Beautiful photography capture these stunning landscapes. While I appreciated much of the information, the text breathes more pragmatism that spirit. The author mentions some ballads and poetry, but doesn't make the best use of them. I was also distracted by a really very small font size. I get it... most readers probably don't actually READ these picture books, but the text might be more engaging if it were a bit more accessible. I especially would have appreciated if the locations of photos were a little easier to see quickly.
A good book for an armchair tour of Ireland with many pictures that are, yes, spectacular. Like a knowledgable guide, the succinct narrative added context and insight, which I especially appreciated in the chapters on prehistoric sites, monasteries and abbeys, and fortresses and castles. The font size was a little small, though, for comfortable reading.
