For Me #2

Fear For Me: A Novel of the Bayou Butcher by Cynthia Eden

Rate this book
She’s the obsession two men share: one wants her love, the other wants her life.

A shared passion for justice first brought Baton Rouge district attorney Lauren Chandler and US marshal Anthony Ross together—when each played their part in bringing down the infamous Bayou Butcher. The sparks flying between the two made it clear they weren’t just a legal dream team. Then desire had to make way for duty, and what they had was done. But it would never be over.

Five years later, it’s none other than the Butcher who gets things started again, when his shocking jailbreak reunites the lawyer and the lawman…and reignites their love. But this time, the pair is in danger of being permanently parted—by a killer with revenge on his mind, and Lauren on the top of his list. As a new wave of terror sweeps through the streets and swamps of Baton Rouge, one man will pit his boundless passion against another’s relentless hate, for the life of the woman who obsesses them both.

I wouldn’t say this book was boring, but it was definitely less entertaining than average from Cynthia Eden. I finished only to find out who was the ‘partner’ of the serial killer. The whole story was a bit flat, IMO of course.

Ugh! 2nd chance… Ugh! Couldn’t stand the hero. He was a side character in previous book and he didn’t show his best & strong side then; and in this story he was just meh.

Both not celibate during separating, but he more than her. Since when does CE have such lines in her books?..:
“I didn’t even realize why I was with the blonde.” He glanced over his shoulder. “When I called her by your name, then I knew.”
I don’t find it romantic. Sorry for this OW! Plus his reason for leaving the h 5 years ago… Ugh!

The heroine was ok, I didn’t shelf her as strong, but also not as weak. Her easy acceptance of the H cheapened her character.

Not a bad book by all means, but not the usual level of Cynthia Eden.

"The way I feel about you - it's not easy and light. It's dark and dangerous."
Cynthia Eden is baaaaack....and she totally knocked it out of the park with this stellar Romantic Suspense. I'd say it was heavy on the suspense, and it was...but it was also heavy on the romance, heavy on intensity, heavy on awesome. :D

MY SYNOPSIS:
In this story, a sadistic serial killer escapes from prison with one goal in mind: to bring down the woman who caged him for five years, District Attorney Lauren Chandler. And not only does he not care how many people he has to kill to get to her; but he absolutely revels in each bloody murder, lingering over his victims when he can, enjoying each slice of his blade and leaving pointed non-clues for those that he knows are chasing him.

When the Bayou Butcher escapes, US marshal Anthony Ross immediately knows who his next target will be. Not only was Anthony part of the team that took down the killer, but he was also hopelessly addicted to Lauren as well; albeit in a much more romantic way. But he chose to walk away, for reasons of his own, leaving the stoic DA much more brokenhearted than she ever let on.

Now these two attempt to head off their old nemesis. But he's smart and savvy, and it seems he's always one step ahead.

MY THOUGHTS:
Wow, I was riveted to this book. The pacing was perfection; I read it from start to finish in one night, staying up way later than I should have because the whodunnit completely eluded me until the big reveal. Is it just me or is it really hard to pinpoint the bad guy in Eden's novels? I never, ever can spot them! Same with this book...I had a couple of ideas, both of which ended up being wrong. Let me tell you, this guy is pretty bad. Not so gruesome that you have to be squeamish. No rape or really disturbing things....well, other than the fact that he likes to take his time slicing people up. But compared to the psychological darkness that seems to permeate romance lately, this was just good ole evil villain bad guy.

I tend to love a second chance romance. I love the initial awareness between a couple that has already shared intimacy...it's a completely different atmosphere than just sexual attraction. It's sexual attraction paired with both affection and awkwardness. Lauren and Anthony most definitely have the awareness thing going on, but they also both have emotions that go much deeper than they are willing to let on. Each time they were together, the air sizzled. And when they finally seal the newest deal...WOW. Smoking hot, with real emotional depth behind the sexy.
"I could never forget the way you taste," he said. Her lashes lifted. His eyes...she pulled in a quick breath...he looked hungry. Not for food. "Sin and sweetness, all twisted together. You fucking bring me to my knees."

Lauren is a bit more reserved with her emotions, but she can't deny them. And when Anthony starts to sort of stake his claim again...because he can't help it, really...she seems to like it. And so did I! Possessive alpha, yes he is! Yet he's realistic and loveable as well. Not over the top in any way. THIS is an alpha that I'd like to lick...I mean, love...in real life.

