Ours to Love

Rate this book
Between two brothers…

Xander Santiago spent years living it up as a billionaire playboy. Never given a chance to lead his family business in the boardroom, he became a master in the bedroom instead. His older brother, Javier, inherited the company and worked tirelessly to make it an empire. But while cutthroat corporate espionage took its toll on Javier, nothing was as devastating as the seemingly senseless murder of his wife. It propelled him into a year of punishing rage and guilt…until Xander came to his rescue.

Comes an irresistible woman…

Eager to rejuvenate Javier’s life, Xander shanghais him to Louisiana, where they meet beautiful London McLane. After a decade of tragedy and struggle, London is determined to make a fresh start—and these sexy billionaire brothers are more than willing to help. In every way. London is stunned to find herself open to every heated suggestion…and desperately hoping that her love will heal them.

And inescapable danger.

But a killer is watching, on a single-minded mission to destroy everything the Santiago brothers hold dear, especially London. As fear and desire collide, every passionate beat of her heart could be her last.

London was in a horrible accident as a teen, a car accident that left her in a coma for two years and when she finally recovered, she was told she’d never walk again, never live a normal life. She worked hard for years and proved all the doctors wrong and after undergoing multiple surgeries that’s left her lower back covered in scars, she’s walking and aside from having random blackouts that she takes medication for, she’s ready to start living her life again. She’s living with her cousin Alyssa and ends up getting her first job with Javier, a man who drowns himself in vodka every night and is one drink away from killing himself.

London also meets Xavier, Javier’s younger brother, and within moments of seeing London dancing, Xavier wants her. She’s a virgin and wants to fully live (and to do that she needs sex I guess) and they end up fooling around but never have sex. It doesn’t stop Xavier from wanting her and when he finds out that Javier is also having naughty thoughts about his new assistant, Xavier sees this as way for he and his brother to mend their fragile relationship and for them to both have London. The brothers have been at odds for years ever since Javier demanded that Xavier be a Dom to his then wife Francesca. Javier and Francesca had a loveless marriage and Javier thought that she needed a strong hand and wanted Xavier to handle her. He refused, the brothers fought and Francesca ended up being murdered. Javier blames himself, he blames Xavier and he’s slowly drinking himself to death and as a result, the family company is failing as well. Xavier has his own set of problems, trying to fill a void in his life he uses sex. A lot of sex. Like he’s had thousands of women…thousands. So we have a drunk Javier, man-whore Xavier and London, the insecure virgin they both want.

I had issues with this book from the start. London is so shy, so insecure and because of the accident and her injuries she’s inexperienced. There is no way I could believe that this woman would, within seconds of meeting each brother separately, impact them the way she does. With one look at her, each brother wants her naked, spanked and submitting to them. She makes Javier give up the drinks, she makes Xavier not want to sleep around anymore, they are all in and committed to her. Just like that. And I didn’t buy it or get it at all.

The sex scenes are about what you’d expect with this series. However in the past, the sex felt over the top but still hot. Here, it just came across as over the top. I mean she’s a virgin for crying out loud and sleeps with both brothers during their first night together. There was plenty of “next!” going on in the bedroom that night.

There’s a slight suspense storyline that pulls in Francesca’s killer and ties that in with Xavier and Javier’s business. The bad guy wants Javier to suffer and now that means London is put in danger. This ended up feeling like a very small part to the overall story, even though it does put London’s life in danger, it played out in the background until the final fight at the end. It wasn’t something that had me on the edge of my seat.

Books in the Wicked Lovers series tend to either be hits or misses for me and not a lot of in between. This was definitely a miss. I didn’t buy into the relationship. Even though I expected some crazy sexcapades, it felt weird with two brothers and London just didn’t come across as a strong heroine. At least strong enough to keep up with the brothers and I still can’t understand how she magically made the brothers straighten up as soon as they met her. Also, I’ve left my biggest pet peeve for last: the story takes place over the course of a week. Meeting - to I love you - to marriage talk in a week? Rarely, if ever, does that work for this reader. Not much else worked for me with this story and it’s one in the series I’d definitely recommend passing on.

