Fans of the Hawkman series will enjoy this latest installment. The two central character, Hawkman and his wife, Jennifer, are well-defined and for many readers have become like old friends that we are eager to visit again. Jennifer is as feisty as ever and it is her friendship with Beth Hutchinson and her son, Randy, that leads the couple into their latest mystery. Despite the fact that Beth's husband, Jeb, points a gun at her every time she goes up to the cabin the family lives in, Jennifer does not back down. That's my kind of lady.
The story of what happens to the Hutchinson family when they disappear is a good one, and it is always fun to follow Hawkman as he sorts out another mystery and tries to keep himself and Jennifer alive in the process.
What kept me from giving a four-star rating was the fact that some of the plot elements happened too easily, and there was a bit more telling than showing in some places of the narrative. The story seemed to skim across the surface and I wanted just a little more depth. For pure entertainment, skimming works. It lends itself to a quick, easy read.
