(ENTREE TO ENTRELAC) THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE FROM A BIASED KNITTER BY BORTNER, GWEN(Author)XRX Books[Publisher]Paperback{Entree to Entrelac: The Definitive Guide from a Biased Knitter} on 17 Aug -2010
Revisiting a forgotten technique, this resource guides knitters through the steps, skills, and concepts necessary for mastering etrelac stitching. Though this way of knitting may intimidate beginning crafters, this reference explains the simple ways to build an understanding of the basics, how to master advanced techniques, and even combine entrelac with other knitting methods. Projects include scarves, bags, mittens, slipper socks, hats, and other garments, all worked in a wide range of yarn types.
Very clear introduction to knitting entrelac, which includes several projects, from hats to garments, including skirts. Very rich in information, it devotes a large section to explaining the technique, with lots of pictures to illustrate the construction. Definitely a reference book, with projects as a very welcome bonus.
I had the privilege of meeting Gwen Bornter for a 3-day knitting workshop. She is an amazing teacher and I learned so much. We had an evening going through the book and she talked about the patterns, modeled samples from the book, and talked about fit and alterations and sizing. I read the whole book after I got home, and it is very comprehensive and imaginative. The pictures and diagrams are clear and descriptive, and she offers so many ideas! I want to knit knit knit after reading this book. Gwen's applications of entrelac are unique and elevate the entire concept to a whole new level, including shaping!!
I will qualify my review: I am an experienced knitter and already familiar with entrelac; I think beginners will have no problem but this review is not from a beginner. Also, I would say that not all the garments fit the models so well, even if the photos are beautiful.
I liked this intro to entrelac very much, perhaps partly because I saw the author give a demonstration of the technique. Each chapter introduces a new skill, so beginners should definitely start at the beginning.
