After I received a transfer student who was using this series, I decided to switch which beginner series I was using. I've inspected a number of beginner piano series, and I really like this one the best. My daughter prefers it over Bastien. I LOVE the slow, meticulous pace. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. And if you have an older beginner, they have a series for that too. This book goes through the beginner essentials: legato vs. staccato, the note names, different intervals, rests, accidentals, and even some basic theory about chords. The theory, technique, and performance books are a must, and there are numerous other supplemental books for any interest imaginable. Really excellent.

When I bought this book, I didn't realize it was written for kids. However, I learned a lot from it. Combined with YouTube videos explaining each song, it got me on my way to playing.

This is not a "read for pleasure" book, but since it was on Goodreads I thought I'd rate it. I teach all my piano students with this book (after they finish one, or three, of the Faber primers) and I love it.

I played as a child and needed a book that would be a little more than a refresher. This book explains the keys very well plus it gets you started on playing some tunes.