So, this was a second chance romance, fully self contained, phenomenally intense and just spicy enough to ramp up the romance. I five star read for me, and yet another example of Eden's amazing storytelling skills.
"Love could be twisted for some. Anthony's hand brushed lightly over Lauren's arm. And love could be dark and dangerous and perfect for others."

Wanna know what's worse than having a serial killer on the loose? Learning that there are two of them!

The Bayou Butcher has broken out of prison and he's out for revenge. And he's not alone. When those he's targeting realize that he has a partner, that maybe he's always had a partner, the hunt is even more urgent to put these killers away.

Five years ago, Anthony and Lauren had something special. However, after working a case together, despite her pleas that he stay, he knew he had to leave. But gone doesn't mean forgotten and neither of them were able to forget the other. To move past what they had. To get over those feelings. And since Anthony was the one to help put the Butcher away in the first place, it's only right that he be the one to come back to hunt him down. He's back and what he feels for Lauren is stronger than ever. This time he vows to give what they have a shot, if she'll let him. He just needs to keep her alive and catch the bad guys.

I enjoyed being in the minds of the killers. It was just as creepy and icky as it needed to be. The author did a great job of capturing how truly twisted and disgusting these men were. I will admit that I figured out my top three candidates for the partner pretty early on and one of them were the right answer. It was a load of fun seeing how it tied in. I did want more of an explanation for how these two men worked together, but I was content with what I got.

Scary and eerie, Fear For Me left me on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what would happen next and I'm looking forward to reading the next book of this series.

4.5 Spine Tingling Suspensful Stars

He waned her to see him exactly as he was. Far from good. Far from perfect. With a darkness inside that would always burn.

There is one thing I know for sure I'm going to get whenever I pick up a book by Cynthia Eden; spine-tingling suspense and chilling action filled with twists and turns, with a super steamy romance thrown flawlessly into the mix.

I have been a huge fan of Eden's since her Deadly series, and this book is the perfect example of why. My favorite thing about her writing, is her ability to let you into the killer's head. I love getting the bad guys POV, it always adds to the experience of the book. Fear For Me is the continuation of the Montlake Series, and I'd recommend reading Die For Me before. Although there is enough background information given that you can easily read it as a standalone.

How thin is the line that separates love from obsession?

5 years ago Lauren and Anthony had a passionate affair. They burned hot and bright, but then Anthony suddenly left, leaving Lauren's heart in pieces.

But are things truly as they seem?

When the shocking prison escape of a brutal serial killer puts Lauren's life in danger, they are reunited once more. But this time, Anthony knows that he will be unable to walk away and is determined to make Lauren his at all costs.

I was sucked into the story from the very first page. It kept me at the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Just as I thought I had some idea of what was going on, Eden would throw in a twist that left me not knowing which end was up anymore. I love the unpredictability of her writing.

Although the predominant part of the book was the suspense, the romance was the perfect addition. Eden always has just the right amount of steamy romance in her writing that it never takes away from the mystery and action. It's flawlessly interwoven into the story.

Lauren, the tough as nails DA, was the perfect balance to Anthony's dark intensity. The passion between them was explosive. When they finally get together...

Although you know who the killer is from the beginning doesn't mean a thing. There were so many twists and turns I couldn't get myself to put the book down until the end. Just as I thought I had nailed down what was happening, another twist was thrown in. And then another. And then another. It kept me guessing until the very end.

If you're a fan of romantic suspense, you really can't go wrong with a Cynthia Eden book. A chilling and suspenseful ride from beginning to end.

I consider Cynthia Eden a first-rate romantic suspense writer. If I had to grade the suspense element in Fear For Me, I would give it an A-. It was riveting and frightening. For one, I could not put my Kindle down. The story was also twisty and kept me guessing, which is rare. I jumped from suspect to suspect to suspect, and I was more than a bit surprised at the reveal.

But the romance? Oof. Second chance romances are tricky. But I wasn't very worried because I read and liked another second chance romance by Eden. Unfortunately, this didn't work as well for me.

