With his Royal Navy commission in hand, Richard Delancey is posted to Gibraltar to command the sloop Merlin for convoy protection in the Mediterranean. Overcoming problems with his crew, Delancey quickly proves his mettle during the siege of Valletta and during the battle at Cadiz.

The Adventure Continues…………… The fourth novel in the series continues with stellar storytelling , full of historical detail. Our hero grows as a captain and as a leader of men. At times the story gets deep into the details of sailing ships, made of wood, at war on the high seas. It can be a daunting task for a reader without knowledge of the finer points of sail. This series continues with excellent storytelling, fine details of history of the period and a lead character you want to care about. Touch & Go is a great read.
This is a good read about the British navy during the Napoleonic wars. Unfortunately my brother in law sent me only this one which is the fourth in a series. Worth looking for the earlier books in the series. Takes place in Gibraltar and Malta, thereby reprising some of the other series that I have been reading. This book deals with the period when Spain has joined in on the side of France.
I picked this up as a result of a mention in the Gun Room Group. I really have to stretch to give it 3 stars. 2 1/2 is more like it. It is really a notch of two below any of the Hornblower books and far below any of the Aubrey-Maturin series. It is technically very accurate. The author was a noted naval historian. But the characterizations are too stolid and simplistic. The hero Commander Delancey is quite a dull fellow. I would put it roughly on a par with the Alexander Kent books, but worth reading for die hard nautical historical fiction buffs.
