Deposits and assets jumped from $5 million to $116 million as Chuck Ripka, a Minnesota banker, started a faith at-work movement in his hometown. What happens when we take God out of the box? In the marketplace, that answer is incomprehensible and the boundaries are limitless! When Chuck Ripka read the scripture that promised believers would do even greater things than Jesus, he signed on. And today it’s happening. By simply doing faithfully what God tells him to do, he has experienced a stream of miracles that are transforming his hometown area, Elk River, Minnesota. He has been interviewed in countries all around the world, and his story was in New York Times Magazine in 2004. God Out of the Box persuades readers that miracles still happen and teaches them truths that will help them grow in faith and expect miracles in their own lives!
I'm extremely leery of books on the topic of God in business (where some authors take theological liberties in my opinion), but found this book particularly refreshing. Although most of the stories he tells (it's really a book of stories) take place at work, it's not really about business, but about how God interacts with people in real life circumstances. That God chooses to interact with people today, and become involved in their lives is always amazing to me.
This book lived up to its title: God stories that are out of the box and make you a little uncomfortable. I admired Chuck's trust in God and His simple, unwavering, obedience, even when God asked really big things from him. While there were some things that stretched my mind a bit, I finished this book feeling inspired to pursue God in my every day life.
An easy, compelling read. The author grew up in Melrose, MN and largely writes about Elk River and the northern twin cities area -- typical midwest towns . So I found it especially interesting to hear one man's stories of God miraculously moving in his life and the town(s) where he lived and worked.
