Rate this book
Leaping into overnight marriage and motherhood, Sarah Jane Parker found herself wed to first-class "catch" Ash Morgan. But would he give her his stamp of approval—or would he try to send her back when the hidden truth about her came out?

"Marryin' man" Ash Morgan would really rather retire his title, yet he knew his tomboy daughter needed a mama. Besides, a docile little wife from back East might be a welcome change. But mail-order bride Sarah Jane Parker was proving to be a surprise package of passion, wit...and iron will.

National bestselling author Millie Criswell didn't start out to be a writer. Instead, she had aspirations of joining the Rockettes as a toe-tapping member of their dancetroop, or tapping her heart away in one of those big, corny MGM musicals. Of course she was only ten at the time, had absolutely no talent as a dancer, and cannot be blamed for her failure to succeed.

To date, Ms. Criswell has written twenty-one historical, category, and contemporary romances. She has won numerous awards, including the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award, the Reviewers' Choice Award, the National Reader's Choice Award, and the coveted MAGGIE Award from Georgia Romance Writers.

Ms. Criswell resides in Virginia with her husband of thirty-two years. She has two grown children, both lawyers, and one neurotic Boston terrier

This was like porn-movie acting without the porn. Premise of the story is good, the dialogue is unbelievable.

I haven't read a lot of historical romances, but this was definitely the steamiest romance novel I've yet encountered, regardless of sub-genre. Probably not very historically accurate, though, and the whole reason I tend towards historical romance rather than contemporary is because I like the possibility of being able to learn something.

After two short marriages, Ash Morgan doesn't want another wife. But his uncle has taken it upon himself to send for a mail-order bride, saying that Ash's eleven year old daughter needs a mother. Deciding a docile wife from a finishing school may be what his daughter needs, Ash goes to the train station to meet Sarah Jane Porter. He is immediately smitten.

Hellion Sarah Jane would do anything to get out from under the tutelage of Miss Dorthea Cartwright's finishing school. So, she answers a letter requesting a woman to fill the role of docile wife and mother. Ash is in for a surprise when he gets to know his new wife.

This first half of this story was amusing. Sarah is very naive and blunt, sometimes shocking her new husband. The second half became predictable with nothing new in the story. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Not many authors know how to take two individuals that are hiding things from one another and make it an interesting read. Millie Criswell did just that.

Ashby and Sarah Jane meet each other but have secrets. Ashby's Uncle Zeke plays matchmaker and thinks that Sarah Jane Parker is just the right woman for Ashby. But is she? Ashby thinks two marriages were enough. But with Uncle Zeke involved, they are married almost immediately.

They have to come to terms with the feelings each of them has towards the other and raising Ashby's daughter, Addie. With just the right amount of tension and an interesting storyline, it makes for a pleasant book.
