Craig Beck ABNLP, ABHYP, DhP. is considered by many to be the world's foremost authority on persuasion and human behaviour. Former UK broadcaster, certified NLP Master Practitioner, and bestselling author of more than a hundred books, he has spent two decades reverse engineering why human beings think, decide, buy, follow, and change their minds. More than a million readers across the globe have used his work to understand the hidden mechanics of influence and motivation.

Twenty years on national radio taught him the difference between writing for an audience and talking to one. When he left broadcasting, he turned that instinct on the wiring underneath persuasion itself, training as a hypnotherapist and behavioural change specialist, then translating the science into language ordinary people could carry into a real conversation.

His work spans three connected pillars. Psychology and persuasion, where he decodes how influence operates in business, politics, and relationships. True crime, where he applies the same lens to predators and dangerously persuasive personalities. Personal change, including the internationally known Stop Drinking Expert programme, born directly out of his own quiet, expensive battle with alcohol.

He writes the way he speaks. Plainly. Directly. Sometimes cheekily. Always on the assumption that you would rather hear the truth than be flattered. He does not teach theory from a safe distance. He shows you where the levers are, who has been pulling them, and how to take your hand back.

Surprisingly good, few books sit in my heart like the words in this book. I’m not new to understanding law of attraction, and was skeptical of this one 😆

Craig does a fantastic job in story telling and in those stories relating the switch to choice in life.

Will be reading again 🙌

I actually got this in audiobook for a month on hoopla. Just listening to it has started changing my thinking. I wish I had a copy of the book to send the principles to my husband..

COMPARISON, CHOICES, AND ENJOYMENT. When guests come over, you offer coffee and a kitchen full of fancy mugs; everyone grabs the prettiest mug but it doesn’t change the coffee quality, the drink is the same, and people still eye the best mugs. Don’t chase after flashy containers in life - learn to appreciate the coffee itself.
NATURE, MINDFULNESS, AND PERSPECTIVE. Does a spider get annoyed if its web gets broken and it has to fix it? Does a rabbit worry about its looks? Does the lead goose in a V-formation complain about unfairness? Buddha’s teaching: crossing a river stirs up mud, but with time it settles. It’s the same with people - if there’s disturbance, give it time and it will calm down without effort. People interested in growth are ready to look for patterns in what keeps pulling their life off track - the obvious answer is: IT’S YOU! Your perspective, your world, you’re attracting these things.
CONTROL, SOUL, AND BLAME. Let go! Trust the universe has a plan and stop trying to micromanage life. The storm is part of your prayers being answered! In this fast-paced world, we don’t give our subconscious enough silence to hear what our soul actually wants.
EGO AND ATTACHMENT. Ask someone what they’d need to be happy - would doubling their income do it? A year later, visit them and they’re still not happy. Ego reacts most to loss: take away something it’s attached to, and it demands it back or something better. Losing a loved one also wounds the ego because you don’t get those benefits from them anymore. Even kids, before they can talk, are already deeply attached to attention. Punishment for kids hits the ego - something is taken away. And anyone who stands up to you gives your ego a painful hit, so you have to react - your ego at that point needs everyone to fear you. Approval from others - total freedom happens when you believe you don’t need input from anyone else to be happy. Blame is pointless because it doesn’t change anything.

Craig narrates he audio book and has a great voice and delivery for this book that is chock full of good to remember lessons like Hoʻoponopono (ho-o-pono-pono) an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness, and the one about the American businessman and the Mexican fisherman. I found his explanation of time and the ego worth listening to repeatedly.

Am three quarters of the way through, but the material here is almost exactly the same as his other books, so I shan't bother reading to the end. What a scam.
