In WINTERBORNE, Loie and Mia's seventeenth birthdays brought more drama and surprises than they ever expected. Now, in Ravenstoke, they are adjusting to the aftermath and struggling to keep those newfound powers in check. When Andreas is called away to England under mysterious circumstances, a new guy is sent to Salcey Ridge in his place. Cian is smarmy and cocksure and Loie wants nothing more than to unleash a hellhound on him. Unfortunately, Cian isn't the only complication in their lives as the girls must also contend with the reappearance of Mr. Winterborne himself and Loie's most dreaded fear of all - a part in the school musical. Can the girls survive the rest of junior year unscathed?

Um...can I just say that I love Cian! If I didn't know Loie could seriously kick my butt I'd totally scrap for him...and that's saying a lot cause I don't scrap. :) (Sorry, I just had to throw that out there)

Ravenstoke picks up right where Winterborne left off. Powers ascended. Boy drama. Messed up family dynamic that surprisingly seems to work. Ancients ticked off that Loie and Mia are still alive.

Loie's training is put on hold when Andreas leaves for a secret mission in merry ol' London, England. Tough luck for Loie cause she spent all of her free time with him learning to use all these wicked new powers, which are infinite and completely untapped. Enter the sly, cool and sometimes brooding Cian come to take Andreas' place while he's away. I know Loie was a little bummed over losing Andreas to Mia, but I've gotta say, I think she won in the end cause as sweet as Andreas is, the bad boy is always more fun. And Cian actually allows Loie to try things Andreas wasn't ready to, like transfiguring into animals and dancing across rapids turning water into ice with each step. Yum!

After Andreas goes MIA for a bit, boy-lonely Mia gets the bright idea of them joining the drama club so they can tag along on the spring break trip to London to see Wicked, the play they're performing themselves come end of term. As if she wasn't miserable enough being in a play, unlucky Loie ends up having a Stephen King Carrie moment for all the audience to see. Anyways, Loie uses this time in London to track down Andreas in a location she never thought possible - Ravenstoke - and learns a few unsettling things about the new hottie in her life.

Since this is a sequel, I don't wanna give away too much. Ravenstoke didn't have as much action as Winterborne, but I think I actually liked this one better. Loie introduced us to Sanctuary, a hidden establishment for Universals only, a few new supernatural characters debuted that weren't too fond of our gal (like a kelpie that apparently likes to drag you to your death underwater), and we finally got a paranormal romance that wasn't just being observed through the main character.

So why should you read Ravenstoke? Cool chic with supernatural abilities. Hotty of an interim trainer to swoon over. Creatures that want this cool chic dead. And ebooks are only $2.99 on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and iBooks so how could you go wrong?

Winterborne is the first book in this series, and I pretty much jumped straight into this second one as soon as I finished that one. There are going to be major spoilers ahead if you plan on reading Winterborne.

Now that Loie knows about what she is-a Universal-and knows about her powers, her life pretty much changes completely. Universals are humans who have evolved into a superior human being. They live among other humans, for the most part, although some do live in Sanctuary, a place in another world that is loosely connected to our world. Ancients are other supernatural creatures that hate the Universals, and cause huge problems for Loie and Mia. Loie spends most of her time in training for all her new powers as Andreas has taken on the role of her trainer. Loie is still crushing on him, but he loves Mia, Loie’s best friend. Mia is trying hard to embrace a world with no powers, now that she realizes she isn’t special. When Andreas has to go back to England for a top secret mission of sorts, Loie thinks she is alone in her training. When Cian shows up to train her, things get really interesting.