Ours to Love didn't live up to the previous Wicked Lovers series. Xander, when he made an appearance in an earlier book, was a dream. A to die for sexy, alpha, who was a womanizing billionaire who was handsome as sin and just as charming. In Ours to Love, I did not like him at all. The heroine, London, captured my sympathies to a point, then she just became nauseating to me. Add in the tortured, alcoholic older brother, Javier and you have a menage a mess.
There's just so much about this book that I didn't like.
I enjoy Shayla's writing and the Wicked Lover's series but Ours to Love just didn't do it for me. And here's some examples of how this story doesn't work

DNF

This series has been hit or miss for me all along. The last two books I really enjoyed but this one is a definite miss. Heroine is a 25 year old virgin now ready to give it up to any man that will give her enough attention so she can spread her legs and both brothers are immature douchebags. One is a drunk wallowing in grief and blaming the other brother for his wife's death the other is a 5000+ partner mile-high playboy. Both end up wanting the heroine. I could care less about the plot when I can't connect with any of the characters. I digress after the last quote:

"London being alone with Javier would only bother you if you thought she was interested in your brother, too."

"It doesn't matter." Xander shook his head. "I saw her first."

"That's mature," Luc pointed out.

That felt like a "that's my toy and you can't have it" moment with a jealous child and on that note I'm done.

Ok, I liked this one way more than I should have.

Why you ask?
The story is unbelievable and the dialogue is often bad.

BUT Shayla Black writes really good characters who I want to know more about and even though the ending was predictable for anyone who has read the books in this series (gorgeous yet dangerous and brilliant men are the targets of a plot that ends up putting the heroine in danger. And oh yes, she is naturally submissive and they are DOMS who are shocked at the honesty and beauty of her natural submission so therefore THEY MUST HAVE HER. NOW. ALWAYS. FOREVER. But they neglect to tell her that and they push her too hard and too fast so she runs off.) No really, go back and think about it - many of these books have that exact formula.

In this one, we have the lovely, young, inexperienced but wanting to finally live her life, London. She was in a tragic car accident that robbed her of many things. She has come to love with her cousin Alyssa and her husband Luc in Lafeyette. Alyssa owns a strip club. London lets herself in and begins to do a strip tease to an empty house. OR SO SHE THINKS. Xander is watching her in the dark and HE MUST HAVE THIS BEAUTY.

Next we meet his much darker brother Javier who spends his time at the bottom of vodka bottles. Ciroc to be exact as we are told over and over again. Xander has dragged him to Lafeyette to get him clean and sober before he kills himself as he tries to drown his guilt over the murder of a wife he never cared for let alone loved.

It just so happens he needs an assitant and London needs a job. BAM. And just like that he hires her and HE MUST HAVE HER TOO. SHE MAKES HIM WANT TO LIVE AGAIN.

See, I should really not like this book, but I can't help myself. I want to know what happens and the sex is hot and I am jealous of London even though I'm not entirely sure what any of these characters look like. But I am sure Xander and Javier are total hotties.

There were some truly great moments, because like I said Shayla Black writes good characters. Even though I think much of this story is completely unbelievable I really did like how she dealt with London's greatest fear and what her men did to help her get past it. Well, I liked what they did the 2nd time. They totally effed it up the 1st time which is why London ran from them. But hey, it wouldn't be a romance book if someone didn't run at some point.

Three is fun, but it's definitely a crowd.

Was there über hot sex? Yes.
Did I get everything I wanted for my favorite playboy Xander? Hell NO!

I'm definitely a girl who thinks ménage is hot, two hot sexy Latin lovers? Sign me up now! However, I'm always left with the feeling of frustration when the relationship ends up triad relationship. One woman being in love with two men, starting a family & living happily ever after just doesn't work in the real world. I had hoped for London to end up with one then the other brother's story continue to another book. Bummer.

