This series has been a light and escapist read. While there is some tension within the relationships of the couples, there is some humor, action/adventure, suspense and romance. Most of the books center on marriages in trouble because the H's are secret agents who are married. Most are separated on the verge of divorce because of the lies, long absences, the wives are targeted by the bad guys, etc. This one was no different. What I like is the different stories on how the couples reunite with the wives entering the husbands' world of super spies.
Staci Fields is deeply in love with her gorgeous husband. But that love, and her inability to lie nearly got her CIA agent husband killed on an earlier mission. Burdened by being the wife of a spy and afraid she might risk his life again, Staci’s filing for divorce—no matter how much her body aches for his touch…
Drew Fields is a good spy. And a great husband. But feels the strain his profession is having on his wife…and reluctantly agrees to step away. When he’s assigned to track Staci’s stepfather, who is pulling her into a secret plot with terrorists, he goes undercover as himself—loving husband to his sexy wife. It’s a dangerous game—the most dangerous he’s ever played—and the closer he gets again with his ex, the more he risks never seeing her again…
When you marry a spy, you know that the last thing you should ever do is tell someone that he is a spy. One careless slip created an avalanche for Staci that ruined her marriage to Drew and almost cost her, her life. Now Drew is back pulling Staci into another caper that brings them within kissing distance and Staci is not sure she can walk away this time.
There is trouble in Staci’s life that makes it so difficult to keep Drew at a distance even though she does not want to. Her mother is having worries over Staci’s stepfather and his weird behavior, so Staci decides playing Maxwell Smart sounds fun until she really stumbles onto the truth. Staci is determined to show everyone including her maybe, possibly, soon to be ex-husband that she can sneak around and lie like a professional. If she can stop blushing every time, it might work. Drew has his own ulterior motives for wanting to involve Staci in this investigation and all of them are personal and involve allot less clothing than they are wearing right now. Staci may push him away but Drew has the ability to pull her in.
When the action gets heated, the bad people come barreling down looking for a fight, and the nights get hotter than a firecracker someone is going to be burned. Drew is going to protect Staci regardless of what it takes or who tries to get in the way be it friend or foe. What Staci has to decide is where the danger lies – with the enemy holding the guy or her maybe, possibly, soon to be ex-husband who has a firm grip on her heart.
Gina Robinson is the ultimate professional writer for romantic suspense. Ms. Robinson knows how to mix the romance, with the intrigue, and throw in just enough mystery to make this one hot read.
I love how Gina Robinson work the chemistry of husbands and wives--sultry, sweet, hot, tender, funny -- I'm looking forward to this! Come out soon!X)
Emmett (adore him) likes to play matchmaker. Situation: Russian RIOT operatives and estranged wife of Agent Drew Fields, alias Greg the Hawaiian beach bum. Nice;)
Snippet:
Staci: “And what am I supposed to do for protection?”
He handed her a razor-sharp butcher knife from the block on the counter.
Staci: “You’re taking your life in your own hands. What if I turn out to be a backstabber?”
Drew: “Cutting up raw chicken gives you the willies. [..] Tell me, could you really stick a knife into the hot flesh of a man who’s given you so much pleasure over the years?”
Staci: Stupid, smartass, nearly ex-husbands. “Don’t tempt me. Just because I prefer ready-roasted fryers doesn’t mean I don’t know how to use a knife."
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the first book in the series, and I was excited to get my hands on this one, and am happy to say that I was not disappointed! I wasn't sure what I would think of Staci to begin with, because of how she'd nearly gotten Drew killed, even though it wasn't on purpose. But Staci quickly redeemed herself, and it was clear that she did truly love Drew. Drew was awesome, and I definitely liked him. It was fun following their adventure as they rebuilt their relationship. I was very happy with their HEA!
I won "Diamonds Are Truly Forever" by Gina Robinson through the Goodreads First-reads giveaway program Thank You! " Diamonds Are Truly Forever" Has romance, mystery and a great plot. I loved the characters!I loved all the action! A few twist and turns along the way. Throw in some humor for good measure! Fun quick read! I highly recommend!! I look froward in reading more from this author!
Drew and Staci drove me bananas, mostly Drew — who wants to read a marriage-in-crisis romance where the husband isn’t fighting for his marriage? Yeah he claims he’s going along with the divorce because he wants to keep Staci safe from his super dangerous spy lifestyle, but I mostly felt inertia and indifference from him. He’s not a hero in pursuit. I want a hero—especially a spy hero!—to move heaven and earth to save his marriage — otherwise what’s the point of this story? Oftentimes Staci can’t discern if he’s playing a role or authentically expressing love for her, and neither could I. Every action Drew takes is to further his mission objective, not to reconcile with his wife.
Also, the main obstacle to salvaging their marriage is Staci’s inability to lie—obviously a liability given Drew’s line of work—but it felt like the flimsiest of premises and I never bought into it.
