3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ When I tell you the cliff hanger was SO GOOD! I was expecting one of them but the second had me gasping, GUSPING for air.
Such an easy read, a page turner really but the grammar and spelling was SO BAD, so bad that I just can’t rate it higher. The conversational sentences were not capitalized and the spelling was not US English(even though they were Americans-Italian, yes, but still American). I honestly think it could still use some heavy editing and then it’ll be 👌🏼.
This was okay, a good concept I think but not as well executed as I would have loved. I guess I missed that fact that it was a cliffhanger so that wasn't a fun surprise to have, especially also seeing that this book was released a year ago and I haven't seen anything from the author about the 2nd book coming out anytime soon. So if it does I may get back to the series, if it doesn't or I forget about it by the time it does, I'm okay with that too.
I liked the concept of the story well enough, the plot is reasonably solid, and the spice is ok I guess - so points for that; but the execution was amateur at best. This book needed a professional editor badly. Putting aside the spelling differences between British English and American English, there were many typos, grammatical errors, and flat out spelling mistakes throughout the entirety of the book. It pulled me out of the story too many times, and I highly doubt I'll be finishing the series. In my mind, the "cliffhanger" ending has been resolved and the MC's have an HFN.
Title: Sapphire Author: Bunny Brooks Series: Blood Stones (Book 1) Genre: Romance – Mafia – Reverse Harem Rating: 2.5 stars Format: Kindle Page Count: 328 Date Started: 08/28/24 Date Finished: 09/11/24 Summary/Final Thoughts: This is a good story, just executed poorly. The book needs some serious editing. Grammar and repetitive sentences, even wrong words were used a lot of the time. I found it entertaining enough to keep reading though. It’s not the worst book. But it could’ve been a lot better. Hoping book 2 is better, and the author is able to take the feedback from the readers!
My Rating System: 5 Stars: I wouldn’t change anything about this book. 4 Stars: Really enjoyed this book, but there were some flaws that I could easily overlook. 3 Stars: This book was okay, there were flaws that I just can’t overlook. 2 Stars: Not the worst book ever, but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone I like. 1 Star: Terrible. DNF. Would only recommend to people I hate.
DNF at 28%. FMC is a snobby bitch of the highest level while trying to mask it in "assertiveness". After being Mafia her whole life and being married to a much older, overweight balding man, now that she's suddenly in an arranged marriage to 3 incredibly gorgeous men who all want to be her husband she decides nows the time she's going to take control! No one can tell her to bee married to these 3 wealthy, attractive dangerous men who are in love and obsessed with her! Her choice! My god lady, get over yourself 🙄 Couldn't stand the FMC's personality and the overall group dynamic. I don't care for alpha females in romance. I do really like the cover though. Kudos for that
Book needs a strong edit. Multiple typos, weird sentence structures and repeated lines. I DNF’d but the plot has potential. If the book gets edited and certain sections flushed out and developed I would give it another shot. Just right now it’s not worth the time to read.
I will start from the end: it ends on a cliffhanger. A major one. And I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, before I started reading.
I will not read the rest of the story though. Just no. (Just looked it up and it's a 3 parter, of course, and last one hasn't been even published) The story line was simple at the beginning, then came up with an interesting twist- unfortunately I saw both from a mile away.
Other things: poorly written with lots of errors. The author doesn't like, for example, starting a sentence with a capital letter and is confused when to use does/do or is/are.
She also thinks that one of the heads of Italian mafia would order ”the sweetest rosè you have" to accompany carbonarra, osso bucco and olives 🥴. Gems like: "I rarely smoked so my lighter fluid probably dried up". Girl! Lighter fluid? Dried up? Do you even know how the lighter works?
I also loooved the scene where our heroine pops into the kitchen in the morning to make coffee and whips up .... home made cornetti (pastries similar to croissants). Do you know it would take 5+ hours working with even a simplified recipe? A two second google search would tell you that much.
I was also a little confused when one character apparently phoned himself .... 🙈 After that I just skimmed the rest to see what happens next. Not worth my time.
