It's New York, February 6, 1964. The Beatles are making their first American appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in one more day. The Plaza hotel is crazy with the preparations. Desk clerk Alex Fraser has secretly let his brother Freddie use the penthouse suite for the evening so he can wine and dine the girl of his dreams. There’s just one small problem—the secret service are using the same room to hide spy novelist Henry Lade. Lade's most recent novel has attracted the attention of the Soviets and East Germans who believe Lade may have secretly discovered their plot to bomb Fresno, California. They’ve dispatched assassins to kidnap or kill Lade, which ever is easiest. Worse, just like Alex and Freddie, Henry Lade and Secret Service Agent John Parker don't know that the penthouse suite is already a bit crowded—with John, Paul, George and Ringo. ~ Come Tomorrow, everyone will be wishing for yesterday!

This book was really entertaining. I think I've never read a book like this.
At first it was a little hard to adapt, as it had so much dialogue. I really had to pay attention to get all the information but it was so much fun!
The dialogues were hilarious and the characters!!!! OMG, I loved them. I loved how they kept mixing things up, how the author wonderfully played with some words to create such funny scenes like “Let's get lade” and people would understand Let's get laid of course! This happens with the spies Vilma and Nastya: “ So – just exactly why are you ladies here?” “ We’re trying to get Lade,” said Nastya in a matter of fact tone. Shocked at her bluntness, Alex quickly tried to recover his manliness and hide his schoolboy eagerness. “ Really? So we are.” Vila kept her gun aimed at the two men and spoke with suspicion. “ You two are also trying to get Lade?” “ Yes for quite some time now,” chimed Freddie. “ But you have not yet gotten Lade?” inquired Nastya. “ Not yet, but don’t worry I will.”
(…) No I must get Lade first!” competed Vilma. “ No, me!” “No, me!”
This scene made me laugh for quite a while loool…it gets even better. But I think the most hilarious character for me was Bertha, that gigantic woman was a terror and beat anyone who pissed her off loool, but she said the funniest things! I totally recommend this book to anymore who want to have a really pleasant time while reading and having lots of fun!
I found this book absolutely hilarious and a suspenseful read. So here's the deal:
Freddie Fraser has never in his life seen the glamour that defines the rooms inside one of the most famous and posh hotels in New York, The Plaza. To woo the girl of his dreams though, he's very much willing to let his brother, hotel clerk Alex, use the famous penthouse for one evening in order to impress the young woman. What Freddie doesn't know, however, is that a few other people are booked in there at the same time. First, there's Henry Lade who's a spy novelist that needs protection by the Secret Service because his spy novels have been ringing a bit suspicious to a few political powers. The Russians and Germans believe Lade might've discovered a major plot and now Lade's life at risk. And second, there are the Beatles who happen to stay in the penthouse suite as well. What should be a straightforward job for the spies, turns into a hilarious tale of mix-ups that will keep you on your toes.
If you haven't read anything by Thomas Amo, this is one story you shouldn't miss out on. It's so funny and witty I laughed all the way through it, and would recommend it to anyone who likes tasteful humour, a well written tale and a good spy adventure.
Thomas Amo's Let's Get Lade is a hilarious read filled with moments of slapstick comedy and amusing wordplay.
Readers are introduced to two brothers who briefly take over a suite in a hotel, hoping that one of the brothers will find love. Their mission is interrupted by the arrival of Henry Lade, a famous author who is sent into hiding due to his politically challenging writings. The interruptions continue coming as one of the brothers' wife arrives and tears down the place, followed by two spies looking to get Lade. Throw in the mix impersonation of The Beatles, and you've got yourself a pile of hilarity.
Let's Get Lade is an action-packed comedy that never has a dull moment. At times, I found myself feeling frantic with the bustle occurring in the book. With so many characters appearing in the story, the reader always has someone new and exciting to learn about. Amo is a natural at character development, leaving readers feeling fulfilled at the end.
Let's Get Lade is a quick read with a high level of entertainment. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a light read and a few laughs.
So, are you ready to read something short and light? A comedy of errors and mishaps that will have you in stitches more than once? Have I got the read for you!
