Electus Luca Ucathya has waited hundreds of years to find his anamchara, his soul mate. Rowan Connelly is not what he expected. For one, the man doesn't have a submissive bone in his body. Even worse, Rowan is a wolf, one of the most dangerous and hated enemies of a vampire. But giving Rowan up isn't an option.
Discovering that he is the mate of a vampire isn't so bad for Rowan, but the things required of him as the mate of the leader of a vampire tribe just might be more than he can handle.
When Rowan is kidnapped, not once but twice, Luca knows he has to do everything in his power to keep his mate safe, something that would be much easier if Rowan would accept his place as the mate of a vampire and behave. Instead, Rowan is drawing Luca into more trouble with every breath.

I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. What a totally funny, enjoyable, and adventurous read this turned out to be. Using the (supposedly) age-old enmity between werewolves and vampires as the core issue, Stormy Glenn takes one of each and mates them – to hilarious effect. Different from many stories where one or the other partner has to submit for the relationship to work, in this incarnation of things both of them actually end up submitting part of the time. Or being in charge. It’s not very clear, really – and I think that is a significant part of the charm of this book.
Rowan, the werewolf, must be one of the funniest, brattiest characters ever. Of course, he doesn’t see himself like that, and the interesting thing is that he is also courageous, fierce, and very strong. A few hidden abilities and talents also come in handy, and he managed to surprise and delight me with his shenanigans throughout the book. Far from submissive, he is prepared to present a certain “image” to keep up appearances for the sake of his vampire mate – or, well, he gives it his best try. The fact is that he doesn’t have a submissive bone in his body, so those attempts never last very long.
Luca may be a powerful vampire and the leader of a tribe of vampires, he may also have certain ideas about how his mate should behave, but once he finds Rowan, all of them fly out of the window. Luckily he is ready to compromise, but still, it takes a little time to figure it all out and the situations he has to deal with in the meantime, seen from his perspective, were hilarious. Punishing tribe members who hurt Rowan by letting them live (to face his wrath every single day of their lives) was one example that just turned the idea of “traditionally accepted leadership-by-intimidation skill”s totally on its head.
If you’re looking for a serious treatise of vampire/werewolf relationships or a “traditional” D/s relationship with paranormal overtones, this is not your book. If you’re looking to have some fun with a story that is more likely to make you laugh than bite your fingernails from the suspense, this may be exactly what you’re looking for. I really enjoyed the light-hearted approach with all the banter and the interplay between the main characters, and can recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor and a love of the paranormal.
#1- Just A Vampire: We learn a new and different approach to Vampires and Wolf shifters, and other shifters in the mix. Unique legends are dispelled. Rowan is a wolf shifter, lean muscled, blonde, green eyed, with guy liner and tight leather pants, waiting for his brother to come over. At the dance club, tall owner, and beautiful Luca, an Electus Vampire who owns the club, dances with his “mate,” his "anamchara, Rowan. Rowan just doesn’t know it yet. Rowan is a rare white wolf with no smell, and silver doesn’t affect him. He and Luca have a spectacular sexy night, a bite, and soon Rowan is moving in. Many things begin to happen, a traitor, action, violence, kidnapping gone badly, and much more. We see our couple work on their bond, and hear their pasts. Trust is tested, “love” is spoken. Enjoy !
Seriously?
One more cliché and I was leaving this unfinished. Seriously.
I don't know Rowan's exact age but I'm guessing 25 'cause he made some comment about being banished after his 25th birthday...and it shows. How the hell is suddenly okay for a 700 year old vampire to mate a kid barely out of his teens is beyond me but I'll bite. He's a werewolf so maybe he matures differently. I do wonder why all vamps seem to be doms all of a sudden tho. They started out monsters, then turned sparkly and now..they all seem to like being called master and chain people in their beds. Honestly? This is getting kinda weird. All alpha males seem to be carved from the same mold and apparently said mold is attuned to domineering idiots. The pathetic attempt of portraying the kid, Rowan, as an alpha too didn't work for me. It made me hope for something I had no chance of getting and it only frustrated me further. And, trust me, I was plenty frustrated before. How can you claim Rowan to be an alpha when all of his actions scream submissive? He was a spitfire sure but he always caved to Luca's demands. Only time he actually stood up to him was regarding Jackson. That's all. Other times he simply complained loudly and constantly but never did anything really. Add the whole destined to be together crap and it sucked. Makes me think that no matter these men's opinions they would always be stuck together. How romantic is that? Then again, of course, Rowan doesn't want leave either. He's suddenly in love with a guy he barely talks to. They do have sex tho. Multiple times. That makes it alright. I'm not even commenting the HEA. I don't think it's worth it. And I am so not reading Everson's story with Carlton!

Rowan has a fun loving, take charge personality his domineering mate, Luca, cannot handle. Vampires are supposed to be the alphas in their relationships, especially the electus (leader) of a large vampire tribe. So why can’t Luca seem to get his hands on the very unsubmissive Rowan? One reason may because Rowan is a wolf shifter who has a simple enjoyment of life like no other.