Former lovers Lauren, an ADA, and Anthony, a US Marshal, reunite after the Bayou Butcher, an infamous serial killer, escapes from prison. The Butcher has vowed revenge against those who put him away, and Lauren is at the top of the list. While the premise was ripe for a heated and heartfelt reconciliation, the romance felt oddly emotionless and dull. Lauren was cold and wouldn't open up to Anthony (yet opened up to a former lover who is still very present and annoying af in the story), and Anthony...well. Eden is adept at writing heroes who are obsessed - but not in a creepy way - with the heroines. Anthony, however, ventured into creepy territory. I can't say that I would have opened up to him, either. Both parties admitted that their relationship was driven by sex, and a deeper connection never shone through.

I'm chalking it up to a rare miss by an otherwise stellar author. As I noted above, Eden is fantastic at her craft. I'll continue the series.

Fear For Me is a very good romantic suspense story with a serial killer on the loose and a second chance love story. Anthony Ross is a great character, something you can see in Die For Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer. I was afraid Lauren was going to be one of those characters the way she acted in the beginning, but that's not the case. Fortunately, the annoyance in the beginning stayed there.

The suspense part is very good and it's the focus of the story. You might guess some things right away, but the author does a decent job of distracting a reader throughout the story. There are some less believable parts (I believe the U.S. Marshals are more competent), but nothing too bad.

As for the love story, the reasons the two main characters aren't together are believable. As are the reasons for their reunion. I liked it.

Recommended to romantic suspense lovers.

“The way I feel about you - it’s wild and it’s dark. I want you with me all the time. I want your body, your heart. I want you to need me as much as I need you.”

District Attorney Lauren Chandler and Marshal Anthony Ross met five years ago during the Bayou Butcher trial. The chemistry between them was off the charts, but when the trial was over, Anthony left.

Now it’s five years later and the Bayou Butcher has escaped, and he’s gone back to exact his revenge on the people who tried to put him away, especially DA Lauren Chandler. Anthony is back on the case, apprehending the Bayou Butcher and keeping Lauren safe his first priority.

I must say it took a while for me to like Antony as the love interest. The fact that he left Lauren five years ago, made me think that all he felt for her was lust, and nothing more. However, the more of Anthony’s past was revealed, I came to realise that he left Lauren because the intensity of his feelings for her scared him, he was so very afraid of hurting her. He knew just how destructive obsession can be, after what happened to his parents, and he never wanted that for Lauren.

”You matter.” He growled out the words. “You’re the thing in this world, the only fucking thing, I can’t live without. I know. I tried living without you for years, and was so damn miserable. A hole was in my chest, and every day, I was just going through the motions. Hoping no one saw just how lost I was.”

The chemistry between Lauren and Anthony was undeniable, and in a certain way both of them were to blamed for things not working out before. Both kept their emotional distance, not letting the other get to know them better. I liked that Anthony was the one to pursue Lauren this time, and after almost dying in the previous book and realising what he lost, what has always been most important to him, Lauren, he fought for her, fought for the future he wanted with her.

The suspense in this book was gripping and chilling, and the Bayou Butcher was a very scary monster. There was a very nice twist with regard to who the Bayou Butcher was and his past, that I really enjoyed.

I just love this series. For those who love a good romantic suspense, you can do no better than Cynthia Eden. This series is a must read.

Fantastic!!! Simply Cynthia Eden's fantastic suspense!!

I love how this woman writes! She's able to make you feel everything her characters feel and that's the best a writer can do! Brava!!!

The story pacing is masterfully fast without leaving out anything important. With a few brief descriptions she makes you think you're right there with the protagonists. The swamp comes alive and the fear creeps. You can immagine being there and feeling somebody watches you with evel intent! WOW!!!

I don't know if Lauren and Tony are the secondary characters in the novel about Valentine Killer, but I haven't missed any important thing here regarding their past together.

It's obvious there was a very intense past. Tony's, as he calles it, obsession with Lauren is so obvious right from the beginning. But its is also obvious that it is more than obsession: it's something deeper and purer. It's LOVE!!

It is also obvious that Lauren is equally involved, but she's hurt by Tony's abandonment.

From the start she's stalked by the Butcher and Tony is the one leading the hunt, so she's forced to be near him. And that's exactly what she wants. She cannot resist the pull. But she also doesn't understand his change of heart. Why he wants her now when he left before?

When finally Tony explains his reasons, they're easy to understand and so very touching.

There's no doubt neither in her nor in him about their love and it's great! I enjoy when there's no useless recrimination and doubt about feelings and here it is just enough! WOW!

