Specific Gravity (Brewing Passion) by Liz Crowe * I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*
We first meet Trent and Lisa in The Rookie where he rides along with her as she makes service calls to the beer vendors. The attraction between the two is instantaneous and burns hotter than Trent has experienced before. He is recovering from a bad divorce is scared of the intensity of the feelings for Lisa. If he ignores them, they will go away right?
Trent and Lisa are drawn to each other from the first time they meet. She has no doubt that Trent is the one for her but he is too stubborn to see they are meant for each other. She is a strong independent woman that knows what she wants and will even resort to jealously to get it.
Trent is gun shy where women are concerned. He was burned by his ex-wife and he isn’t ready to trust another woman yet. He is enjoying his time with Lisa, as long as it stays casual. When he realizes that he has fallen in love with her, he decides the best way to make the feelings go away is to ignore her. Not the smartest decision he has ever made.
This short story gives us another look at one of my favorite couples. They are perfect for each other but they can’t seem to get on the same page. Lisa wants a permanent relationship with Trent but he is still running away from long term commitments. They are extremely hot together so you can’t help but hope they will work things out. I loved the final scene outside the restaurant. It was the perfect end to this short story.

The story begins with Trent ignoring Lisa’s phone calls. He knows it’s wrong but doesn’t know what else to do. He’s realized that he loves her but he’s afraid to commit to another relationship. Lisa is at the end of her rope with him. She’s been calling (and been ignored) for a week. She won’t do it anymore. Instead, she pushes his buttons by going to dinner with her schmaltzy boss. She makes sure that Trent sees her boss’ hand on her thigh and that he hears her laughing at her boss’ inane jokes. But when he doesn’t seem to get jealous, she leaves (after dumping a drink on him).
While there was a little back story given (a couple of flashback scenes that replay the moment each realized they loved the other), there was no real history for us to base this relationship on. As such, I felt this story was a little bit too “normal”. I mean, a guy who’s so afraid of commitment that he starts ignoring his girlfriend’s phone calls? Yeah, I think most of us have been there.
Now, the sex in Specific Gravity is off the wall hot. There is one scene where they have sex in a taxi, completely dressed, and behind the driver. These scenes are well-written and explosive. (Makes me almost want to try it!)
There just didn’t seem to be a real reason for this story, other than Trent feared commitment. I would have liked to read a longer version, perhaps getting more of the character development and more of the relationship details.
As I stated in my review of The Rookie, Lisa and Trent are my favorite couple in this series and I was really excited to get the chance to read more about them in this book. In this book, Trent & Lisa continue their relationship with a few bumps in the road.
Trent is scared. Not so long ago he came out of a bad relationship and the thought of being in another one scares the hell out of him. Mainly because his feelings for Lisa are so intense, strong & like nothing he has ever felt before. He starts pulling back from her. He thinks if he just ignores the feelings that they will ‘go away’ and then he can think. Needless to say, that pisses Lisa off. Trent is the one Lisa wants, but not if she feels like she has to convince him of it. She wants to be wanted by him without any question or doubt.
The chemistry between these two is explosive and commands your attention. I loved watching the growth between them and their journey along the path to one another. Yes it had a few twists and turns but once you reach the end, it was well worth it! Fabulous ending to an even more fabulous series :)
Too short. Good background about Trent and Lisa's relationship. Should have just been a part of Tap Room though, since it happened before the events of that book.