The author really did an excellent job in creating Rowan. He's a character I found refreshing and exciting. I couldn't wait to see what he was going to do next. I even found myself with a broad smile on my face whenever I started a new chapter because I was full of anticipation wondering what he would get into. His larger than life personality truly made this story entertaining.
While Rowan’s antics kept me entertained, I was equally amused by Luca’s feeble attempt to contain his mate. From the very beginning, Luca knew Rowan would be like no other mate a vampire has had. This may have scared him, but he quickly began to accept Rowan for who he was. This really showed me Luca’s true character. He was able to see Rowan for who he really was unlike so many others of his kind.
The relationship development in this story was another interesting aspect. I really enjoyed watching this unlikely pair learn to accept and care for one another. You can see how infectious their feelings truly were. In fact, what inspired me the most was seeing growth among some of the supporting characters, not just the main protagonists. It was spurred by their realization that Luca and Rowan truly were a perfect pair. This growth is one of the details that helped to set this author apart from your typical paranormal erotica author.
While many vampire and shifter stories are on the market, none are quite like Just A Vampire. This is not the first story I've read by this author and this story proved to me why I continue to come back. Her unique writing skills, great characterization, and dynamic plot lines always leave me wanting more.
It was an okay book which had a left a lot of questions unanswered.
Mystery#1Rowan Connelly is a mystery throughout the book. I actually expected him to say that one of his great great grandfathers was Vamp or something because he kept saying stuff like he has additional senses or powers due to his family trait or genetic makeup. he can sense if someone is lying and gets headaches..then Why was he having headaches at the beginning of the story?
Mystery#2: Carlton's obsession with Rowan.
Mystery#3:Rowan is kidnapped by another Vampire tribe but he reduces the clan leader Everson to a blubbering fool while the same guy is shown ruthless by the end of the book.
Daniel Everson raised his head. Luca inhaled sharply when the man stood up on shaky legs. He looked ravaged. Long scratches marred his pale face. His shirt and pants were in tatters and hung on his frame. As he started walking forward, Luca noticed a pronounced limp in the electus’s left leg.
Later on in the story, Everson's character did a 180..
Everson arched an eyebrow and turned to look at the three wolves kneeling on the ground by the door. He snapped his fingers again then pointed to the floor. The three wolves were hauled to their feet and pushed across the room, then shoved back to their knees right in front of Everson.
Characters should be consistent. You can't have Everson play a tough guy when he was already portrayed as scared shitless of Rowan 10 pages ago.
Luca finally meets his anamchara, Rowan, and he plans on keeping him from the start. When he discovers that Rowan is a wolf he has a few doubts, but Rowan grows on him. Rowan is out clubbing with his brother when he meets Luca. He isn’t sure about Luca at all, especially the way that Luca keeps trying to tell him what to do. Will Rowan bow to Luca’s will? Or will Luca cave to Rowan’s personality?
Oh My God, this was so funny. I haven’t laughed so much at a book in ages. it was brilliant and really brightened up my day. Luca is a vampire to be reckoned with and when he meets his anamchara (his mate), he expects him to behave in a certain way. What he gets in Rowan is so far from what he dreamed about, but he wouldn’t change him for the world. Rowan doesn’t know what to expect from Luca or what is really expected from him, but he will only bend so far. Luca will soon find out that Rowan isn’t going to be a push over.
This is a lovely, charming and funny as hell story. I would love to tell you why but I won’t ruin it for you. Rowan and Luca are brilliant characters who are both well written and their personalities shine through. The relationship between them is a bit rocky at first, but becomes solid quickly. the sex is smoking hot between them. The story is quite good and is quite light-hearted and although there is a bit of danger, there are plenty of funny bits.
This one I will recommend to those who love shifters, vampires, hot sex, a great story, lots of laughs, great characters and a happy ending.
Oh yeah, shades of the typical Amber Kell strong-minded and deceptively sweet looking bottom who turns out to be more powerful than the big alpha guy (vampire in this case), who thought he’d be getting a nice, submissive partner.
Also, there was actual intelligence going on here. Not so much in Luca at first, although that was funny in itself, but in Rowan. He’s smart enough to figure out misunderstandings on his own, avoiding the usual crap, and I genuinely like his attitude. It’s like the best aspects of Anthony and Cecil and all those guys combined into someone who is, in fact, responsibly mischievous.
And oh, this is a fun book. Seriously, it’s one of the funniest things I have encountered in a long while. It has to be one of the most enjoyable books I’ve ever read, simply because of how hilarious it is. In the sweetest and most satisfying way, too.
It even skipped sex scenes unnecessary to the plot!
This book totally makes up for the awfulness that the evil twin of this author spews out periodically. Plus it is the first in a series, so who knows? There might be more fun along the way.
Although the other couple that got matched in the backdrop of this seems less of a fun pairing and more of a depressing one. Cause, you know, it’s involving one of the villains. Actually, two. Well, sort of. Heh. Since Everson made me laugh so hard I completely forgive him for . XD But the other guy is still a complete jerk, so…
Luca is a vampire. Rowan is a werewolf. The two should hate each other, but fate has other ideas, as they are mates and destined to be together. Stormy Glenn’s Just A Vampire starts out as your typical vampire/werewolf book with Insta-Love, bonding and conflicts within the clans. However, what sets Just A Vampire apart is the character of Rowan. He’s utterly delightful.
