Miller's Church History by no means falls under the category of an objective account of ecclesiastical history. Rather, Andrew Miller looks at the history of the Church of God from the subjective lens of the Bible itself, in an attempt to show what the Lord (and Satan) have been doing in the Church throughout the last 1900 years. The prophetic nature of Revelation 2-3 is brought to light, corresponding perfectly with the history of the Church. This book brought me to tears on several occasions. You can't help sorrowing in light of the damage Satan produced in the Lord's bride; persecuting her under the tyrannical reign of the caesars, usurping her under the cruel reign of popery, and dividing her under the obstinate opinions of the reformers. While I cannot recommend this book enough for a biblical understanding of the first 1600 years of Church History, I was slightly disappointed in the brief explanation of the next 300 years, for it was brief, vague, and questionable in many ways (which is understandable given the difficulty of speaking concerning the present situation that you are living in, for it is alway easier to look back and describe something when you weren't directly involved in). Regardless, all serious Christians need to read this book.