The heat is right there since the beginning and it's hot, hot, hot! The ned Tony and Lauren have for each other is so strong and even in this very difficult situation it's unavoidable and uncontollable! *fanning myself*

The killer is devious. He doesn't hide and he kills seeking his revenge against everyone, but what he wants is Lauren. It's kreepy. It's sick. And his delirium is described so very well! Here his sick mind is revealed and you got to see his twisted reasoning!

During this hunt Lauren and Tony fight their own demons. Those demons have deep roots and are not easy to fight, but both are strong and determined not to let the demons win.

Also the secondary characters are interesting and I hope that in the next books their stories are told too. I'm very interested in Candance! *wink*

First thing's first: I have not read the first book. I didn't really need to since everything was clear and easy to understand.

Okay-dokey (is that okay? Did I spell it right?)

Anyways. I'll be trying to write a SHORT review for every book I read from now on. I love short, sweet, and simple when it comes to reviews. (by me at least.) other people are much better at the length when it comes to them but, not I!

So the main character(s) are enjoyable though let's be honest, I never was able to relate about anything with them. Also I didn't really believe the reason for the breakup between the two. But hey, maybe that just me.

Next, the plot was good but, there was in fact one thing that made me a little annoyed.

Overall, since I don't feel like typing anymore, keeping it short and sweet. ;)

If you like romance (not that much) and action (pretty good), then you'll enjoy this story.

P.S: There is literally no mystery that I could tell. If I missed it, please feel free to tell me. The first killer was given in like the first few pages and the second wasn't really a mystery since you couldn't guess, or make a list of suspects of who the other killer could be.

3 out of 5 stars for me. :)

Mixed feelings on this one. The romance between Anthony, a US Marshall, and Lauren, the DA, was odd, emotionless for the first part of the bk and a bit on the dark side. HA! For a time I was wondering if the author was really gonna pull a “who done it” on Lauren and have the strangely obsessed Anthony do her in. So as far as the romance is concerned – this was a fail for me. I never connected with that relationship at all. There was more emotion from the FBI profiler than the cold heroine.

The suspense part of the story was pretty darn good. The story was out of balance for me putting the focus more on the thriller than the romance. After about a third of the way through I wasn’t sure that I wouldn’t just skim this one. But the suspense finally snagged my attention and had me hooked. Had to stay up late to finish just to find out the identity of the killer. Clever author puts the focus on so many people and leads the reader is so many different directions you’re not sure who the killer is until the very end. I love it when the author keeps me guessing.

Of course there’s an HEA for our odd couple and I’m glad they got the closure they were looking for. So despite the relationship disconnect there’s entertainment value in the suspense element. I’ll have to go with an overall rating of 3.5 stars.

Romance = 2.5
Suspense = 4.0
Rating =3.25 but I’ll bump to 3.5

Back at it again the suspenseful romance keeps you on edge.
We meet US Marshal Anthony Ross in the first series now we see him protect the one girl he let go. Anthony and attorney Lauren worked together to put away the famous killer "the Butcher" now he escaped and determined to hunt down Lauren and get his revenge. The perfect team works together before he kills again while still struggling with the emotions that haven't left each other all this time.
I liked Anthony I thought he might have liked the girl in the first book but nope he has his own love in Lauren. I liked Lauren she was tough yet still scared to fall in love and Anthony was there to catch her. Besides focusing on their love the part of hunting for a serial killer was great really keeps you on your toes.

I liked this, not as much as some of Eden's others. The last 25% had me just going round and round accusing the same three people. I like it when I'm not 100% sure who dunnit. The romantic aspect didn't work as well for me in this one, but still worth the read

I am developing a serious love/hate relationship with Cynthia Eden.. Love intense, romantic suspense books, hate having to wait for more.. of course I am not sure if I love or hate the fact that she keeps me totally on the edge of my seat the entire freaking book! Fear for Me is book two in what I am calling her For Me Series.. and again I am going to have to go back and find book one. This woman can seriously write suspense!!

Lauren Chandler made her career when she prosecuted and convicted the Bayou Butcher..It's also when she met the one man who truly made her feel. The one man who came into her life, made her fall in love with him and then walked away. Five years later she is no longer an ADA but the DA of Baton Rouge and life should be good.. Except the Bayou Butcher has escaped and headed home, with Lauren in his sites.. He wants revenge.

