In the 19th century, the world’s best known writer was probably Sir Walter Scott, who was one of the first writers to have a following across the globe in his lifetime. The Scottish writer still pops up in literature classes across the world, with people instantly familiar with titles like Ivanhoe, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Bride of Lammermoor, and more. Scott is often considered the inventor of the modern historical novel, and his style was imitated throughout the 19th century. His legacy has been debated ever since, but everyone can agree that he has remained influential.
This edition of Scott’s Ivanhoe is specially formatted with a Table of Contents and is illustrated with over a dozen pictures of Scott.
Mattern is the author of many books for children. Her favorite topics include animals, biography, and history. She lives in the Hudson Valley of New York State.
As with the others, a good way to get younger kids into reading, and introduce them to classic books in language they can understand. I belive I will find the original to all the wishbones I have! (I have two so far! And have read one more!) Also, this series (Classics) is the best. Its much less disjointed than Adventures.
I only read this because it was in my garage and I needed something to read but I actually enjoyed the story immensely. I think I will need to read the original sometime. :)
