A retrospective study of the forty-five-year career of acclaimed American art photographer Arthur Tress combines 250 full-color and duotone photographs with an in-depth biographical essay of the artist and an incisive critical analysis of his work and his place in American photographic history. 10,000 first printing.
One gets the feeling after wading through the essays and interviews and lengthy introductions and captions that perhaps Arthur Tress should let his work speak for itself. The photographs and paintings and installation pieces are all perfectly profound and fascinating, all on their own. Unfortunately, Tress himself was a bit of a goofy mystic, and I would suggest we not let his word be the last word when it comes to his life's work. Let the audience decide.
