Lou Sylvre

Lou Sylvre loves stories and likes to conjure them into books. When the stories are about love, the sweethearts on her pages are most often men who end up loving each other and likely saving each other from unspeakable danger. As if you’d want to know more, she’ll happily tell you that she is a proudly bisexual woman—a mother, grandmother, and cat-herder (with a dog). Her love of languages is no doubt a result of her interestingly mixed up heritage. Her over-the-top love of her rainbow-colored demi-tasse set cannot be adequately explained. She also loves music coffee, chocolate, and wild roses. As a writer, she works closely with lead cat assistant Boudreau St. Clair. Lou grew up in the Los Angeles area, where barefoot was always best for a kid. She now lives in the lush, rainy part of the Pacific Northwest, and hearing from a reader unfailingly brightens the dismal weather. Her email is louwrites@rainbowgate.com.

This second book in the Vasquez and James series and is another excellent example of just how amazing Lou Sylvre is... LOVED IT!!!

Delsyn's blues

Lou Sylvre, once again delivers a compelling, exciting and suspense filled slice of Luki and Sonny’s world, in Loving Luki I fell in love with her beautiful prose that endeared me to these two flawed and broken characters who are still at the fledgling stage of their relationship. The prologue to Delsyn’s Blues is heart breaking, and the consequences of this are the back bone to the story and our boys are once again embroiled in the middle of all the action, this time Luki needs to call on his AFT experience with more than a few favours called in to deal with murder, arms and drug running which see’s our boys faced with yet more challenges, and they need to draw on all their strength to to survive yet another event that could see that tentative relationship come crashing down on them.

After the trauma and heartache in Loving Luki, Sonny and Luki had at least had a little reprieve to get to know one another, that is until the tragic event happened, which left Sonny a shell, and numb to everything around him. He had lost his will to fight and both his body and soul were wracked with grief, he feels culpable, in his mind it was all his fault and it was that guilt that drives Luki away. However, Luki is a stubborn SOB, he is hurt that Sonny has pushed him away but the love he has for his man is too strong and luckily Sonny realises he needs Luki and finally lets the man he loves, back into his life… to take away the pain and at least give him some peace from the nightmares.

Sonny being arrested for murder and finding drugs and guns under their house has them looking more closely at the man that has made Sonny’s life a misery but he is not alone in his crimes and little do they realise that there is someone much closer to home that is the real enemy. The clues to the investigation are nagging at the back of Luki’s mind but his concern for Sonny is clouding his judgement, whilst Sonny buries his head in the sand, internalising his feelings with his exterior calm but distant, the enormous impact of what has happened, he seems to dismiss, not quite ignoring but putting his trust in Luki to make the right decisions, to just make it all go away, blocking out external influences, being quite happy in his own little Sonny world.

These two men are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, they seem to make one bad decision after the other, with  Sonny giving me a real WTF! where did that come from? moment. You see Sonny cannot lie so if Luki asks a question he tells the truth… NO! in this case a white lie will do! and just when I thought it was all going so well Luki’s green eyed monster came into the picture, I was all but throwing my kindle out of the window and to say I was pissed off at him would be an understatement. But I like that these two characters are not perfect, they make mistakes in life the same as we do, but they are strong, and they need that strength to to survive but they also need to trust and understand that being vulnerable, and needing someone is not a weakness.

It was a little late in life, Luki thought, for him to finally start getting it. What it meant to love someone. Love a man so much you wanted to make a life with him. So much you were willing to help him through the darkest times, accept his needs along with his strength, see both as parts of what, all together, made him beautiful. And to let him do that, for you.

In Delsyn’s Blues we have a better understanding of Luki and Sonny with more of their complex lives and characters revealed, they themselves do some soul searching, and delve deep into the depths to the parts of them that had long since been buried, to the men they had been before the void in their hearts had been filled with love... something they had yearned for but never dared to feel. This gives us as readers an insight into the fabric of the men so damaged by their past, rendering them incapable of trust never mind allowing another into their hearts. Luki even now to the outside world, he was cold as ice, a man in control, but for Sonny that guard, that persona disappeared and he saw the true Luki. The man that loved Sonny more than life itself, and with Sonny being such an open book, incapable of lies or deceit the love and affection and deep seated trust was mirrored.

