I think I was born to spend the rest of my life alone. I can't for the life of me, find a spouse. Jilted on my wedding day, I land myself in a private night club. I run into the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Her name is Kade Greystone. She's not only beautiful, but filthy rich and a real MEAN girl . She takes pity on me and gives me an incredible night of passion. I thought this was a one-night stand. But now she's saying I'm her fated mate... My one-night stand with Kade will last an eternity. I love women, but I hate the patriarchy. I've spent a thousand years under this petulant rulership, and I've had first hand experience with the hole in men's hearts. They're never happy. Never satisfied. I spend my nights with my small coven, searching for a place to build a permanent home. I've been in Detroit two months, and I'm ready to leave, bored of this place, but when beautiful Leah walks into my nightclub, I suddenly want to stay. She captivates me in ways no woman ever has. So, I give her a taste of what true passion feels like. But there's one problem. She's awakened a 1,000-year-old dead heart. Leah's my mate. I've waited centuries for this woman, believing she didn't exist. I didn't know our curse was lifted. I'm bonded to this woman for eternity. I feel the pull to her, but she doesn't feel the same for me. I 've waited a 1,000 years for Leah. My expertise is patience. I'll wait a thousand more if that's what it takes.
The flow of this work is exceptionally choppy. It has a halfway decent premise with a fated mates trope for lesbians. However, the action sequence of events is very stilted, almost as if it jumps from scene to scene. There's no character depth at all, and there's barely any background on any of them. It makes it hard to connect or care for the story.
I was in the mood to read something short. I am becoming obsessed with Jenna Kent so I decided to read one of the books of hers that I had. (I hope that some of her books become physical because I would love to own Death Deal and see it on my bookshelf.
After being left at the altar, Leah is joined by her sister Ellie, who takes her to a nightclub. There she catches the eye of the bartender, whose name we find out in Kade. Kade is a 1,000 year old vampire who has been cursed not to feel her heartbeat until she finds her mate, only then will she be able to feel her heart again.
Kade rescues her from an aggressive man and they spend the night together. Leah has lived her life to please her mother and her sister Ellie. She has only cooked and cleaned so she does not have many job skills. In order to make rent, Ellie sells her sister to a businessman. (who is later tied to a table and killed). Kade rescues her and in an exchange with Kade, allowing her mother and Ellie to live, Leah must leave and stay with Kade. Time passes, Leah has no yet claimed Kade in the vampire sense, but they are married in a legal bound sense. With the found family of Andrew and Cami who refer to Kade as Mother sense so she is so much older than them. They take a liking to Leah right away.
I understand that in order for Leah to make a new life with Kade, her familiar ties with her mother and sister had to be severed but I did not like the way it happened. In the beginning of the story, her mother is verbally abusive to both Leah and Ellie for being gay. Because they are both kicked out, Ellie offers to allow Leah to stay with her. But when Leah gets aggressively attacked and almost kidnapped, Ellie is nowhere to be found. Then when Leah gets back home, Leah is with some guy and verbally abuses Leah herself. Like WTF. And her reasoning for almost getting her sister and herself killed is fucking stupid.
““Mother loved you more than me and I hated you for it; I wanted to make you feel how hard the world was for me." I want to gag again because of my mate's sympathy and understanding; such treachery doesn't deserve it! Leah pulls Ellie close, kissing her cheek and holding onto her for a moment before releasing her.” Where in the fuck did you get to that conclusion? I just really wanted someone else is Leah’s corner who wiped her tears when she was sad and someone that actually cared for her, that was one part of the found family she was going to become part of.
Leah was an okay character. She cries a lot which annoys me but that could have been because I cry alot and it reminds me of myself. With Leah being human and Kade a vampire (with some aspects of witch), Kade has to turn Leah into a vampire. Some people are not going to be happy about that for different reasons which will cause some friction for the couple to get through.
I had a suspicion that Kade being in danger or hurt would cause Leah to feel the pull necessary to claim Kade, which is what happens.
