Local Heroes

Rate this book
Heroes come in many forms and guises, and they walk among us in our daily lives, often unknown to us prior to their acts of heroism. Yet we all know them when we encounter them. They are individuals, or perhaps a group of individuals who touch our lives in a positive way during our most adverse moments.

Born in a galaxy far, far away, musician, author (and former editor) Brandon L. Rucker now resides on the 3rd planet from the star known as Sol where he splits his spare time between making songs & making stories for the beautiful (and ugly) people of Earth.

Note from the Author

As of January 2024, I have finally toggled from making music back to writing fiction. Long fiction. As in novel-length stories that will become published books. Like with my music where I had so much unfinished business to tend to prior to turning 50 (a personal goal), I have even more unfinished business to complete where my writing is concerned. The ‘back 50’ of my life, however long that may actually be, will be devoted to the art (and commerce) of writing.

Legacy bio (2015 on back)

As a published writer Rucker is the author of over a dozen short stories, half a dozen poems and numerous articles of non-fiction and journalism. He writes a rather motley brand of fiction, dipping in and out of a variety of genres as well as sometimes blending them together. His short fiction and poetry have appeared online at BLINK|INK, LIQUID IMAGINATION and DEAD GUNS PRESS, as well as in small press print anthologies published by DFE QUARTERLY (via PILL HILL PRESS), STATIC MOVEMENT and HOUSE OF HORROR.

As an editor Rucker has had edited short fiction for ZOETROPE: ALL-STORY EXTRA (May – June 2000), STATIC MOVEMENT books imprint (Oct 2010 – Nov 2011, culminating in Local Heroes anthology), and Liquid Imagination online webzine (Oct 2010 – Aug 2013).

Let's forget for a moment that I have a story in this collection. I can say that the tales in Local Heroes are at once very different from one another while sharing one thing in common: they wonderfully capture what it means to be a hero. From the creepy to the thoroughly moving, these stories examine the many forms heroes take. Be they soldiers on a battlefield, first responders on 9/11 or a cat that's fiercely protective of its owner, heroes are all around us. Many of their tales are in this collection. You will be moved and enlightened for having read them.