I love this series and the excellent and at times beautiful writing from Lou Sylvre, through her words the emotion, heartbreak, fear, love, uncertainty, hope, all of it, I feel and experience… she puts me right there with them and I am now hooked and totally invested in the future of these two characters that I have come to adore.

Luki Mililani Vasquez loves Sonny Bly James.

After the events of the previous summer, where former ATF agent and now private security consultant Luki and weaver and artist Sonny faced certain death, the two have moved forward with their relationship. They share humor, smart ass attitudes, passion, and love for each other. Luki has basically moved in with Sonny and Delsyn, Sonny's nephew, who managed to survive being bled nearly to death in the same events that almost killed Luki and Sonny.

But now Delsyn is dead. Having overhead something he should never have, he was betrayed by someone...familiar.

Left behind is a shattered Sonny, an exiled Luki, and a huge mystery. Who wanted him dead? Why? What purpose did it serve?

As Luki and Sonny love, fight, implode, explode and do everything couples do, they discover that, ultimately, the only ones that can count on are each other.

Lou Sylvre has done a bad, bad thing. She has taken two characters I loved and built them up and broken them down. She made them hurt, gave them hope and then tore out their hearts. She made them laugh and then she made them cry.

And she showed us every beat of their wide open, shut down hearts.

Especially Luki. The ice cold man with the warm heart only for Sonny. And Delsyn, of course. But really, he only has eyes for Sonny.

"If the heart can truly cry, Luki's did. It hurt with overwhelming and bittersweet joy."

And that's the blues. Sorrow transformed into joy through tears and pain. Sung from the heart, regretful, defiant, triumphant.

"'Well, it's kind of like weaving, you know? When you make a tapestry, you've got an idea and a bunch of colors. Sometimes you weave them together to effect another shade, sometimes you carry one behind the other. A lot of times you just have to set them side by side and hook them up. It isn't until you figure out how each ties in to the others that you have the whole picture.'"

We get the whole picture. Delsyn's gift. The blues. His life and death brought meaning through the love of the two men who mourn his loss.

Beautiful sadness.

I am so in love with these 2 beautiful men. 5 heart pounding beautifully written stars. Better than the 1st installment. You learn so much more about these 2 men in book 2.

Luki a wonderfully beautiful insecure man who loves Sonny with his whole being. And smokes way to much!

Sonny a heart broken artist who lost his nephew Delsyn to an unspeakable crime, Pushes the man he loves away basically to grieve it’s all he knows to do. But Luki strong and determined will not let Sonny do this alone. He is an amazing man. And together they have to deal with so many ups and downs twists and turns to make it through the events following this tragedy.

Their love is beautiful and true and makes me smile! I did hate the Richard aspect and Sonny even considering it grr, that whole scenario tore me apart.

I can’t wait until the next book. Sonny to Luki….. What are YOU looking at?

This is a fantastic follow up to Loving Luki Vasquez. I won't go into spoiler territory but this book contains a lot more of the characters' back story and it pretty much is a roller coaster ride of angst, pleasure, joy, anger and oh-my-fucking-god-what-the-hell-is-he-doing-to-me-now emotions.

A lot of this book is about the faith and trust that builds between Luki and Sonny. Yes, there is a crime/drama in this but it's also about their relationship and the trials/tribulations both men have to go through in order to reach an understanding about the man they love.

Highly recommend this book. Go get it. Why are you still reading this? Go. Shoosh. :::grins:::

I should have read this book slower. Because now I've finished and am beginning the impatient wait for the next installment of the Luki Vasquez/Sonny James series. And the author had better hurry, as this book left me longing for more of the guys.

I don't know what it is about Luki and Sonny. Chemistry, physical appeal, sex, a wonderful balance of dark and light, broody and sunny. They are perfection.

The book does begin on a sad note, but I was invested in the story---mind and heart---before the first chapter had even started. Luki had returned to his job in Chicago where he was miserable without his beloved Sonny. Events bring him back to the Pacific Northwest, to Sonny's side, and the trouble begins before Luki's even had his first cigarette.