I was first introduced to the writing of Thomas Amo when I received a copy of An Apple for Zoë. Reading Let’s Get Lade proves just what a versatile writer Thomas is. The first book of his Forsaken Series may have taken place in a hotel as well, but that is about the only similarity between these two books. Except for the fact that I loved them both. ;)
Let’s Get Lade is slap-stick at it’s best. Even though the premise is based on assassination, there isn’t a series moment to be had. Of course the characters think that every moment is serious, which makes those moments even funnier. All in all it was basically just a fun read and a welcome distraction. Everyone should treat themselves to one of those every now and then.
Oh my gosh! This reminded me of the old "Who's on First?" joke, but funnier. At one point during the Lade/laid fiasco, I literally had to put the book down, I was laughing so hard! It brought out the perverted 12 year old inside me, you know - the one in all of us that still laughs at fart jokes. lol! After reading An Apple for Zoe, I totally didn't expect this! Hilarious, slap-kneed funny book by an entertaining author! This was a fun, quick read that I would highly recommend to all my friends!
This was a pretty funny book. Very slapstick and silly. One thing to keep in mind is that you shouldn't dive into this book thinking there will be any serious point in it at all. There isn't. It flows like a stage comedy with the same kind of humor and it works. There are a couple of moments that actually made me laugh out loud.
This was a little more over the top than Austin Powers and by the end of it I was thinking it was more like the Hot Shots level of humor. If that's your thing, then this might be something that entertains you.
An Awesome down to earth, original belly laughing, knee slapping comedy!Set in the 1960's.It has spies, novelist, romance, and most of all Laughter!Oh did I mention The Beatles!A one of a kind must read, its a quick read you will not be able to put down until the last page!I did favor Vilma the German spy.Thank You Thomas, for brightening my day!Every time I need a smile,I will get lade! I have recommended this Awesome book to all my friends!
This was a funny story! I loved it! This story was a play that was made into a book. Knowing this I could see it as a play! It made me laugh out loud! Alex & Freddie are brothers. Alex works at the Plaza. Alex arranges the penthouse suite for Freddie to use with Miss Fleming. Freddie is married to a crazy scary woman. The story is set in the 60's, when the Beatles are in NY to go on the Ed Sullivan show. It has spies, too! It was a lot of fun!
It’s definitely not what you think. Thomas Amo’s hilarious comedy with engaging characters and witty dialogue about killer spies trying to off a spy-thriller novelist Henry Lade. The twists and turns will suck you in as you cross your fingers and hope that no one gets Lade! This is a sure fire way to lighten your mood. Great writing that will keep you laughing the whole way through!
This was hilarious! I fully enjoyed every sentence of LET'S GET LADE. The cast of characters were superb. The dialogue was witty. I especially enjoyed Vilma, the German spy, and the Lade/laid play on words. This book has it all: romance, assassins, a mistress, a spurned wife, and most importantly...The Beatles. Definitely a must read!
This booked really perked me up when I was ill and feeling sorry for myself. I won it on a blog competition (First time I've won anything) But I wouldn't hesitate to buy. The characters made me laugh out load with the predicaments they found themselves in and the confusion caused in the farce. it is only while I write this review that I realise the whole story takes place in one room. Genius.
Let's Get Lade is set in the Plaza Hotel the night before the Beatles were to use the room. Alex, the desk clerk set his brother up in the penthouse so he could call his girlfriend andLet's Get Laid with a host of crazed characters finds their way to the penthouse. Between a famous novelist, a butter finger CIA agent (dumber than a box of rocks), the brother's wife AKA Godzilla, a Russian spy and a German spy, a clueless hotel manager and a girlfriend. the whole plot is hysterical. It is non-stop slapstick comedy; if you are looking for lots of laughs, this is just the book for you.
A hilarious read, Thomas Amo's Let's Get Lade is strung together by a flowy storyline, witty characters, and smart writing. The novella brought me back to all the old school comedies I love to watch over and over again. The characters together with their perfectly timed dialogue are completely ridiculous; everyone in this novella is pretty much running amok the entire time. I loved it.