It all comes down to this. I like stories that are realistic. A happily ever after between a woman and two brothers isn't very believable to me and had hoped for a lot more with this book.

WTF?!?! How is it that the paperback version of this book is ONE DOLLAR more than the Kindle Edition? Dunno about you, but I find that pretty ridiculous. I could've lived without paying the money i paid for this book & skipped reading it all together.

Ours to Love (Wicked Lovers, Book 7) by Shayla Black is the much anticipated story of Xander Santiago, his brother Javier and London McLane. True to her writing abilities, Miss Shayla once again delivers a great story.

Xander and Javier are two brothers, who grew up together, but are virtual strangers. Javier was groomed from an early age to take over the family business and not rely on his younger brother. I loved Javi from the moment I met him, even in his grumpy, stubborn drunkenness. There is just something so endearing to me about that man.

Although, I’ve always appreciated Xander in the previous books, I did not really care for him, especially in the beginning of this story. It was Logan who put it in perspective for me. Since I don’t do spoilers, I will only say that when you read this part, you’ll know what I’m talking about. My entire attitude towards Xander changed; I was not alone. I’m thankful that Logan saved the day… again!

We have these troubled men who seemingly have it all; then in walks London and she lit the place up! Of course, she has her own demons, but London is truly a good person. She offers her friendship and heart without reservation to these men in the hope of helping them heal. Although her experience in the world is limited, she is very smart and adapts quickly to what life throws at her.

That said, their first time together was 0 to 60 and all I could think was “no way”. Considering the entire situation (no spoilers, remember), it just seemed like too much. It took me a bit to process and move on.
One of the most touching scenes I have read in a long time was when London fully showed herself to Javi and Xander. It was beautifully written and it touched my heart. I absolutely loved how everything worked in the end.

What’s next for the Wicked Lovers? I have always loved Thorpe, tortured soul that he is. I cannot wait to meet this Tall, dark and blue-eyed Dom who is mentioned in the Thorpe/Callie story line. It all gives me shivers, of the good kind.

Ours to Love is a great addition to this fantastic series. If you have not read the Wicked Lovers Series yet, you must!! Start with book 1 (Wicked Ties) and work your way up. Great characters, great story lines by a phenomenal author!!

I really enjoyed this book. Shayla Black does ménage really well. I love that the heroine, London, though inexperienced and had a terrible history of an accident with a traumatic brain injury, was the strength that was needed to bring two brothers out of their dysfunction and misery.

Javier, drowning himself in misery and booze, and Xander drowning himself in women, are both taken by surprise when this unassuming, big hearted woman enters their life. At first they compete for her, but when Xander realizes that she may also be the only salvation his brother might have, he shares her. Especially considering her attraction to both brothers.

There's definitely a light and dark brother, one brooding and stormy and the other lighter and charming. Even though they had everything money could ask for, they never had the love and support that made them rich in the way London was. In return, they show her that despite scars and her "imperfect" body, her beauty shines through. That her strength and fortitude is something they aspire to and can't live without. Through London, the brothers reforge a bond long broken.

It's a great story of healing and love growing from the hurt life sometimes causes.

I really liked Xander and Javier. Then London, well everything that she has been through is a true testment to how strong she was, it wasn't an easy ride but it was worth while in the end. Xander we had met in the two books before Ours to Love and you know that he is a playboy but he loves his brother and wants to help him after what has happen to him. I was wondering what Shayla Black would do with this series after Tyler's books. With this book we were introduced to a few new characters that seems to be the direction of the series which I loved. I can't wait to see where she goes with it.

Whew 🥵. I don’t think I have ever read a book with that much smut. It was so drawn out too, but in a good way. I enjoyed this book a lot however, I wanted a little more plot mixed in there. It started at the beginning and then it was just thrown in there at the end. But if you are looking for a good palette cleanser then I highly suggest this book for sure.