🔹Mafia 🔹Arranged marriage🔹RH🔹revenge & betrayal🔹insta lust / love
I liked the idea and how committed the guys were. It’s not often the MMCs actually plot to not only get but marry the FMC. And Dario, Salem and Enzo were definitely in it for the long haul.
They made good counterparts for Vannah who I hope will find her voice and stand her ground more in the next books.
I hope we will also get to know the guys on a more personal level as we only really learned about Enzo. The villain feels a bit cliche and immature with their reasons for going after Vannah but okay.
Most importantly, I really hope the next books will be reviewed by an editor because this one needed it (wrong tense, character names mixed up, wrong words etc). This unfortunately distracted me and took away from the story.
This is a reverse Harem, so obviously there will be more than one lover, that is okay, the premise is going with me. Here are some of the issues I have. I will try not to spoil.
Some of the sex scenes seemed almost forced to have as many of the lovers involved as possible. It should have been more natural in its growth instead of just BAM we are having a threesome/foursome.
Editing was sub par, words missing, sentences all over the place, words cut in half. Some editing issues I am okay with, people miss things, but this many seems to be a different type of issue.
It was touted as this great book on Tik Tok, which is why I bought it, and it is a dark romance, but it isn't.
POTENTIAL SPOILER ` ` ` ` ` ` ` Okay so the one thing that she wants the most in life, the one thing that she would die without, and her lovers take that away from her. Nah that is just crappy, even by their standards. The book doesn't end on a HEA or a HFN or really anything. It ends with the air being punched out of the MFC and that is where it ends. Even with romance that are part of a book of multiple, you should at least have a glimpse of how the offending party should be able to rectify it or how maybe they are only mad at 1 of the 3 or whatever. No if I was the MFC I would stop at nothing less than their empire burning to the ground and them with it, There is absolutely NO WAY that the MFC being the type of person she is in the book would just be like "Nah you took this away from me, but its all gravy, I will still be in bed with you." No I would take them for all they are worth, burn their empire to the ground and laugh while I dance on their graves. after doing the dutiful wife thing and crying at the funeral as I also own EVERYTHING if my husband was to die.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Editing - My poor little Alpha/Arc heart just wanted to edit so much! And I’m talking BEYOND basic grammar mistakes. This plot has so much room to be expanded and given a boost. Holes are begging to be filled!! 😉
Attention to details - there were some interesting angles and positions happening if things were hitting things on opposite sides of where they should have been 🤔
Repeated notions and mixed paragraphs - 1. “but Enzo’s were stilted.” Two sentences later.. “It was clumsy and stilted”.
2. “Despite the fact we’d only just had …, the lust in his eyes was obvious – even if his … hadn’t bounced back as quickly. Enzo sucked onto my c…” - This sentence has no need to be here in this paragraph.
3. There’s only so many times in ONE scenario that I can read the words “Salem laughed” let alone the amount of times I read it through out the book. My view of Salem now is that the man clearly thinks everything is a joke, surely he has other reactive emotions?
Overall the plot has guts! The story has the potential to be something amazing but it needs a serious overhaul and if the author ever decides to revamp please hit me up because I did honestly love the story! 🥳
I went into Sapphire by Bunny Brooks thinking the premise sounded wild in a fun way. Giovannah Bianchi, daughter of a Mafia boss, agrees to an arranged marriage to Dario Conti, the leader of a rival mafia, only to discover she is not just marrying Dario but two other men as well. Suddenly she is thrown into a polygamous marriage with Matusalemme Galluci, a self-proclaimed psycho enforcer, and Vincenzo Rossi, who is one spark away from exploding with his obsessive feelings for her. On top of juggling three husbands, Vannah also has to deal with someone out to kill her.
Honestly, though, this book just did not work for me. I only made it about 70 pages in before giving up, because the writing was already on the wall. The prose felt really immature, the characters were flat stereotypes, and the romance was pure instalove with no real foundation. The plot came across as way too simplistic, and instead of being over the top entertaining, it just felt kind of ridiculous. I even stuck around for a bit hoping at least the smut might deliver, but it did not.
Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me, and I will not be continuing with this series or author.
This story starts at a funeral. FMC lost both her husband and child *tear* (No not sarcasm). Due to being in a mafia family, she is forced to remarry right after…Just so happens they have been wanting to marry her since her first wedding…. Yes, you read that correctly! She thought she was getting 1 husband but got 3! What a lucky lady! Even though she is instantly attracted to all 3 she isn’t sure about being married to all 3 and decides to take charge of who she will be with, which I love! There isn’t much editing, if any, done on this book…so if something like that bothers you then this book is not for you. All of the MCs have their own personalities and stories but not all of them are fully developed.
Plot: It’s there but could be better. The concept the author was going for is great but wasn’t executed right. Spice: it’s there… but I would give it a 1.5 on the chilli meter and that is being generous.
Does end on a cliffhanger but I doubt I will be reading the next one
I was intrigued enough by the premise that I thought I could get past the lack of ANY editing whatsoever, but it got too bad.
I can usually ignore a couple typos or grammatical errors, but I’ve never seen a book — self-published or not — use punctuation so terribly that I’ve had to stop reading, especially with the dialogue.
Ex. “Finishing nearly every line of dialogue like this”. “Or even leaving out punctuation after dialogue” like this
I don’t mean to sound snooty, but you don’t need a degree in writing to learn this stuff. These are basic punctuation rules you can just pick up from reading other books, which makes me feel like a lack of care was put into this book or writing in general.
And if you can’t get commas right, please just stay away from attempting semi-colons, I beg.
I liked this book and how things were going until I realized this was made into 3 books. I’m not going to lie. I’m not a girl that needs smut in everything I’m reading but apart from the spice there was barely anything interesting about the mafia antics happening here for me to want to read 2 more books. At the end of the book, the villain reveals their motives and it just seems stupid and dramatic for no reason. I wasn’t even interested in finding out more.
I really wanted to find out if vanna’s relationship with Enzo was going to develop but it’s not enough of a motivation to read through very very boring mafia antics. It’s also boring because the only “romance” happening in the book was vanna and Enzo. Other connections were just sexual.
This could be an amazing book but two things need to happen:
1. An aggressive grammar, spelling, and correct word placement check 2. Bring dimension to the characters
There is tons of stuff just thrown in here and I think it could benefit from a paring down of some excess (like the bit about people who own planes??? Why?) and some full fleshing out of other things, like you can’t tell me that Salem has zero guilt about what happened to Enzo.
Honestly making the characters feel a bit more real and having them actually grow together a bit at a pace that seems believable within the story would kick this up to 4/5 stars easy even with the editing errors.
The plot was good for this book, I enjoyed each character! The only reason this is missing the fifth star is due to the random/almost frequent spelling errors, some of the sentence structures did not work in other areas, and the FMC was rude to the serving staff, justified it by calling herself a “food snob” it was a huge ick and I had to wait a while to come back to the book lol. I really did enjoy the story once I got past that, those are just nit picks as well so definitely take them with a grain of salt. Most of the errors are almost unnoticeable unless you are reading out loud, and it didn’t change the plot or structure at all. Over all I would probably read again!
This book is about Vannah and how she came to be with her guys. Dario, Enzo and Salem have loved her from afar for a long time. When Vannah’s husband dies suddenly they step up to the plate and offer to marry her. But not everything is paradise as Vanna’s life if threatened. This book starts off right after Dario marries Vannah. There are some twists and learning curves for everyone. This book does end on a cliffhanger but it is very much worth the read. I would recommend this book for someone who likes mafia RH romance where he falls first and she makes them work for her love.
The cliffhanger? I didn’t even want to read book 2 & wasn’t planning on it… but now? I guess I’ll see if I change my mind when the time comes! If you can get past the fact that this is missing editing (like: spelling, grammar, misplaced words) then go on! The concept/story is THERE but it is seriously missing a few key components to kick this up a few stars. I’d certainly edit the hell out of this thing & make the characters a little more dimensional. Also—for all the good girls—there’s minimal spice, maybe 🌶️ & 1/2. Overall 2.5 ⭐️s rounded down because I love proper spelling and grammar too much to overlook it & it definitely hindered my ability to enjoy reading this.