I really enjoyed Loie’s character in this book. She spent most of her life as Mia’s best friend and thought that Mia was going to be the special one. Now she is totally embracing what she is, and the powers she has, and how she controls them, was a fun part of this read. I did still like Mia as well, but the author didn’t shy away in showing Mia’s disappointment due to the loss of what she thought she was going to be. Andreas on the other hand lost a bit of his luster for me, and as Loie starts to think of him, he’s pretty vanilla. This is shown after Cian starts showing Loie all she can do, while Andreas was taking it all too slow. If Andreas is vanilla in his actions, then Cian is wonderfully chocolate. Speaking of Cian(pronounced Keane), he is like the bad, but fun hero, and Loie rebuffs him almost every step of the way. The banter between the two was a highlight for me in this part.

A change of scenery this time around, just added another dimension to this read. The girls travel to London, supposedly for the drama club, but Mia is just wanting to find Andreas. All kinds of adventures are had there by Loie, and more characters are added to the mix. But it’s when they get home that ramps up the story even more.

As with the first one, I found the writing to be good, the editing pretty exceptional for an indie read, and the premise, both unusual and perfect for a young adult(or adult)reader. The pacing was good, and the characters personalities fully developed. Of course that is all true of the first book as well. This is all just part of how well written this series is. Both of these were quick reads for me, and I am sure that is due to all the action, adventures, supernatural creatures, and of course Loie’s snark. Next up, is the last part of this trilogy titled, The Yawning Void, which I am planning to read soon. Did I mention there may be a war coming up between the Universals and the Ancients? Can’t wait to see where that goes.

Just a heads up, this is not a stand alone, and the books should be read in order.(RabidReads.com)

Lori sees her dad when she takes her SAT in a different high school, meets a handsome boy in the forest while Andreas is away in a secret mission in London, Cien it's not who he say he is. The girls sign up for drama club so they could take a trip to London. And allot of meeting new people in London. And when prom is here and Cien shows up for as her date he tells her shocking news.

100% good. Love this book. It took me less than a week to read it.thanks for making this book. I don't know what to say that is how good it was.

I have already purchased the next book in this excellent trilogy. I also plan to read more by this author. Sometimes, after the premise is realized in the first book in a trilogy, there aren’t as many exciting reveals in the following books, but not in this case. Loie continues to develop her powers in this second book in the Universe Unbound trilogy. I absolutely adore the banter and Loie’s sense of humor & bit of snark. This book was exciting and intriguing and mysterious and fun.

I enjoyed Ravenstoke much more than I did Winterborne. I had a big issue with Loie in the first because of her lack of confidence in herself and how she always felt that she was second best to Mia. But she is a stronger character in this second instalment of the Universe Unbound series, and it was great to see her coming into herself.

In Ravenstoke, Andreas is training Loie to control her newfound powers, and also teaching her about Universals and Ancients. When he leaves for England for an undetermined amount of time, Loie is concerned about her training. She’s not too impressed when she meets Cain (pronounced KEEN) and he takes over her training. On top of that, Mia signs them up for Drama club so they can take a trip with the group over to London to find Andreas. And the icing on the cake is that Mr. Winterborne wants to play a bigger role in Loie’s life, which only makes her more upset with him.

I really need to address the matter of Cain. I seriously love him. Even when I hated him or wasn’t sure about him, I still really loved him. And I think he and Loie are great for one another, mostly because she doesn’t take his bull and he puts up with her stubbornness. He was a great trainer, too, because he didn’t hold Loie back like Andreas seemed to. Regardless of what we learn about him, I still think his part in this story was so important for the growth of Loie as a character.

We got to visit more than just Salcey Ridge in this book. Loie and Mia jet off to London and then we also see some of the Welsh countryside, and we also get a glimpse at where Mr. Winterborne’s been hiding, in Sanctuary. I think it gave the story depth to see more than just their small town.

I wasn’t sure about reading Ravenstoke because I wasn’t crazy about Winterborne, but I’m really glad I read it. It really was better than the first. And I will definitely be looking forward to the next book, and getting more information about it!

Augusta Blythe isn't disappointing and manages to deliver once more an amazing book in her Universe Unbound series! Ravenstoke, is as good as her first book Winterborne and I really enjoyed reading about how Loie handles all the heart-breaking truths that were revealed about her and her family in the end of Winterborne.

