I love this book for little ones, especially the way the author cleverly plays on words to describe the mundane task of taking a bath in a way toddlers especially relate to in their worlds of wonder and discovery at that age. The author dramatizes each and every page of the story about a little boy who becomes a brave sea captain at bath time, and uses alliteration to connect and describe the the imaginative play to the real life components in the pages. This just seems so well done like the author was writing the book from the eyes, or mind, of the child, and she captured that perfectly. It is a quick little read and perfect for little minds with big imaginations!
Captain Bob is one of my kids' favorite characters. CAPTAIN BOB SETS SAIL is another winner, with gorgeous, up-close illustrations and a fun storyline.
While taking his bath, Bob imagines himself the Captain, setting sail on the open sea, dodging the waterfalls, and avoiding the many hidden dangers of the tumultuous open waters.
Definitely a great bedtime story, and also great for beginning readers, who will be able to pick up on some of the repetitive words.
This book does a great job of showing how using our imagination can make even the most mundane activities extremely enjoyable. The words move around the page resembling the waves in the illustrations as the little boy play in the bathtub. It also shows a healthy relationship between the young boy and his mother.