I waited for over a year for this book! I LOVE Xander. After seeing him in Tyler's book, I expected more. I was completely let down. I agree that he lost who he was. I was excited that he found someone to love but instead he became the wingman! I'm hoping that this book was a prologue to him getting his own story! I hope I'm not disappointed any farther bc I really loved this series until this story.

so disappointing!! I really looked forward to this book and the characters. Reading this book I felt like someone else wrote this, not Shayla Black. the story was incredibly sappy. Xander totally loses his personality. just overall not a good book.

Ok I enjoyed this one too, I don’t know if I just needed to get in the swing of things with these books or what but I like this book.

Xander and Javier are really struggling. Xander wants to free his brother from his past but he doesn’t know how and Javier can’t forgive himself.

London comes into the picture and it throws both men into a tails spin I kinda loved that. I think the only thing I didn’t like was how long the scar’s thing got dragged out.

I am not 100% sold on brother being with 1 women it’s different for sure. Again great storyline to go with the love story very entertaining.

The narration was ok I really want Christian Fox to narrate again that was awesome.

I love Shayla Black I love this series although my fav is Belong to me it was good to read about Xander and learn why he was the way he was. But for some reason this book didn't touch me like the others. I thought that Xander should have had a better story. Javier has been demoralized by his awful, dead ex-wife. Now his company is in danger and his life is spiraling out of control. His playboy brother, Xander is concerned. But when Javier visits the Sexy Sirens he spies the delectable London. London is sweet and vulnerable. He hires her and she turns his whole life around. With her by his side, he finds purpose and the strength to wrestle back power and self confidence. But his playboy brother is also interested in London, too. Is Javier willing to share? London is trying to start a new life after tragedy strikes her. She wants to show others and herself that she can stand on her own two feet and create a life of purpose. She can't believe that these two sexy men want her. But can she handle them both? It seems like so much of the story is missing some important details, I had high hopes for Xander going into this book but he just came across like he is weak. I love the other books in this series. Logan, Jack remain my favorites.

OH, I can't wait for this story! We've already met Xander and we already know that London is 'sweet' as Alyssa described so it will be a very interesting match! Can't wait!

04/26/13 .. UUUUGGGHHHHHH....I'm SOOOOOOOo disappointed I didn't win 1 out of the 25 copies being given away by Goodreads. This series cost a fortune to buy so far and was soooooo looking forward to one of my best authors. I guess another couple months of waiting won't hurt!

05/25/13 ... The day has FINALLY come to read this book! I have been waiting for Xander's story since the moment we met him many books ago, and this did NOT disappoint. I absolutely loved ALL of them! Xander's approach to London was sooooo heart-warming and wrenching at the same time. And the way London just opened Javier up to heal was also just over the moon for me. I knew it would be a good story when i reached Chapter 3 or 4 and was already crying! The only tiny little flaw in the story is the happily ever after we got. Not realistic in real life. I won't tell you exactly why, you'll just have to read it for yourself....

I don't know who's next but I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Love it!!!!!!!!

Let me start by saying I love this series. Love all the characters though at times I've wanted to knock some sense into them. I have love Xander since he was introduced. I have felt his agony over his brother, Javier. To say I had high hopes for this story would be an understatement.

So no one is more surprised than me to say that I was disappointed. And it's not because it is a triad. I could easily accept that. It's that I don't believe this story for Xander. One on one I could believe he and London together. Add Javier to the mix and it just falls flat for me. Maybe they'll grow on me as they are shown in future books.

Anyways, I still love this series and will continue reading the books. Hopefully the next one won't disappoint.

Hasta que he leído 'Ours to Love'.

Me equivocaba.

I love Shayla and her writing and Wicked Lovers is one of my favorite series so it really bothered me that I couldn't give it a higher star rating. Several aspects within the story didn't sit well and though it is fiction, I still need to buy into it and feel connected, and sadly I never did.

However, I still enjoy her writing style and will continue with the series.