US marshal Anthony Ross never quite understood the difference between love and obsession so when he fell hard for Lauren Chandler, he had to walk away. He was afraid his "obsession" would eventually destroy her. But he was never able to get her out of his mind and more importantly, his heart. Now he is back in Baton Rouge, back to the beginning tracking the Bayou Butcher and falling for Lauren all over again. This time nothing is going to stop him from getting the girl.

WOW!! OH WOW!! edge of your seat romantic suspense. I absolutely loved every minute of this book! I don't do well in suspenseful situations and yet, I was unable to put it down. The story just captured me.. it sucked me in, and wouldn't let go! I can not say enough about the intensely powerful writing of Ms Eden.. It is gripping and intense and honestly, her books should be considered for movies.. these stories would keep the viewers forever on the edge of their seats.

Once again, Ms Eden hands us a cast of characters that are passionately human. We are never quite sure who the good guys are, who the bad guys are and who is just human. Who makes bad choices for good reasons and who makes good choices for bad ones. Flawed individuals with painful, heart wrenching, secrets in their pasts. People that need to learn how to trust and really who to trust. Tracking down the Bayou Butcher is actually the easy part in this book.. finding what drives that evil was an entirely different thing.

Add to the suspense an intense romance and oh yeah, solid gold!! If you haven't checked out Ms Eden as of yet.. do so!!

There's just nothing like a good solid and dark romantic suspense book for me. I love reading all the different genres of romance but RS has always captured my heart and soul. And Cynthia Eden's stories are among some of my favorites.

This one kept me glued to the chair and caught up in a whirlwind of murder and suspense from the beginning. At various points throughout the story, I suspected several of the front and center characters -- even the eventual guilty party. Still yet, I was never certain until almost the last moment before the big reveal. Now that's what I'm talking about when I say I am in dire need of a RS fix. The criminal element and building storyline was definitely satisfying.

I felt a little less positive where our main characters were concerned. I never really felt a deep level connection between them. Yeah, they were hot for each other and the chemistry was explosive. It just didn't flow well and emit the right charge for me. They seemed stiff and cold -- almost a calculated togetherness that didn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy towards them. This could have something to do with their careers and the crime situations they found themselves in. It does take a special type person to work these types of heinous and revolting crimes and perhaps in their defense, it's just not in their personalities to be anything but calculating.

Still yet, it was a really good read for me and one I was happy to find at just the right time. I'll definitely be awaiting the next release from Cynthia Eden.

Note: Special thanks to my Goodreads book buddy, Ann, for sharing this book with me. When I was looking for a romantic suspense to get me over a major slump, she definitely came through for me.

After several Eden novellas, I was ready for a longer, meatier book. I got it in Fear for Me.

The suspense in the book is great. I was kept guessing about who dunnit for most of the book. I love that. LOVE. There’s nothing I hate more than knowing who did it WAY before everyone in the book knows, or worse, figuring it out even when I wasn’t supposed to. If that happens, it colors the rest of the book for me.

Now for the love story. I wanted to like Lauren and Anthony. And separately, I did. I wasn’t real happy with the romance. And I don’t know why. There was angst. There was a passionate past. They were smokin’ hot in bed together. So I have no earthly idea why I didn’t dig on these two together. I’ve sat with this book, thinking and thinking about these two and STILL coming up blank about why I wasn’t convinced they needed to be together. Or maybe, it was that I didn’t believe the reasons they’d been apart for so long. SO DAMN LONG. It is becoming harder and harder for me to buy that people stay apart for such flimsy reasons for 5, 10, 15 YEARS. I wouldn’t do it. I don’t know many people who would. So maybe that’s why I have such a problem with this plot device.

Anyway, this is a solid Cynthia Eden read. Although, I love her PNR/UF stuff the best, she really does suspense very well.

Fear For Me is the second book in the Montlake Suspense series. It can be read as a stand-alone. I had the privilege of reading the first book in the series and I had thoroughly enjoyed it, as such when I had the chance to read Fear for me I was ecstatic. I received a copy from Net-Galley to provide an honest review. Fear For Me is a gripping and suspenseful story that had grabbed my attention from the very first word. This story took me on quite a ride that when it finally ended I was literally trying to catch my breath. For one moment I thought was watching an episode of Criminal Minds. It has so many twists and turns that it will have your head spinning just trying to figure out what the hell is happening. The story was fast paced and had me turning the pages as I so wanted to know who the villain was. I had made several guesses, but I was wrong on all accounts. When you think you have it figured out Ms. Eden comes with another twist that throws you completely. Although the main focus of the book was on the suspense, the romance between Anthony and Lauren was explosive. These two has a romantic history but for personal reasons Anthony had walked away. Now due to the reappearance of the Bayou Butcher their paths have crossed again. Their reunion was a bit cool at first but when these two finally let go of the past it became very explosive. If you are looking for story that will grab you and stays with you until the very end then you need to get yourself a copy of Fear For Me. Definitely recommend it to lovers of romantic suspense.