I didn’t like the way he sent mixed messages (to both Staci and the reader) and I didn’t think he treated her with kindness and consideration; protectiveness is great, but it can’t be the MMC’s only redeeming feature. Throughout the story I kept wondering why he was treating his wife this way, especially since he claims he loves her but still fully intends to proceed with the divorce; it wasn’t part of some plan to pursue and win her over, so it felt weirdly cruel. Indecisive heroes are an immediate turn-off — that ship needs to right itself quickly in the story or I lose interest, so Drew’s prolonged dithering got old really quickly. I also don’t like heroines who are always caught on their back foot, and I became impatient with seeing Staci so easily manipulated by Drew; she says a million times, “She really shouldn’t have kissed him back.” It’s clear they have familiarity and sexual chemistry, but deep and abiding love? The back-and-forth between Staci and Drew didn’t feel lived-in or cute, just annoying.
I think Staci was right when she wondered if all they had going for them was good sex. Drew is horny for Staci but I never felt he deeply loved her. I wanted Staci to establish better boundaries, keep her distance from Drew, and start over with someone who wasn’t ambivalent about her.
The pacing and plotting really dragged. I love spy romances but the spy craft in this one had my eyes glazing over. I wasn’t engaged in the subplot involving Staci’s mom, and I didn’t care about the larger spy plot. The romance was entirely unsatisfying. Where was the longing, pining—anything other than quips and lust? Overall boring and mostly unromantic.
Diamonds Are Truly Forever is the perfect pick-me-up read. It is cute, sweet, funny, and is wrapped up in an intriguing mystery.
Drew and Staci are so close to their official divorce. Only Drew's job, CIA and the reason Staci is divorcing him, brings him back to their hometown and in her kitchen. That's when the bullets fly and they are brought back together, if only for appearances sake.
Staci loves Drew but can't handle the lies. As luck would have it, she turns out to be a pretty good spy and helps her mom with her suspicious husband. When Drew's job and Staci's amateur spying cross, things get really interesting.
Cute factor: Drew and Staci still love each other but don't want the other to know, they each want to protect one another. When they go shopping in the 'spy store', their camaraderie is adorable. And when Staci tries to be sneaky and sleuth-like, you're right there with Drew covering your face with your palm.
If you want an easy, quick, afternoon read that will leave you with good feels and an enjoyable puzzle to solve...pick up this book.
Staci Fields loves her husband, Drew, but her inability to lie, nearly got her CIA agent husband killed on a mission in South America. Fearing she could put his life at risk again, Staci files for divorce even though she still loves him.
Drew is a good spy and thought he was a great husband until Staci asked for a divorce. To protect her, he agrees to to the divorce. Just days before the divorce is final, he’s assigned to track her stepfather who is in a secret plot with terrorists. When Staci is caught in the crosshair’s of an assassin, Drew goes undercover as himself to protect his wife, pretending they are reunited. It’s a dangerous game keeping her safe and protecting his heart.
I really enjoyed the snarky way that the hero and heroine the married couple interacted it was fun it was serious was dangerous and it was deadly but it was romantic
DIAMONDS ARE TRULY FOREVER was the second book in the Agent Ex series by Gina Robinson. However, you most certainly do not need to have read the first book to enjoy the rollicking, tongue in cheek laugh-fest that was this book. Full of James Bond, Get Smart, Spy vs. Spy and lots of other pop culture spy references, Diamonds are Truly Forever was a laugh-out-loud fun read.
Drew and Staci almost died thanks to her loose lips and they are getting a divorce. She can’t lie and he was all about lies. But, despite it all, they are both very much in love with each other. When Emmett, Drew’s boss, sends Drew after some bad guys in his home town, Staci got enlisted into the mission. Staci wasn’t exactly safe herself; she was in the crosshairs of someone who needed her to die. Add a Mom who thought her husband was cheating on her, a couple of best friends who are wives of spies, a Canadian spy, and some hilarious bad guys and you have a great cast of characters.
Most of those characters are under-used in this book, which was both a positive and a negative. I would have liked the secondary characters to have been a bit more fleshed out, but leaving them very secondary helped to keep the book a great standalone read. The plot definitely overshadowed the characterization and the use of pop culture spy references as shorthand for the roles was unfortunate. It did not, however, take anything away from the plot.
The plot and the very self-conscious use of spy references are why this book worked so well for me. While we knew who the bad guys and the good guys were – there was no working to figure it out – the fun was in watching how everyone got from point A to point B. The plot didn’t stagnate anywhere or stay in any one moment too long.
Both the plot and characters were so over the top, there was no way to do anything but enjoy this book.

REVIEWED BY: Monique Neaves for MY BOOK ADDICTION AND MORE
Overall, I am really enjoying this fun spy series from Gina Robinson. The premise behind them is that Spy Boss, Emmett, does not want his agents to leave ex's behind. An ex is an informant to the enemy just waiting to happen. Plus, I honestly think that Emmett is simply a romantic at heart. These guys do difficult, stressful jobs and he doesn't want their love lives to suffer for that.
A while ago, Drew made the mistake of taking his wife Staci on a mission. It was supposed to be a romantic time for them while he was also working the case, but she accidentally let it slip that they were married, she was captured and tortured, and Drew almost died. Another agent, Jack, did die. Their relationship didn't survive. Staci doesn't blame Drew for what happened. She blames herself and the fact that she can't lie, even though she was being tortured at the time. She just isn't made for the spy game, so she needs to let Drew go before she gets him killed.