Loie is really maturing in Ravenstoke and I just enjoyed every minute of her development as a character. She struggles not only to control all her new abilities but to come to terms with her father's decisions. Add to that the fact that she has to overcome her feelings about Andreas and one could say that she has more than enough on her plate! I found really refreshing the fact that Blythe created a heroine who despite how difficult things might get in her life, she just puts her head down and tries her best to overcome any obstacles instead of keep whining the whole time and just hope that her problems will miraculously be solved.
Mia has also matured as a character compared to the first book and although I'm not her biggest fan yet, I liked her way more in Ravenstoke than in Winterborne.

Ravenstoke also introduces to us some new characters. The elusive Mr Winterborne makes his appearance as well as Cian. Cian... what can I say about him! I just loved beyond measure his charming personality, so much that I just forgot about Andreas! Well, I didn't exactly forget him, but Cian is really amazing! And the twists of the plot regarding him promise that there are more aspects of him to be revealed in the next book, which I'm just already dying to read!

Ravenstoke, may not be as heavy action-wise as Winterborne was and mostly serves as a bridge between the previous book in the series and the book to come, but it's still a really enjoyable book! Before I wrap-up with my review I just want to express my gratitude towards Augusta Blythe for providing me with a copy of her newest book as soon as it was available! Thank you so so much Augusta!

Loie and Mia are back! And this time this time they know exactly what's going on. Ever since Loie turned 17 she realized the truth. She was switched at birth and her father is a Universal. A race more "super" than humans and living in another dimension.

I was kind of thinking of Thor's Asgard here but turns out they live in Smurf houses lolz.

Andreas is back and still training Loie to tap into her inner Universal. Teaching her how to control her powers and train like the "Super" champ she is.

That is... until he gets called off to England.

He can't tell Loie and Mia why but something smells fishy.

In his place a boy named Cian comes to train Loie. With his help she is able to delve deeper into her new powers. Cian isn't letting Loie hold back and Loie doesn't want him to.

Spring Break is on the way and that means Class trips. Somehow they need to get to England to figure out what's going on with Andreas. In a way that is truely Mia-esq, she snags them a trip to London with only one little setback... it's with the Drama Club.

But what's in England? Is Andreas ok? Is there something afoot? What about Cian? Where did he go?

In this sequel to "Winterborne" a lot of questions are answered. A past in unraveled. And the truth is coming together like a puzzle.

An awesome follow-up novel.

I must admit that while I wasn't a big fan of "Winterborne", this novel impressed me. The growth of her characters is astounding and her skills as a writer has greatly improved.

Pick this one up if you like adventure and romance. You won't be disappointed!

Ravenstoke is the second book in a series called Universe Unbound by Augusta Blythe.

Ravenstoke continues to follow Loie and Mia as they learn more about who they really are and the secrets that tie them together. Loie is coming into her own as a Universal and learning that she is way more powerful than she ever imagined. Andreas is still around, helping Loie train by day and smooching with Mia by night.

When Andreas is pulled into a secret mission in England, Loie is left on her own to train... until the replacement shows up. Gorgeous and sly, Cian. Cian decides to try and push Loie as far as she can go to really test out her limits. And they both realize that she's quite amazing.

I can't really go into any more detail than that or I risk giving away some of the goodies... the twists, turns and surprises that makes this book great. This book works really hard at developing characters and relationships, especially Loie's, and it pays off in the end. You also get to meet the illusive Mr. Winterborne... finally! And Cian... swoooooon.

This book is absolutely transitional... not as action packed as the first, but definitely leading up so some good drama... I can feel it.

You'd definitely want to read these in order, or you'll be lost. Loie is a Universal, not a witch or a magical creature. You need some backstory to grasp the details.

Read them... you'll like it! I can't wait for the next one!