Rowan may seem submissive, but he’s anything but. His role as Electus Luca’s mate should mean he’s a pampered pet, but Rowan quickly breaks that mold and loves to shock his lover’s vampire friends. So instead of the same old, same old vampire trope, Stormy Glenn invents a character that bucks the traditional role of submissive partner. Between Rowan’s snarky dialogue, outrageous actions or mischievous spirit, Rowan won me over.
While the plot may focus on more of the conventional vampire-werewolf tropes, the characterizations is what makes this novel such a fun read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing how Electus Everson tames his own werewolf mate!
I have to admit the title of this book had me really intrigued, and I was very happy to be the one to get to review it. I have reviewed a number of Ms. Glenn’s books in the past and have loved them all, but I have to admit, this one has now become one of my favorites. Rowan tries so hard to be what Luca needs, but he just cannot seem to resist staying out of trouble. There was more than one spot that had me laughing out loud to the point that people were poking their head into my office to enquire what was so funny. This coupled with the great plot, stellar world building, and singe worthy love scenes makes this book a keeper! If you love paranormal romance, and hot man on man action then you do not want to miss Just a Vampire by Stormy Glenn.
Now THIS is the Stormy Glenn I know and love. When a bunch of cold blooded warriors are brought to their knees by a sneaky twink who can do battle with the best of them. I LOVED THIS.
Take note of: Go Fish scene! Kidnapping... I'm still laughing so hard.
I really enjoyed reading this very entertaining story. Rowan (wolf) was so cute, feisty, and sometimes troublesome, but also very loving, and hilarious. Luca was his vampire mate and Rowan brought out the strength in Luca. I loved the author's style of writing and the characters were all so interesting and well developed. The story was full of suspense, action, passion, and acceptance. Overall, this was absolutely awesome. =)
Rowan meets Luca at a club where Luca had set up a chance to meet him. Luca claims Rowan not realizing who he is. Rowan is a wolf from a special family and won't take any gruff as Luca soon finds out. Despite the long standing feud between vampires and wolves, Luca and Rowan defeat the odds and not even Rowan getting kidnapped a couple of times will stop their love from blooming.
I really liked Rowan, but I did NOT like Luca "had" to treat him in front of his tribe. Some things are made to be changed and this was one of them--especially since Rowan had no desire to be treated as a pet. He didn't have a submissive bone in his body and yet he allows Luca to tell him "Sit, pet" Yeah, fuck that. Also, could Rowan not at first smell his mate? Was he just going with whatever Luca said?
Also, am I the only one that didn't find Luca to be Electus material? I don't know why but he didn't rub me as a leader. Now, Everson at the pack house freaked me out a bit. Can't wait for his story, but I hear there's a couple of rape scenes and I am not sure I can get past that. Everson did crack me up after the park scene. I was loved it :) Let's hope he can stay on my good side, but I am not if I will be able to follow through and see if it happens.
I kind of wanted Rowan to use his abilities more. I guess I wanted him to be treated more as an equal, but I am not sure that ever really changed.
Sadly, I have to say that I did not really enjoy Just A Vampire.
It was a good story overall but the characters and plot left me with an unsatisfied and only vaguely interested feeling.
I am not sure why, Just A Vampire started off really good but after we got past the first meeting between them to when Rowan is going to move in with Luca. . . I do not know. To me it felt much too easy. They do not know each other, Rowan does not submit, vampires and wolf shifters are enemies, but then he just agrees to move in with him?
It didn’t seem very realistic to me even for a fictional paranormal novel. The book lost most all of my interest after that.
I will be reading more by Stormy Glenn, but Just A Vampire just didn’t do it for me.
I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a straight forward m/m paranormal romance read.
Sorry, but this one is a DNF for me. I tried to finish it, but just couldn't take it anymore. I didn't care for either main character and thought they were both just incredibly annoying. Didn't get their relationship or chemistry and thought it was just all OTT. I've been enjoying more of her recent stories, but this one just didn't work for me at all. I think it was suppose to come across as humorous, but it fell flat for me.
err...the synopsis a bit misleading, at least for me. I was expecting a massive refusal of both of them, since they are mortal enemies, and lead them to enemy-with-interest situation (?), or maybe a war which involve the entire pack (haha.. *tepok jidat*). But what i found out was an instant sex, not that I'm complaining ^^
Still, I entertained by Rowan and his bratty behavior. Yeah, it's quite a fun reading ^^
typical Stormy Glenn serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical Stormy Glenn? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all serials by UNLESS motivated otherwise by markedly good/bad writing: stormy glenn Scarlet Hyacinth joyee flynn sunny day lynn hagen carol lynne gabrielle evans
This story was good enough. It was funny and the plot line moved swiftly. My main problem was with the characterization. The book presented a new take in shifters, but it felt incomplete. I wanted to see the interaction between Luca and Rowan's family, as well as with Luca's. The characters were mostly in a bubble.