I don't reveal plot, but the action is intriguing, especially the climax. The suspense in the finale was nail-biting, put me in mind of the wonderful, tension-filled land/water chase in the movie Niagara.

Luki and Sonny are still unbearably hot, their relationship as beautiful as the first book if not better. Steamy, sweet, sensual, real. Lean, gorgeous Sonny who Sylvre paints so clearly and hot, hot, hot Luki.

Only thing unsatisfactory about the read was that it...ended. Sigh.

Picture, Ms. Sylvre, if you will....the gang banging their tin cups on the table, demanding more. More, more, more! Can't get enough of Luki and Sonny.

Much better than the first book with Vasquez & James, with a much clearer story-line. An interesting writing style, though it still is kind of long-winded.

What I like with the writing style is the ease with which the story is told, there is no akwardness. It is flowing so easily that sometimes it is even overflowing :P

The characters are also very compelling and distinct, though I didn't like some of the mushiness in the end.

James indian heriage was also much clearer in this story, something that confused me a lot in the first book.

This sequel is easily a stand alone book. Loving Luki Vasquez is a great thriller/mystery/romance about two characters who couldn't possibly be more opposite and yet,in strange ways so much alike. Both hiding and protecting their inter selves. Yet despite this fact, they get thrown into high-energy situations and have to work together to figure them out, building their love along the way. The author really kept the pace going, and it was hard to put down. Enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it. I really really loved this book and will reread. If i could give more then 5 stars I would.

'Delsyn's Blues' is the second book in Lou Sylvre's 'Vasquez & James' series about Luki, ex-ATF Agent and owner of a highly successful security firm, and his lover, Sonny, a reclusive weaver who lives in the woods on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. Before you ask me, yes, in my opinion, these books must be read in order for all the history and backstory that comes along in each. I really enjoyed the first book and its climactic ending which involved Sonny's nephew, Delsyn, so I was excited to jump into this installment. I wasn't very happy to begin the book and immediately be sad, but I understood where the author was taking me so I forgave her.

When Delsyn slipped into a coma after a fall, Sonny sent Luki home to Chicago, wanting only to be alone with the nephew he loved. Sonny didn't even call Luki when Delsyn died, but Luki shows up at the graveside as Sonny is being arrested for the murder of Delsyn. What?! Sonny is being accused of turning off the machines that were keeping Delsyn alive. Sonny is so depressed and despondent that he doesn't even really care. So whether he wants him there or not, Luki is going to make sure to clear Sonny's name. But Sonny does want Luki, they just have to weather some storms to get back to where they began. One of those storms is the possibility that Delsyn died because he overheard something…by someone who might've been a friend.

One of the things I liked the most about this book was getting more history on Sonny and Luki. Discovering Sonny's drug addicted youth and Luki's painful memories of clubbing almost broke my heart. Sonny has spent his life just ignoring the bad stuff and Luki has gone one better by trapping all emotions behind an icy wall. So when these two men hit a rough patch, neither can help their ingrained and instinctual responses. But I wanted to smack them both upside their heads. Men. Hmpf. Luckily they came to their senses and realized what the important things in life are.

I think I liked this second installment even more than the previous. Once again there was a mystery to solve and a whole lot of action adventure, but there was more understanding of these main characters and I responded very well to that. The tempo and pace of this book seemed to flow better and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading the next adventure with Luki and Sonny.

I actually had more issues than the first time I read this; a number of unanswered questions, unlikely scenarios remain.

Liked it more than than the first

I think I enjoyed this more because the characters were now familiar. More was revealed from Sonny's past, but not how he can drive like a NASCAR trained, stunt-car expert. It also never explains how he got, or what, his doctorate is. It was still a very intriguing mystery. Also very sad, for Delsyn, as we never got to know him much at all. One of the villains is guessable, very early on. This doesn't detract from the mystery or all the purposes involved. Nothing with Luki and Sonny is fully detailed. It's necessary to be able to infer some things through dialogue and narrative. The short breakup, in the middle, seems to be completely unnecessary. It did reveal a little more of Luki's insecurities. It is also necessary to believe the unbelievable, that this many bad things can happen to these two.

