" What Da Lick Read", the debut novel by author Sevyn McCray, was a certified hit! Honesty, Loyalty, Reality, and Killian were raised by their father Khalil, a retired king pin, who still has one foot in and one foot out the game. He instills the best in his children, making sure they always bring their A game and that they are protected. But when a friend turned foe gets the green eyes of envy, things begin to go wrong for the family and Khalil might not be able to protect the ones he loves.

I was truly amazed that this was the first book by this author. I very rarely get emotional while readng but this book took me there. It will have you laughing, crying, and even mad but at the end...it will leave you wanting part 2 immediately! lol. With virtually no errors, a great plot, twists that I never saw coming,and a cast of believeable characters, it's only right that this book gets a 5 star review!

It's a cold cruel world and you have to be ready for it by any means necessary.Khalil a single father raises 4 children on his own.He instilled in Honesty,Reality ,Loyalty and Killian the importance of education and protecting themselves.When the streets call you must answer! Honesty and her brother teams up with a childhood friend named gigi and they have the streets rocking,but the good life never last forever.Loyalty and reality are living the great life.Thy both have men that adore them and treat them like the queens that they are.So why so much destruction you ask right.Its simple JEALOUSY!!!!!!!!

I loved this story.I hated the way it ended but that just have me more amped for part two.Sevyn brought her A game with dis and know you gained a reader of your work form this story.The names were very unique and had me laughing.Great job!!!!!!!

Not a fan of urban lit but I gave it a shot anyway. I'm not a fan of slang, drugs and what have you (just can't relate) but overall it was a good read. Would like to know what happens to the characters in the future(didn't care much for the names but it's fiction so whatever). Read it in one day so it does at least hold one's interest. Overall not bad, pleasant surprise.

Well let me start of saying i was dying to read this book! Was hearing such great things about it and wanted to read it for myself. Now before I give my honest review i want it to be known i could possibly be going through readers block. Anyways i felt the book was ok. It took me way longer to read it then expected (but again could just be me) There were a lot a lot of characters especially in the beginning and because of their unique names it took me a while to get the hang of who everyone was, and who they were with and who was related because with the names and nicknames i was very confused! It had parts that were really good and some that seemed a little slow. I saw the plot and i understood it, though it did take me a while to read it that could have been due to me so i will say the plot was a good one. I would read the next book because i would want to know what happened because it seemed like the end just ended and i was expecting a little more before it ended. I wont say i was disappointed... i will say i expected a lot more, but for a first time author it was good. Cant wait to see what you do with part 2.

What an awesome book. The author really hit it out of the park. What da lick read tells the story of the children of Beloved a beautiful hustler , killed way to soon. She named her children based upon their personality Honesty,Loyalty,and Reality,each wear their names almost as badges of honor. they were ultimately reared by their king-pin father Khalil who insisted all of them graduated from college. Im so afraid to say much more because I am afraid to give away the story. If you are looking for a story about the love of a father for his children, the secrets brothers and sisters try to keep from one another and the viciousness of the street pharmacy trade, this is the book for you. I suggest you download it, get you a snack and get ready for the ride. It is awesome.....

Actually a 4.5 star book. My only complaint is that with so many different characters, just as you were getting all caught up into one character, it switched to another character. Otherwise this was a great storyline. I felt an emotional attachment to all of the characters and can not wait to get part 2 cuz I need to know what happens with Beautiful's trifling self!!

There was always drama popping out of no where in this book & it was far from predictable. I enjoyed it and I definitely need to read #2...but to sum this book up it's basically about how greed and jealousy can turn you into a monster and make you go as far as to plot against your own family/loved ones. onto book 2! =)

This is actually the first book I purchased in the new year. The buzz was crazy about this book, and I must say that this is definitely a banger!!! She came straight out the gate and killed it!!! I am anticipating part 2 like never before :)