I don't normally have the best of luck with self published book. But something about the first book in this series caught my attention, and I never looked back. I was keeping my fingers crossed that Ravenstoke could carry the same punch that Winterborne did.

I got lucky again! If anything, I think this might have been better than the first book in the series. At first, I was afraid it was going to be a book about Loie and her whining. And felt bad that Andreas choose Mia over her, I really do. But, I wanted her to get over it. And then Andreas leaves the story for awhile and enter in Cian. He was just what this story needed. I loved him, even when I was convinced he was the bad guy (way before we even learn who he really is). His intention never seemed to be aimed at hurting Cian and I loved how he called her Kitty.

I enjoyed the direction that the story is taking. The long lost father shows up and I was proud of Loie for giving him grief, but also knowing when to stop. I get fed up with teens that seem to think the world should bow to them. I'm intrigued with what the ancients plan to do next, both those who are in favor of a treaty and those who aren't. I'm also happy to see that Loie decides to spend sometime in the other world. She's not entirely human, and I think she needs to embrace that side of her. Plus, I think she might learn more.

Above all, I hope the next book gives us more Cian. But, I'll be happy to read it even if it doesn't!

Ravenstoke is the second in Augusta Blythe's Universe Unbound series, and I love it just as much as I did the first. One of the things I like most about these books is that the author doesn't follow the typical YA formula of "boy meets girl, boy gets girl" with all of the attending angst. There is all of that, but done in a refreshing way that doesn't always end in the ways you think it will. It keeps the story refreshing and interesting and absolutely engaging. Once I began, I didn't put it down until I finished it!

The story picks up soon after the first book, Winterborne, ends with Loie and Mia struggling to fit in their new roles in life. Secrets have been exposed that have caused them to have to completely reassess their lives. There is so much to this story: heartbreak, sadness, loss, fear, distrust, love of all kinds. The plot is just as much a story of relationships (Mia and Loie, Loie and Andreas, Mia and Andreas, Loie and Cian, Loie and her father, Loie and her mother) as it is about the paranormal themes. The characters, whether you loved them or hated them, were entirely believable and made the story as much as anything else. There is less full-on action than in the first novel, but so much took place in this that the series progressed by leaps and bounds. Definitely a must read, after Winterborne.

Ravenstoke is such a fun read. I was so glad to be back in this world that I got to visit in the first book, Winterborne.

Loie, the main character, has such a distinctive voice. That was definitely one of my favorite parts of the book. She's really admirable, too. She has tons of awesome powers but she never once becomes conceited or annoying. Loie is just a very down to earth character. Plus, she was always making me smile with her memorable narration.

We're introduced to a new character in Ravenstoke. His name is Cian and I was definitely enthralled with him. He and Loie don't have much of a romance, they don't see each other that much, but when they did meet I was definitely rooting for them. Hopefully something more will happen in later books!

I was very intrigued by the plot of this one. Loie is growing into her powers, powers that are very powerful and very cool to read about. I loved reading about her training sessions! The plot could be a little bit slow in times but I could get through those parts because of Loie! Loie and her friend Mia take a trip overseas that I absolutely loved!

Overall, Ravenstoke is a fantastic sequel. I'm definitely looking forward to more from Blythe.

Book two in the series does not disappoint. It has it all: Superpowers, friendship, family, romance, and mystery. Loie, our ever entertaining narrator, is witty and sharp as usual. Both girls are still trying to figure out how to adjust to their new family dynamic. It's strange to see Mia slip so readily into a sidekick role, but as her relationship with Andreas progresses, it's clear that she's not content to always play second fiddle. We meet some new and interesting characters, and are left hanging waiting for the next installment.

Congratulations to Augusta for providing us with a more than satisfactory sophomore book, and to the illustrator for giving us a cover which rivals the first.

The story behind this book is so unique and that's what make it such a good book. I did feel like the sequel was a little bit slower to get into than the first one. There's some swoonworthy men in there! What will come next? I can't wait to read the next one!