4.5 Very good sequel about two men with serious communication problems. My only niggle was the constant vomiting and smoking issues. I kept thinking bad breath...I know, silly, but it bothered me. Breath mints were mentioned but it threw me out of the story several times. Nevertheless, some of the sex scenes left me breathless. They were so well written. I'm looking forward to book 3 in this universe which will be released shortly.

Delsyn's Blues was so not what I expected, it was more, so very much more and all I can say is I loved it. Lukie and Sonny are so wonderful together and Delsyn broke my heart. I don't know if anything could have made this story better for me the characters and plot were excellent and so well crafted, life a finely woven tapestry.

Arrgh! I'm just not in the frame of mind for painful, angsty books, and it seems that all of the ones I'm reading lately have these twists that I am NOT loving. After all of that drama to save Delsyn, he's killed before the story really gets started? Really? I kept waiting for something outlandish, like a switch at the hospital or something, but no...

There were gradual revelations of back story issues and reminders that both of these guys are very complicated, and I'm still suspicious of the big meltdown over the proposed menage that has no clear explanation for Sonny's actions because these guys aren't so good at talking (so WHY was he going to that address?), and the chapters are mostly in Luki's POV. Still, the tension is nicely conveyed and the intense connection between the main characters is palpable.

I'll definitely be reading the sequel...but not until I'm in a less-cranky mood, lol. Fortunately, my library has this entire series, so I'm a happy camper.

Honestly, after reading this I remember why I haven't picked it up after I read the first one back on 2013. It's a very introspective book, slow building and honestly not much action. If you're going to be in the characters head the whole time would love some witty banter instead of the depressing woe is me type of stuff.

MtSnow reviews 'Delsyn's Blues' (Vasquez & James Book 2) by Lou Sylvre (Released by Dreamspinner Press on January 2nd, 2012, 260 pgs)

Professional badass Luki Vasquez and weaver Sonny James meet for the first time in Loving Luki Vasquez, and they might make a sizzling couple if they can ever get past the impulse to run the other way every time romance comes into view. Then again, they have to stay alive if they’re ever to see their wedding day, and tribulation, cruelty, and greed has a way of demanding attention at all the worst moments. Together, they pack a lot of resources to fight for love. If they can hold out, they just might win the enduring love and family they were meant to share.

I had begun Sonny and Luki's story a few years ago, and this is the second in the series. They were good stories, but I think I had to be ready for the subject matter. They are more serious rather than light, funny reads, yet she ties humor in nicely. At times that's just what you need. When I saw we were being provided a copy of the latest in this series, bundled with 'Yes' (the love story that talks about Luki's battle with cancer) I figured I was ready to give the series another try. In the meantime, I am also rereading and reviewing the other books in this series.

While revisiting the sorrows and failings of his past, in the here and now he puts up a wall against love. The cover: Reese has done it again. So nice to see something so simple yet with a sense of mystery. There is an intangible element of emotion and mood that transfers well in print, and the beauty of the design is best recognized when an artist is able to complete the whole series as Reese has done for the Vasquez and James books. Want this set in paperback on my bookshelves!

The story: I know the author never promised roses and kittens, but yeesh! This one was a heartbreaker due to just getting introduced to Sonny's nephew in the first book. Delsyn had such a kind spirit, and we barely got to learn anything about him. I think I had a hard time with this one due to me being an HEA-type person that has a hard time with the death of any character.

I felt this one had a melancholy feel to it, and the fact that either Sonny or Luki would even consider cheating on each other was hard for me. But that is very personal to each reader. They are admittedly new to having a relationship at all, but this is part of the reason for my 'buy-in' to the rest of the series, as this story was treated in such a way as to feel very authentic and realistic.

Some of the mystery and graphic violence from the first book carries through to this one, but rather than being gratuitous, I believe it adds to the layers that are being built in the storyline. It was a little hard to read, but after having read it, I was eager to move on to the next in the series!

I wiped away more tears of sadness than joy reading this one, but it is still a very good story overall.

Unexpected Loss. Unbearable Pain.

I consider this more or less Sonny's story. Within it we find out a lot of the sweet, caring man who has captured Luki's heart. The same man who struggles with pain from both the present and the past. The one that loves Luki, but keeps him at a distance.

