Autumn hasn’t even begun to deal with the fallout from the Solstice Party when she is dealt another blow, courtesy of the one person she is starting to trust above all others: Holt Roth himself.

Now she’s left to enjoy the rest of her summer on her own. Alone, that is, until something sinister washes up on the shores of Castleton. Autumn doesn’t know what’s going on, but it soon becomes clear that her life is in danger and the Fairies, led by Samuel, will have to come together to help her, whether she likes it or not.

It was Ok i did not like how it ended. I wish there would have been more developement on august and Samuel's relatonship, i wish the author would have gave them time and let them fall in love, because he never realy had a chance with Holt stepping in his place right from the begining

I thought that this one was okay. It wasn't great but it wasn't horrible either. I didn't really enjoy all of the moping and wining. in the end, it sort of reminds me of the Twilight series. The first book is all good and the girl ends up happy after a big fight and then in the second book, the male character leaves and then the girl becomes unhappy and falls back to the second guy and once the first guy returns, the second guy is ignored and yada yada yada. I almost felt bad for Samuel and I find that I don't really like Holt as a character. I am very interested in seeing what goes on between Samuel and Susan but I doubt that we will see that. The plot was interesting and keep me entertained (besides the wining and complaining). The idea of a Water Sprite was a creative one and I totally didn't image the person who invited it to Maine, to do so.

I love this story and sincerely hope there is another book in this series to come! I need to know what happens now! ;-)

This was a well written story with endearing characters that I really wanted to learn more about. There is a love triangle...sort of...but not in a bad way. I really wanted Autumn and Holt to be together but was definitely open to find out what could happen with Samuel.

Loved it! Maddy Edwards is definitely one of my new fave writers.

Summer Fairies, Winter Fairies, Water Sprites and a teenaged girl caught in the middle of an emotional tug-of-war, what's not to like? A well-written plot with very likable characters. Great ending!

In One Black Rose, I found similarities with Twilight, I must say I was scared when this book started and Autumn was moping around.

Thankfully, it got better, and she decided to take charge of her happiness, but that was a close call.

However, the similarities end here. The rest is really just a fae story. Very enjoyable.

Oh and that ending! I expected part of it, but there was a twist that totally took me by surprise. A good surprise.

Autumn in the middle

As mean and nasty as they are, I like the Cheshire girls- they keep things interesting. I'm curious about Mrs. Fritters though- her behavior is just odd.

Holt left to protect everyone but Autumn is still in danger thanks to a distant cousin of the fairies called the water sprites. Can Holt come back to protect her? Will Samuel be able to protect her too? Great read.

It's like Twilight with fairies. Reasonably predictable, but nonetheless compelling.

Finally! I got a hold of this book. I've been searching for this for a long time. It's not really a famous series, but I just can't stop until I finally know what happen to Autumn, Holt and Samuel.

I mentioned before that One Black Rose is so similar on Twilight Saga. Well, except for the fairies of course, but the happenings in the book was so much alike Twilight. And this is still my claim for this book. Book 2 means New Moon. And what's that? Yep! Holt is gone. :( I'm dreading the read once I found out that Holt left Castleton to keep Autumn and his family safe from the brooding war-- the war that could be caused by Holt and Autumn's feelings for each other. Though it's sad not to read a lot about Holt (I missed him as well !) there are lot of things happening that could occupy my mind. Like the water sprite, the mystery of Samuel and Susan, Nick and Carley and lots of things. Sadly, Autumn just can't stop feeling blue without Holt which almost got in my nerve...almost!

Although the love triangle surrounding Autumn, Holt and Samuel was not that strong in book 1 because of the assured words of Autumn that it's Holt that she loves, here in book 2, doubt is starting to creep on me. There's really something between Samuel and Autumn. How could they not?! They're the one supposed to be together! But I didn't had the chance to know Samuel much. The story is more focused on what's going on around the characters that the characters themselves are left behind. I wasn't able to get through the characters, no specific details about them, reasons behind their actions and who they really are. For example, Samuel. Throughout the book, he's been there for Autumn, protecting and and caring for her. You'll know he's feeling something about her. But you'll never have the chance to explore that thought, because Samuel seems always far away, fay away from your grasp to fully understand him. All we know is that he's always there to save Autumn. Then there's Susan. She's nice, yes. That's given. But that's all, we never have the chance to know what her actions are all about. Then there's Holt. She loves Autumn, ready to face war just to be with her. But I want to know more how much she loves her. I never had the chance :( But that's ok. Because at some part, it adds to the mystery to keep us reader going.

I love the ending. I love how the story went and what happened. But I feel like it's vague, lacking of details. The whole story is vague actually. I'm so loving the story that it doesn't bother me, but this book has a great potential that if the words and writings are improved more, it would be such a greater book as it is.

In the 2nd installment of the One Black Rose series we see the aftermath of the fight from the party. Everything is still on hold with Samuel & Holt. They are both still uncertain what they need to do with the situation. August is suppose to marry Samuel no matter what but if she is attracted to both Holt & Samuel what happens? Is destiny really for her to marry Samuel? Fate is telling a different story.

