In 1933, at the age of four, Anne Frank and her family fled from the Nazis in Germany and sought safe haven in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 1940, when the Germans invaded the Netherlands, the Frank family once again feared for their lives. Like tens of thousands of Dutch Jews, the Franks went into hiding. They lived in several hidden rooms -- known as the "Secret Annex" -- above Mr. Frank's office building. It was there that Anne wrote her now-famous diary. The Franks lived in hiding for two years before they were discovered and sent to Auschwitz, the most well-known and feared concentration camp. Anne Frank gave a human face to the victims of the Holocaust and a courageous voice to all those who were silenced. Though Anne Frank only lived to the age of fifteen, her inspirational childhood is perhaps the best known in history.
This was really good. It was very cool to learn about her and her life as a kid/teen. I'm intrigued to read her diary now! It's a very sad story for sure but also amazing. I wish we knew who really betrayed them. I can't believe she died a week before liberation! and that her boyfriend died two days before liberation. Overall such a good book telling an amazing story in such a horrible time.
I don't have words to describe what I’m felling after read this book. Of course, I already knew Anne’s history, but after reading this book I admire her more than ever. Not just her, but Jews, homosexuals, Russian prisoners of war, Gypsies, or the mentally and physically handicapped that were killed because the Nazis considered them inferior.
This book offers historical information in addition to fictional elements. I found the format interesting and an effective way to interest students in reading a biography. (6th grade reading level)
I think this book would be good to read if you like history and historical fiction as well as world war II. this book has lots of facts but some fiction involved to make the book more intresting.
This book is a historical account of young Anne Frank's life. Her family fled Germany in 1940 and took up residence in Amsterdam just after the Nazis invaded. The family moved again. It is a easy read in that the story is easy to follow and children can get a sense of what it was like to be in Miss Frank's shoes living in terror. This book can be used as part of a text set about World War II or it can be a part of a text set about young writers. This book is suitable for grades 3 -4.
Our family reading for May. I cried as I read what happened after the families were found out. I feel pain and loss for people I would not have ever known. The senseless loss of over 6 million people. I did learn that even Gypsies and Russian prisoners of war were also gassed. What I did not hear or read was if American prisoners of war were killed in like manner.
This is an excellent book, I started reading it late last evening when I went to Bed. I finished it at 2:40 AM. I could not put it down. Did not get sleepy reading it. Excellent book, I think it should be read by everyone.
This is in the series "Childhood of World Figures." Easy to read for ages 8-12, it gives just enough information to get kids interested and read more about WWII.
Nicely done from her diary. It helped me to see the pseudonyms she used for the non-family people who lived with them that she used so she wouldn't embarrass anyone.