"If the heart can truly cry, Luki's did. It hurt with overwhelming and bittersweet joy."

When tragedy strikes, Luki returns to his Sonny. But the man standing in front of him is not the same one he left behind. Gone is the man who made Luki smile with a simple phrase. In his place is a man struggling with pain so deep that lashing out is the only way he knows to keep his composure.

Secrets revealed. Obstacles.

I love Sonny and Luki and to see them fighting for their love was heartbreaking at times. However, I loved every minute of that struggle.

Lou Sylvre did an amazing job of bringing forth the emotions Luki and Sonny struggled with--both as individuals and as a couple. As Sonny's past revealed itself we see how far Sonny has come in life and how his past has shaped him.

We also see another side of Luki. He is more open about his emotions, more protective of Sonny and more emotionally invested in what their future holds.

Their connection, although somewhat threatened, continued to strengthened. Especially once they decided to give their relationship another try. There were times when I wanted to throttle them both for being too stubborn to realize their were being fools. Thankfully, their loved shined through with their every interaction, even during their arguments. It was a a treat to read Luki's thoughts when he was mad at Sonny and vice versa. These two are so right for each other that I was grinning even when I was fuming.

Betrayal. Danger.

It wouldn't be a Vasquez and James story without having Sonny and Luki facing some sort of danger. This time around it comes from an unexpected source, which added to the thrill of it. Especially when Lou Sylvre kept adding twist and turns to the story.

I admit, it was a bit overwhelming keeping track of the players. However, my curiosity won out and I stuck it out. I'm glad I did because that resolution was as intense and it was funny. Let it be known that Lou Sylvre writes a very entertaining villain, which paired with Luki's sarcastic remarks make for some great reading.

All in all, an interesting adventure in Luki and Sonny's journey to a happily ever after.

This book is part of a series and must be read in order Sonny is devastated over the loss of a loved one and sends Luki away. When Luki returns he has to battle with Sonny until he gives into his grief. Problems start to come up so taking a friend’s advice they take a short holiday where everything starts to fall apart and Luki finds it hard to even look at Sonny. Until things finally start to come together in his head.

Okay, the opening scene in this book broke my heart and I have to say kept affecting me throughout the entire book. Sonny has so much to cope with his guilt, his grief, his murderous rage and his love. With Luki by his side, he just might be able to cope with it all… until he nearly looses Luki. Luki is trying to support Sonny, while facing that he has changed. He isn’t the same person that he was before Sonny came into his life. Now he has a mystery to solve and he has to face the answers he discovers. But, even that doesn’t scare him as much as fearing he isn’t enough for Sonny and never will be.

This has to be one of only a few books that have tempted me to skip forward just to find out if what I suspect is true. It was really hard not to give in and cheat but I held off and it was well worth the wait. This is a complicated book to try to explain as you have the mystery of who, what and why, you have Sonny’s grief, guilt and loss, you have Luki’s doubts, fears and anger, there is action, suspense, heartbreak, fear, anger, romance, love, hot sex, some really touching scenes and somebody out to get them or to get something they have.

We find out more about Sonny’s past and some of it isn’t nice. But, it has molded him into the man he is now. There are also some truly romantic scenes between Luki and Sonny and not all of them lead to sex. The action scenes are well written and not over the top and the end action scene was really well executed and Luki’s fears were well-tended and brilliantly written.

A truly compelling story to read; it will have you gripped from the start and it will affect your emotions. So I have to recommend this to everyone, because it really does have something for everyone.

I wish I could like this series a lot more because in all honesty it isn't bad. I just find the writing to be incredibly dense - and it just doesn't have a certain flow I need with my stories.

Luki and Sonny's relationship has expanded and this book incorporates that. However, when Sonny's nephew dies under suspicious circumstances and Sonny is the number one suspect his grief takes over. He sends Luki away and starts to self-destruct. Luki licks his wounds for a grand total of five minutes before rushing back to help his lover. They both progress their relationship through the loss which I guess binds them more strongly. Then we get to the bottom of the whole charade and there is a lot a fall out.