August & Holt have strong feelings for one another that they are trying to understand while also trying not to hurt Samuel in the process. Was Samuel telling the truth when he told August that he did not want her? Here you see Samuel really caring for August in his own Winter way & August begins to have a friendship with Samuel, actually enjoying his company. She starts to question her feelings for Holt & struggles with the important question of is it really destiny.

Now the summer is ruined because there is something causing trouble in the water. Girls are disappearing & the Fairy's feel that it is supernatural. Both the Roth's & Cheshire's come together to stop this being that is trespassing on their territory. The fairy's feel as if this supernatural being is targeting August & now everyone must protect her & those close to her.

I love the ending of the book but of course it is a cliffhanger so I am starting book #3 tomorrow.

GAHHH - I devoured this book in one day (less than 24 hours) and I need more already! As with the first book, the story is littered with thoughtful observations that are somewhat cliche, but still true, and laced with humorous moments. Plus there's all the emotional stuff :).

If you're a fan of the first book, or Maddy Edwards, or YA in general, this is a must read - though this is definitely one of those series where you have to read the previous book to understand what is going on. It still has romance, a love-triangle, friends, enemies, Faeries, lots of mystery, and a few other surprises. The ending is a big cliff hanger, too - you have been warned!

I found more minor editing errors in this book (than the previous book): incorrect word, missing punctuation, etc, but overall I definitely enjoyed the book. For some reason I didn't like this book as much as the first one...probably because 1) there was only one major problem/obstacle in this book, and it dragged on and felt repetitive after awhile, and 2) Holt's reappearance made no sense whatsoever. Still, a great read and I'm happy with my purchase!

This is definitely a series to look out for....SO GOOD! This 2nd installment in the One Black Rose Series was in my opinion better than the 1st. Continuing after the heartbreak at the end of the last book, this one started off with a bang. Holt is MIA and Samuel is left to attempt to pick up the pieces. (I am secretly rooting for him...a little) I loved the humor in this book as well as the new character developments. More boy drama-of course (delectably good), some new players, and a betrayal that rocks everyones already fragile world. Oh and don't get me started on the ENDING....... What am I going to do until the next book comes out???? (I guess I will cross my fingers and do the pee pee dance waiting...oh so impatiently)

Amazing fruit! I didn't think this series could get any better, but then it does. She's so set on Holt, yet she can't hide the feelings she's getting with Samuel around. I read impatiently hoping for a choice, but not sure who I liked better.

Then Holt goes and does something unthinkable and Autumn is left with Samuel to pick up the pieces. She's in danger and only the fairies can keep her safe.

The fairies fight dirty and it was intriguing to read how devious they were. This book was full of twists and turns all the way to the last page. I couldn't wait to read the third in the series, just to see what happened.

I highly recommend this awesome series for anyone who loves a great YA paranormal romance. It was stellar in my book and I give it five glittery stars!

In August, book 2 of One Black rose, Holt is gone and Autumn is withdrawn. However, the relationship between her and Samuel seems to be thawing a bit. I think you can tell that Samuel is in love with Autumn but won't say anything because he knows Autumn loves Holt. Sam only wants Autumn to be Happy. Holts brother Logan is a jerk and ends up having fight with Holt throwing fairy magic at him but instead it ends up hitting Autumn. She is dying but Holt saves her by turning her into a fairy with the rose. I can't wait for the next book.

Okay so I finished the book. Here is the deal... There are pages missing and it is definitely in need of a good editor. However, that being said the story itself is such an improvement in writing than the first. The characters are still overly childish and the story is still....hmm..? I would guess the best word for this is sputtering. Yes. It sputters the characters need work ass does the story but it is still a good read.

I really want more chemistry between Samuel and Autumn. I feel like there is supposed to be a love triangle going on but I don't feel it at all. Also, Autumn feels really flat and boring to me. I can see the potential for this to be an amazing series; it's not far off, just some tweaking here and there. Here's hoping the third installment *assuming there is one* is better.

It was okay. I really thought she'd be with Samuel though. It undoubtedly reminded me of the Twilight series. Hmmm...not mind blowingly fantastic as the first book but it was fine. Too short maybe or maybe it went too fast, seemed a bit rushed too.

Need the next one right now! Need to find out what happens next. Off to read :)

i don't think i could ever finish this book. i probably shouldn't have read the reviews of this and book 3. this is why i don't like love triangles in a story. i liked samuel from the start and i agree with one reviewer that the author should've given autumn and samuel more time to fall in love. i usually finish a book even though i don't like it, but no this one.

I really liked this book :) i really enjoyed it which kinda surprised me what with the ending of the first book. I just hate that when I get to he end of the books I'm always saying "it ended!!??" I can't wait for the next one (which I'm hoping there is!) to see how that situation worked out! :D

More whining and annoyances but added moping and feeling sorry for herself over a guy. No thanks. Read this in 2 hours because I wanted it to be over with. Then more naive behavior then stupidity and it was over