They both still love each other, so when Emmett throws them into a mission where they have to be undercover as themselves and reunited, well things just naturally happen.
I think I would have liked this book better if it was just a bit shorter. I liked the story and the premise, but it just seemed to go on for too long. I was ready for it to be over long before it actually was. Everything in the book worked...it was just drawn out for too long. But that being said, it was still fun and I cannot wait for book #3 in this series since Jack is supposed to be dead.
I like these books. They are unlike anything else out right now...at least with what I read and they are pure fun and adventure. Even the smexy parts...Gina doesn't get into huge details, but it still turns out to be scintillatingly sexy!
I received this advance reading copy through the Goodreads giveaway program, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first time to read a book by author Gina Robinson. Even though I read mostly mysteries, this was my first 'spy' book, which was a nice change.
This book has everything that I enjoy in a good read; romance, mystery, lovable characters and a good plot. The husband, Drew, is a spy; his wife Staci is not. His occupation revolves around and depends on the element of deception. She can't lie to save her soul or his life, or so she thought. The entanglement of the two working on a mission together will show them whether to go through with their divorce or not. I also am pleased that the book gives an unexpected element of surprise at the very end.
I found the book to be a quick read, despite the fact it is longer than many books at 438 pages. The plot, the dialogue, and the action keep the reader moving along at a fairly good pace. I did have a bit of hesitantcy in the first several pages, and wondered whether to continue, but I am glad I did. Maybe it was the 'spy' thing, or the wording, or who knows, but I would definitely read another by this author.
Diamond Are Truly Forever is a book about a nearly ex-couple, Staci and Drew. Drew lives as a spy that makes him very good with lies while Staci can't stand lying to anyone. Well, until that day...
I enjoyed the chemistry between Staci and Drew. I can actually feel the love between them but because of lies, they chose not to believe and I hated that part. Lol. I loved Staci. I don't know why but I just do. The only bummer for me was the ending. Is it really just like that? It was like too good to be true. Am I right to expect that Staci and Drew will appear on the next book or I'm just being hopeful and will be disappointed in the end? I just can't believe that the other threats were heart-stopping than that one.
Anyways, i enjoyed reading this one and definitely will be reading the next one.
Drew and Staci make quite a pair! Staci can't tell a lie and Drew being a spy does nothing, but live by lies. Staci feels guilty over the death of a friend of Drew's and a fellow spy. She was torture and gave up the information and therefore feels Drew would be safer without her in his life, but she's not being honest with him about it. Drew feels that his life and job has put Staci at risk and that is the only reason she was even in the position to be tortured in the first place, so to protect her he's willing to let her go. But there's a 100% no divorce rule for NCS agents, ex's are a risk that Drew's boss won't allow! Can Drew bring in the bad guy while winning back his wife and will that all change when Staci finds out the bad guy is her step-father?
I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
This is the second book in the Agent Ex series. I held on to this copy desperately trying to get a hold of the first book so that I could read the series, but no luck. So I decided to finally give this one a chance and see how much I was going to miss, the answer, not much.
This was a pretty funny book and interesting enough to keep you turning the pages. I really don't think I missed to much by not reading the first book, although now I really want to read it. This would be a good book for fans of Stephanie Plum. I'm not saying their similar in story lines but the writing style is similar enough.
Diamonds are truly forever and this diamond shines as brightly as the first book in Robinson's Agent-Ex series. (The Spy Who Left Me)
Staci can't tell a lie to save her life--or her husband's either. Drew's life as a spy is one big lie. Divorce makes the most sense for each other's safety, but it's no lie they still love each other.
This is a fun, fast-paced tale that brings smiles while warming your heart. Enjoy!
Additional review notes: This was one of the most laugh out loud funny romances I have ever read. It made me rethink my general dislike of comedic romances."
I enjoyed the first one a lot. The characters were funny and the two main protagonists definitely had a lot of chemistry. This book I found to be much sweeter. I owe my admiration to the book mostly to Staci because I found her to be adorably sweet. She truly truly loved Drew and deserved to have her spy fairy tale come true!
This is the 2nd book in the Agent Ex. files and fans won't be disappointed. This series has everything a girl could want: fast paced, great mystery, fantastic dialog, fast moving plots and of course romance.
If you enjoy reading a fun spy series and are looking for something good to read, you won't be disappointed if you pick this up.
Staci and Drew are a deadly pair... Book 3 has definitely taken their story to new heights. I'm definitely hooked and looking forward to the next book in the series "Live and Let Love" coming, not soon enough.
I am really liking this series. It is action packed and the spy angle is fun. The spy/almost ex-husband in this one occasionally acts like Bond and a spy gadget store is involved. :) It was a nice light read. I will definitely pick the next one up.
Great second book. I really enjoyed this, just like the last one. Can't wait for #3. I do hope that Em get's his own book. I think his would be utterly fantastic too.
