Apocalypto #1-3

Apocalypto: Omnibus

Rate this book
Apocalypto, an epic science fiction/fantasy series. The earth's environmental systems fail, mutated species are on the rise, and eco-terrorists ignite global nuclear war. When the human race nearly destroys the planet, the gods intervene. This Omnibus Edition contains the following: Space Junque, Spiderwork, and Bleeder.

SPACE JUNQUE:
On the brink of a world-wide ecological cataclysm set off by the Oil Spill of 2010 and the Great Sea Level Rise of 2070, hydroponics agronomist Char Meadowlark tries to get off planet, but the Defenders of Gaia strike while she's at the airport. Shuttle pilot Jake Ardri might offer her only hope.

SPIDERWORK:
Her fate was to hold the world together. His destiny was to tear it apart.

Durga is chosen by the goddess to rule Red City, home base of the chalices who provide natural-born heirs to kings of the new world order. Khai, the scion of Luxor, falls hard for Durga, and he isn't afraid to show it. Khai offers Durga the love she never expected - but to accept him is to disobey the goddess.

BLEEDER (or FIREBIRD):
The King of Garrick wants to kill her.
The King of Allel wants to love her.
And shapeshifters stole her baby's soul!

A hundred years after sea-level rise and global nuclear war wiped out most of humanity, Mallory is a chalice, one of the world's rare fertile females. Chalices live under the protection of Red City, which contracts with the kings of the Concord Cities to provide natural-born heirs.

It's a pampered and easy life - until Mal is caught between King Garrick's lust for world domination and Asherah's desperate maneuvers for another god's attention.

As Mal's forbidden feelings for King Edmund grow too strong to deny, she discovers the truth of her past and - most terrifying of all - inevitability of her destiny.

Apocalypto The Omnibus Edition is a fantastic collection of first rate storytelling. The stories are set in a future dystopian world. LK Rigel does a wonderful job weaving together elements of mythology, science, and fantasy all while bringing amazing characters to life. Due to some sex and violence, I wouldn’t recommend for anyone under 18, but if you enjoy sci-fi, fantasy, and or dystopian adventure then you must read these stories. The writing at times reminds me a little of Philip Pullman, and Philip K Dick. Here is a better breakout of each story:

Space Junque is a fast paced adventure. I love this novella! What an awesome story. The mythology is great. The world building is even better. The characters are interesting. There is plenty of action...sexual and otherwise. Love the chemistry between Char and Jake. From the beginning to the end this story never lets up. I highly recommend this story!

Spiderwork is the second book in the Apocalypto Omnibus. LK is a master at pacing her stories. She gives great details all the while you’re being whisked on a wonderfully exciting adventure. The world building, story, and characters are all first class. I haven't enjoyed a series this much since I read Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials. I can't put these books down once I start them.

Firebird This entire Omnibus Edition is outstanding! The author wove another fantastic story. This book takes place about 100 years after the first 2 books, so most of the characters are next generation. This story explores the life and rituals of the chalices. Firebird is longer in length, but LK is so good at story telling that it flew by like a novella. I hope LK continues to write for this world. More Apocalypto please.

It started out interesting, got exciting even, and many of the elements introduced interested me. I could believe the mess humans made of the world, though what the Defenders of Gaia did made no sense (I was willing to suspend disbelief for a while).

Then our heroine met a god. Who is going to save humankind. WTF? Multiple gods in play here. A goddess who needs cupids to hold up her clothes. Things happen that make no sense because, of course, gods can do whatever the author needs them to do to get past the stuck points in the plot. No imagination. Too bad -- it started out so well. I got through the first book and a couple of percent into the second -- just can't finish it. Delete.

I loved these books! Yes, there are some flaws. I wish that Jake and Char were talked about more in book 3. But the concept of the story and the world-building is phenomenal. The characters are powerful and even if I don't think that their way of dealing with things is the way to go, I can appreciate the story. One other small thing, I wish Edmund's feelings for Mal were more developed. It almost seemed as though he was in love with the Empani Mal more than human Mal.

I am not finished reading this omnibus. But, you know? I still can't get into it and I have reached 66%. There are many good ideas brought up but I never could relate with the main characters or the story thread. It may just be me. Maybe you will like it.