Love could be twisted for some…And love could be dark and dangerous and perfect for others.

Five years ago, Lauren and Anthony worked together to bring down Jon Walker, the Bayou Butcher, a serial killer that murdered women in the Baton Rouge area of LA. Anthony was a US Marshall and helped apprehend the killer. Lauren worked in the Districts Attorney’s office and prosecuted the case...During that time, Lauren and Anthony had a passionate affair that ended when Anthony left town. Fear for Me picks up five years later when the Bayou Butcher escapes from prison and once again threatens the residents of Baton Rouge. Lauren and Anthony must work together to find the killer. But this time, the Butcher wants Lauren. Anthony must keep her safe while facing the truth about his feelings for her, once and for all.

“The way I feel about you—it’s wild and it’s dark. I want you with me all the time. I want your body, your heart. I want you to need me as much as I need you.” It fucking sounded like obsession, and that wasn’t what he wanted. He was trying to explain that it was more than just a dark need. He’s discovered it was more.

Fear for Me is Cynthia Eden at her best. For fans of Cynthia Eden that are familiar with her other books, I’d compare the suspense portion of the story to her Deadly series. I was pulled in from the first chapter and stayed glued to my kindle until the very end. Each time I thought I knew what was coming next, the story would take an unexpected turn. At one point, I wasn’t sure who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. The story kept me guessing the whole time. The surprises just kept coming. The romance part of the story, specifically Anthony’s character, reminded me of Cynthia Eden’s Mine series. Anthony shares similar traits with the ubber alpha hero’s from that series. He is sexy, edgy, and is almost obsessive in his feelings and need for Lauren. As a lover of all alpha males, Anthony was a character I loved.

“The women I’ve been with…they were you.”

“That doesn’t make any –“

“At first, it was because I was pissed at losing you. I didn’t even realize why I was with the blonde.” He glanced over his shoulder. “When I called her by your name, then I knew.”

There was shock on her face.

“In the dark, they’re always you.” He knew it was screwed up. He was screwed up. His jaw locked. He’d pushed enough, and if he didn’t get out of there right then, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to walk away from her.

While the suspense is on point, the romance is equally as good.

Right then, what he wanted most was her. His cock stretched, thrusting toward her. In his mind, she was already naked. They were on the big desk. He was in her. His heart was a drumbeat pounding in his ears. Her scent seduced him, her body tempted him, and her tongue, her lips- they made him so hard. The kiss stopped being gentle. It became rougher. Wilder. Her taste was all he knew. All he craved.

Always a Cynthia Eden fan, I loved this book! I wish I would have done a re-read of Die for Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer before reading Fear for Me since the books are tied together. I read Die for Me so long ago, I couldn’t remember the details. If you enjoy reading romantic suspense and have the time, I’d recommend starting with Die for Me first. It absolutely is not necessary. Fear for Me works fine as a stand-alone but Anthony is first introduced in Die for Me and I always like to read stories in order, if possible. Both stories are very good and were five star reads. This is definitely a must read series and Scream for Me (planned for release in the Spring of 2014) will be at the top of my TBR list when it’s available.

For Amazon Prime members, both Die for Me and Fear for Me are available for borrowing as part of the Prime program.

A few months ago when I read the book Die For Me by Cynthia Eden, the author announced that will write book about US marshal Anthony Ross who we meet in that book and when finnaly this book got synopsis, after reading,I was excited that we will have another book in this series, after impatiently waiting for many months, the book is finnaly here and when I saw that I was approved ARC,I was literally jumping up and down :D

Many times I have written what I think about books by Cynthia Eden, now I want to write why thrillers/romantic suspension of Cynthia Eden are one of the best books!

