ashram, where he died in 1990. Rajneesh's ashram, now known as OSHO International Meditation Resort and all associated intellectual property, is managed by the Zurich registered Osho International Foundation (formerly Rajneesh International Foundation). Rajneesh's teachings have had a notable impact on Western New Age thought, and their popularity has increased markedly since his death.

This course is for everyone who has looked inside and discovered a deep need to change the way they are living their lives. Living our lives according to our conditioned minds leaves us running around in circles, repeating patterns that keep us addicted, co-dependent, and fixed in negative behavior patterns. Finding the source of this conditioning and addressing our unconscious patterns is liberating, as it enables us to start living our lives in a new way: in tune with ourselves and the essential qualities we were born with. An authentic life of ease and fulfillment becomes possible when supported by meditation, our beings fall in harmony with what is happening around us.

"The rebel is in a state of tremendous love with freedom - total freedom, nothing less than that. Hence he has no saviour, no God's messenger, no messiah, no guide; he simply moves according to his own nature. He does not follow anybody, he does not imitate anybody. Certainly, he has chosen the most dangerous way of life, full of responsibility, but of tremendous joy and freedom."

One of the greatest books, I have read ever...
Makes one cognizant of chains/conditionings/conformances in day to day life which makes one lose the inherent bliss of life...
Osho calls for a rebellion...a rebellion with enlightenment, towards a greater humanity....
It is not a book to create a rebellion or a fire...
But a book to make one the fire itself...!!!!

This is one of his rather difficult books to understand. Osho talks about the rebel he has in his mind, not the way ordinary people think of rebels; but, instead, one who is a realized soul, and how shall he maneuver his life in this world; indeed, very different from how ordinary people live, and hence, a rebel. Such a person has to have a heart thinking differently. Recommended reading.

i like motivational (self-grow) literature. and when i decided to try osho it was a really good idea. rebel it's not really all about steps you have to take. it's more about his view and opinion about life. and he uses i'd say quite good arguments to stand by his opinions.

This book included a few gems invaluable for the seekers on the path to carry in their pockets for a certain while, and the audio discourses ended with beautiful, soulful, and origin music performed by and in love.

Osho is probably the most unorthodox guru that i've come across thus far. He has a different take (some may say outrageous take) on everything in life, from sex to vegetarianism, from marriage to parental support, from violence to freedom. He helps you look at things from not just outside the box but way beyond.

In this short book, he describes what he believes is the new rebel who is born out of love and can change the world. There's a lot of great advise given in this book regarding parenthood and the path of the new rebel but you may also likely end up chuckling or laughing at some of his points of views.

In the last chapter titled "Take Life As A Beautiful Joke" he writes, and I quote

"Harry,"asks his wife, "if we had a four minute nuclear warning, what would you do?"

"Make love to you." answered Harry.

"Yes," said his wife, "but what about the other three minutes?

You can easily just turn into any page of this book and come out with an understanding of what his point of view is as the chapters or discussions are short. I do warn that this reading in particular is all about the new rebel so if you are looking for advise on sex, parenthood, meditation, enlightenment, etc, you should look for other books of his that touch on such topics.

You can also read excerpts of many of his books in his free library @