This reminds me of a fanfiction I would have either written or read when I was in high school. However I was upset when I found out that I was in the last chapter. I thought I had more but I read this pretty quick. This is the first book in the Fated Mates series. The next novel continues Leah and Kade’s story but after that I believe the characters change.
Now to decide what I am going to read next by Jenna Kent.

sapphic vampire novella? into it🤝🤝 Leah & Kade are fated mates, they were hot together. this isn’t the best writing but honestly it was a fun read so whatever. i’m excited for their next book!
Ya know. I feel like I'm giving most of these stars just because of sapphic vampires. This feels like it needs an editor. It is so choppy and all of the scenes feel mushed together. The wording doesn't make sense and feels all over the place. An early example is Kade first seeing Leah and thinking about her while thinking her name and then a when another character says Leah's name acting like it's the first shes heard it. It was an event trying to read this. With that being said will I continue the series? Yeah probably. It's a short quick read with gay vampires so why not.
I wanted to like this book so badly. I did. But when you read books by Radclyffe, Mardria Portuondo, Milena McKay, Harper Bliss, Melissa Brayden, Serenity Snow, Domina Alexandra, Heidi Lowe and etc., there is just no way that you can appreciate this type of writing and storytelling. It was rife with mistakes. She went from crying about a man that left her at the altar, her mother cursing her out, and her sister taking her to a new club right after, to meeting (the love of her life), to being on the dance floor accosted by some dude and then out of nowhere “the love of her life” has the guy in the air off his feet. The story had a good premise, but the execution was beyond what I believe the author could deliver. It was weird phrasing, fast paced, no backstory, and felt very shallow and pedestrian. I really wanted to get into the story and give it a chance. But it sort of read like a 6th graders book report.
"You're my mate Leah. You weren't born for anyone else; no woman nor man would have been able to make you feel this way--the attraction you have towards me is fated."
The chemistry between Kade and Leah was amazing. I adored them as a couple. I'm rating 4 stars because some of the book made absolutely no sense to me. Maybe it was just me reading into things wrong, but some parts just felt like they didn't fit.
Overall though, the spice and the romance were so good. I really did enjoy this book.
This is kind of like Twilight, but with lesbians and no chance of there being a stupid vampire baby. It does the insta-love trope which is really not my thing, but I still managed to have a good time reading it. Kade is a thousand year old vampire who is cursed to not have a beating heart until she finds her one true mate. She lives in a nightclub with her chosen vampire family Andrew and Cami. Leah's blood family is abusive and cruel to her, so Kade rescues her. I plan on reading the rest of this and other series by Jenna Kent.
Great start to the series! I have been searching for a lesbian paranormal romance for a bit now, and im so glad I found this long series!
I really enjoy Kade's forceful ways and how nothing will stop her from being with/claiming Leah, even being pretty manipulative toward Leah herself and forcing certain events to happen. Leah seems to move on fairly quickly from Kade's manipulations, and tbh so would I if I was with hawty bo-body Kade, lol 🥵🥵🥵 I look forward to reading more!
Oooh im most definitely hooked on this series. Action and intense emotions is what draws our MC's into this beautiful love story. This is the 1st book of Jenna that i have read, and cant wait to start the rest. Definitely my kind of author. Giving it a 10, well deserved and outstanding storyline.
Wow, this book was so interesting and had me hooked. Having a vampire girlfriend sounds hilarious and slightly terrifying in this case. There were a few punctuation errors, and I think the story glazed over certain things too quickly, but otherwise, I had reading about Kade and Leah.
True to the authors word it was over the top but I lowkey really enjoyed it. Great book to read if you like lesbians and need a book to keep your mind of your life. Entertaining, interesting and has its funny moments. 👍❤️
Stood up at the alter because the groom knows you are lesbian. What a start to journey if finding a new girlfriend. Now she's fallen for the hot vampire
Wowza what a great start to this series, hot sex scenes, drama, action scenes and supernatural’s. The intense emotions lead to the MC and a beautiful love story.