They are dark, complicated, intelligent, psychological, different, but it is all connected in one great, understandable combination, combination that flows like water, but by the end the question remains who is the real, true villain in the story.
In this book we meet a totally different concept, which we have not met before,at least i haven't met,but it's a very original idea that will leave you surprised.
The main characters are Baton Rouge district attorney Lauren Chandler and US marshal Anthony Ross - two strong, unique, fighters, also a perfect couple :)

" ... a new wave of terror sweeps through the streets and swamps of Baton Rouge, one man will pit his boundless passion against another’s relentless hate, for the life of the woman who obsesses them both."

This book blow me away!
Another book winner from Cynthia Eden :)

If you want to read something great, unique, then this book is right choice for you!
Prepare for an unexpected, intelligent, psychological story that will keep you on the edge, whole time!

“The way I feel about you—it’s wild and it’s dark. I want you with me all the time. I want your body, your heart. I want you to need me as much as I need you.”

Once upon a time Lauren and Anthony worked together to bring down the Bayou Butcher. Lauren prosecuted the case while Anthony helped catch the killer. But all they while, they had an affair which ended by Anthony leaving town.

Fear for Me: A Novel of the Bayou Butcher starts five years later when the Bayou Butcher escapes from prison and wants revenge from the people who put him away, Lauren and Anthony. Now the time has come for them to work together in order to catch the killer yet again. But this time the kills are more personal than before. The killer wants Lauren dead and Anthony would rather kill him before letting anything happen to her...

Cynthia Eden's book are brilliant and Fear for Me is not an exception.

This book was full of suspense, romance, twists, surprises and more. It gripped my attention from page 1 till the end. Every time I turned a page I wasn't sure what would happen. There were sooooooooo many twists and turns! Moreover, as I kept turning the pages I began doubting everyone. There was a point that I suspected everyone.

However the book has romance as well. I really liked Anthony’s character. He was my favourite part of the book. So dark yet so loving, edgy but so protective. Alpha male all the way! He was a tortured man. Obsessed with a woman who was his salvation and his doom. Anthony was a character I adored.

"Love could be twisted for some…And love could be dark and dangerous and perfect for others."

All in all, this was an incredible book. Definitely worth reading and necessary for every shelf. It had all the things that make a book perfect and an Alpha male. Can we ask for more? I think not.

Totally recommended! Looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Scream For Me: A Novel of the Night Hunter ...

*This book is part of a series. It can be read as a stand-alone but it would be better if you could read the first book in the series before reading this.

Review posted on Got Fiction?

This is book 2 in the For Me series, and follows Die For Me (but stands alone). Anthony Ross, the US Marshall from the previous book is the hero here. He and Lauren Chandler, the DA, were involved 5 years ago, but he broke it off. He felt he was getting too close to her and due to some issues from his past, he thought he might be getting obsessed with her. But events from Die For Me made him realize that he loved Lauren, and he wanted her back. So when he was sent to Louisiana to help catch a serial killer Lauren had put away years ago, he knows he's got to fix what he screwed up by leaving.

Lauren wanted him. She never knew why he left. She'd asked him to stay and he just left. Honestly this is the main reason I gave it a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star rating. This is never explained to Lauren, and they never really have a conversation about it at all. They just pick up at all the lusty feelings they left off at, and with danger around every corner, there is no time for conversations.

The killer has escaped from prison and I think in this book we see the most page time with the killer than ever before. He's a huge part of the book, and he wants Lauren. She's the reason he was put away, and she's got to die for him. He has spent years plotting this, and now he's loose and very good at staying one step ahead of the authorities. Anthony isn't letting Lauren out of his sight, and Lauren doesn't mind it one bit. This just enrages the killer, though and he deviates from his normal ways. The FBI team with Anthony is playing catch up, and still can't figure out how the killer has been evading them. But when Lauren is taken by the killer, will the team find her in time, or will she become the Bayou Butcher's latest victim?

I will say that this book is incredibly suspenseful. Every time I thought I'd figured out the killer, a new clue would change my mind, or a new potential suspect would pop up. It was really well done, and I want to dive into the next book right away!

5 Heart Stopping- action packed- thrilling stars!

Wow- I love Cynthia Eden books. They are always non-stop, and I find myself thumbing through the pages (or the screen) to read the next page because it is always so intense. Lauren Chandler has put away the Bayou Butcher. He was convicted and sentenced to life for killing 7 women and he is there to stay and rot in prison, or so Lauren thought. The Book starts out with Jon Walker (the Bayou Butcher) escaping from Prison- and he does it by any means necessary. He starts his reign of terror to take down those people who put him away for the last 5 years.

