After his mother's death, he entered the novitiate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in June 1822. His first attempt at seminary ended due to illness, but, after his father's death, he was admitted to the major seminary in Grenoble. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Grenoble on July 20, 1834.
In 1839, he joined the Marists, the Society of Mary, and worked as a spiritual advisor for seminarians and priests. In 1845, he was named Provincial Superior of the Society of Mary.
He founded two communities dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament: the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, in 1856, and - with the encouragement of John Vianney, the Cure d'Ars - the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, in 1858.
He was declared venerable in 1908, beatified by Pope Pius XI on 12 July 1925, and canonized by Pope John XXIII on 9 December 1962. Pope John Paul II named Eymard "Apostle of the Eucharist".
Beautiful enlightening book about our mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Not only did the daily meditations, authored by my favorite saint St. Peter Julian Eymard, bring me closer to Jesus through the life and example of His mother, but they also enlightened my understanding of the historical times in which the Incarnate Word came to save us all.
After the daily meditations, don't stop reading! Continue the second part, which explains the motives for devotion to Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is rich and informative with citations from the early Church fathers and saints.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will re-read it each May. I am sure that each reading will reveal new insights and understanding.
An incredible book with 31 days of meditations on Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, especially suitable for the month of May. It will undoubtedly increase your devotion to her and make you fall even more in love with she who is our hope and joy. The Apostle of the Eucharist, St Peter Julian Eymard is not only a champion of the Eucharist and St Joseph, but most certainly of Our Lady as well.
I worked through this lovely little book as a devotion to the Virgin Mary during her month of May. The back of the book has a nine day novena that I then prayed the first nine days of June, along with a litany at the very end of this little volume. Many times I was able to do this in front of the Blessed Sacrament that is the ideal place to read these reflections and say the prayers.
Each day has about three to four short pages to read and reflect upon. Often, the end of each day has an edifying story of miracles or healings attributed to Our Lady.
A beautiful way to honor the Mother of God. From a saint of the Eucharist. Pick it up if you can find it. You will be blessed.
I love all the books in the Eymard Library! This past month spent with meditations on the Blessed Mother in light of the Blessed Sacrament was very fruitful. I highly recommend it!