The story is incredibly odd to me - Delsyn dies and Sonny loses the plot. Luki comes back and they're so in love, having loads of sex, buying wedding rings. I could honestly play a drinking game with the amount of times these words/phrases were used: I love you, sweetie and baby. HOLY HELL!

Then Sonny does a weird thing

Four and a half stars!
Sonny and Luki are back again in another action packed, suspense filled mystery. In this story we get a bigger glimpse at Sonny’s past. It made me want to hug Sonny at the same time as it helped to understand the way he is now. I hated what happened to Delsyn and would have liked for there to be a way to prevent it. There were some great clues for who the double crosser was, but Luki eventually figured it out. I actually thought it took him longer than it should have. There were a few places that lagged and I just wanted to get on with the story. But overall I enjoyed the second book in the Vasquez and James series. Luki and Sonny continued their tumultuous on-again, off-again, on-again relationship. I was happier with how things turned out at the end but obviously they still have more story to tell.

4.5 stars

Sometimes there are books that have such a good ending that I don't want a sequel. Then there are books that even with a good ending I feel like I need more. With this book,it was the latter. I liked the end of the first book but the sequel gave me the chance to get a better feeling for the characters and especially the Luki/Sonny relationship. Before,I was just too busy getting used to the unusual writing style and I couldn't really appreciate that Lou Sylvre created two amazing characters because Luki and Sonny definitely are both amazing. In book I actually reached the point where some of their scenes made me go "Awww" and that doesn't happen all that often ^^
Minus 0.5 stars because at some point during the whole Richard fiasco I felt that Luki overreacted quite a bit and I wanted to punch him *lol*

From my review; "Around these two multidimensional characters flow plots of great intricacy and deceit. And it reverberates from one story to the next, the past like a river who continues to overflow its banks and cover all the events to follow, its dirty waters touching everything and everyone in its path. Delsyn's Blues opens one year after the end of Loving Luki Vasquez. The men are separated and Delsyn is in a wheelchair due to his prior blood loss. What a painful beginning for all, readers and characters alike! From that moment on, we are in for one shock after another. And it won't stop until the book is over."

I always find it annoying when an author intentionally makes her story predictable for the sole purpose of making the main character do something utterly stupid or commit some blunder.

I thought this story was just as shaky as the first book. It was erratic even due to Sonny’s “crazy moments” regardless of the supposed reason behind them. His characterization was just way too inconsistent.

And if you think about it, Luki brought all these debacles into Sonny’s life yeah? Hate crimes, drugs and all ( Hello?! Mariano Royce then Ladd??!!!)

I also find the repetitive sentiments in the book annoying – the ringtones, the cartoon references, the cigarettes, Sonny’s ESP-like intuition. Too over the top and indulgent.

I did not enjoy this as much as the first book but I’d definitely give the next book in the series a try.

I am sorry to say that when I started reading this book I had no clue who Delsyn was...had to go back to book one and then it was a big "Ahhh" moment! That being said...on to the review...WONDERFUL story!!! Yep...that about says it all!!! haha Even though I had at least 100 interruptions while trying to read this book...every time I came back to it...the story just flowed!!! Luki...is someone that finds a place in your heart...and he just plans on staying there...and of course...you have to love Sonny for loving Luki!!! I am sure the guys have more trials to over come...but I bet much lovin' will get them through it all!!!

I enjoyed this follow up to the first book. It really starts out on a heartbreaking note. I was glad to see that both men made their way through it, with a few bumps. This event is a major point for the whole of the book.

The writing was well done. The characters really popped this time for me. The author did a good job in describing emotions and scenes. The only flaw and reason for 4 instead of 5 is that it was a bit repetitive with the couple's conflict situation. Also the language used by the couple is a bit...annoying after so many repetitions.

A solid 5 stars. This is a great series, and book 2 is even better than the first. There was a touch more steam and angst than in the first book--both appreciated. I love Luki and Sonny, even with their insecurities, bad habits and questionable histories. I feel connected to them. I can tell from the start of a conversation when one of them is going to get hurt, and I tense and often feel the threat of tears. Although these stories end positively, bad things happen--even to characters you really like--makes it seem more realistic than some.

Highly recommend!!