US Marshal Anthony Ross has been placed on the case again to hunt him down and take him back to prison as he had done the first time years ago. Anthony and Lauren's paths cross again and old feelings and hurt come to the surface, but above all else Anthony wants to protect Lauren and Lauren wants the Butcher caught. There are lots of twists and turns and as always- the author had me until the very end. I seriously had two different suspects and then WHAM! Shocker, I was not right, I love being thrown off the track. It makes this all so much more real why the jobs of the FBI profilers, marshals, and DA are so hard to nail people down for these crimes. The author also doesn't sugar coat the crimes, they are real, messy, and tragic. This makes me engrossed into these books anymore and Fear for Me is no different. We are treated to several characters who have their own story coming and I have already pre-ordered it because I can not wait. There is reference to the Anthony's time hunting the Valentine killer prior to him being assigned to the Bayou Butcher so I picked up that book as well. I can't give anymore away because it would ruin the plot, but hold onto your seats be prepared for the ride and enjoy yet another Cynthia Eden masterpiece.

This honest review was done in exchange for an ARC. THANK YOU:

Cynthia Eden

“Love could be twisted for some” and “love could be dark and dangerous and perfect for others.” In this dark and twisted tale of a killer called the Bayou Butcher who wields a knife with no remorse we follow the trail of bodies along with some familiar faces from the previous book.
Five years ago ADA Lauren Chandler and US Marshal Anthony put the Bayou Butcher behind bars for life. At the time Anthony also walked away from Lauren after getting scared that their romance was bordering on obsession on his part. When the Butcher escapes from prison Anthony knows just where he is going, back to Baton Rouge to kill those who put him in jail with Lauren at the top of the list. Lauren is now a DA and hasn’t forgiven Anthony for breaking her heart 5 years ago, but when the Butcher’s first kill is someone close to her she knows she needs both his protection and skills to get him back into custody before he wracks up the body count again.

As usual the author shocks us with the gruesomeness of the both the killings and the killer. I’ve also come to expect tons of surprises. Don’t even think you know what’s going on cause a twist will be thrown in and then your back to wondering..

All aspects of this book blended perfectly from the tracking down of the Butcher that includes help from FBI agents Kyle McKenzie and Cadence Hollow (who are the couple in the next book), the romance, and the suspense on who was next on the Butchers list and why they were on that list. I love this series and look forward to the next sick and twisted killer that is sure to be in Scream for Me.

OH MY GOD!!! I got an ARC! I am so freaking excited to start this one! Yeahhhhhh!!!!

**ARC courtesy of the author via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**

Cynthia Eden can write Romantic Suspense like no other. I love her books!! When I saw this one floating around my Goodreads feed I NEEDED to read this book! My favorite book setting is the South, especially Louisiana and when I saw this was about a serial killer; set in the Bayou, called the Bayou Butcher I knew it was for me and that I would love it. I did. I was sooooo lucky to be given the opportunity to read it before its publication date, thank you! As always, I had my suspects but was still guessing up until the very end. How she does that just blows my mind!! Her suspense is always just that, very suspenseful but her ability to intertwine a beautiful romance into a scary, mystery is brilliant. They mesh and never overshadow the other; the romance just flows with the story and is always the perfect amount of heat and angst. I loved the past that these two characters had. I loved watching them getting reacquainted and realizing who they were to each other all the while being scared and on the edge of my seat trying to figure out whodunit! If she writes it I want to read it. Another perfectly written Romantic Suspense from Cynthia Eden. Read.

Review will be posted at www.books-n-kisses.com .

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 1/2
REVIEW:
5 years.
5 years he has waited.
5 years he has planned and today is the day that he will finally get his revenge on those who put him here.

This was a disturbingly good story. I have often said that the mind of a suspense author is a very scary place to be. Cynthia Eden has proven that again with Fear For Me. If you have read Die For Me: A Novel of the Valentine Killer, you will see a few familiar names in Fear For Me. But if you have not read Die For Me yet, I would suggest that you do. Fear For Me my hold a spoiler.
I really enjoyed this book and the twists and turns made me a little afraid to close my eyes and try to sleep. While I feel a little strange saying that I can’t wait for Cynthia's next serial killer. I am looking forward to Scream For Me (Feb 4, 2014)