The concept was good and that's really the only reason I've given it two starts. Spelling, grammar, character flow and development - all of these needed some HEAVY editing. The three MMCs were at least different - basic character types with a little mafia spice sprinkled on top - but the dynamic between them all felt so stunted. I feel a lot of that had to do with how their conversations were written. The ending was a great cliffhanger and I will definitely be checking out the next book. Hopefully the author will take more time for editing.
The story and characters in Sapphire are VERY good! I was drawn in right away and loved the dynamics and banter among the main characters. Having said that…I’m only giving it 3 stars because the multiple wrong words, spelling and grammar errors were so distracting that it took me twice as long to read and several times I wanted to not even finish the book! I very rarely leave a bad review, but these errors could easily been avoided by having a proper proofread and editing.
This is the first book with grammar and spelling errors I’ve given a 5 star. The story is complex and the plot line sucks you in. The characters development is great, the world building is just enough to give you an idea but allow your own imagination to take over. That ending left me rethinking everything and excited for the next book. I felt emotions both happy and sad. I laughed out loud more than once. If you like a good reverse harem that has an actual story line with your spice, this is for you.
I loved this book. Has love, heartbreak and personal growth. Vannah has been through somethings but her men have helped her become stronger and she now can speak her mind and demand respect. Her men Love and cherish her each in their own way. Sometimes they go to far but it is for her even though she may not get over it. Bunny Brooks you have written an amazing book and I can’t wait for book 2! Love and hate you for the cliffhanger but I’ll forgive you when I can read book 2. ❤️
4- I paused at 45% because I realized it ends on a cliffhanger (and I don’t do cliffhangers unless I can roll right into the next one). So yes, definitely editing issues but honestly so far the story was keeping me engaged enough it wasn’t a big issue. And I say that as someone who has DNF’d a book because the editing kept jarring me out of the story - this was not the case here. I plan to come back when the full story is complete! So I’m not marking it DNF because it’s isn’t, I’m just waiting to read until I can finish the whole story 😊
Dario, Salem, and Enzo are great, and I like them with Vannah. The low star rating was for the spelling and sentence structure. It distracted me too much from the story, to the point I was rewording sentences in my head to make it flow better or even make sense. If it was here or there, it would have been exceptble, but it wasn't. Get a good proofreader and fix those mistakes, and star value would go up a lot.
the concept of this book is great and the story is solid. I can kinda look past some of the spellings and grammar (and sometimes the author mixes up the names of who is where too). it could do with a good edit. but an indie author, mother of toddler, self published. it's really promising.
I'll be reading the next book to support the author and because I'm genuinely interested in the next book...
I’m convinced that the first draft of this book is what got published because there’s no way it’s been thru even a cursory round of edits. I simply just couldn’t take it anymore and the FMC is a major food snob but not in a cute, quirky way. She literally bullied old people over osso bucco. She’s a weirdo
I wanted to really like this book but it needs an editor. The plot seemed to drag in places and then the reader would get slammed with a crazy amount of details within two paragraphs which made for a very inconsistent read. I did like the premise of the story but I don’t think I would recommend to anyone. Smut was a two maybe three out of five spice.
Vannah Dario Salem and Enzo 4/5 ⭐️ 3/5🌶 Ends on a cliffhanger 💔 Why choose Arranged Marriage Mafia romance Some triggers check the warning ⚠️
After Vannahs husband dies she is sent to marry Dario. Not everything is as it seems because she's not only married to Dario but also his two most trusted men.
4 ⭐️ I have never read a book more in need of editing/beta readers but the story was so compelling that I gave it four stars anyway. It’s supposed to be a trilogy but it’s been a year and book 2 still isn’t out.
I need to know what happens to Vannah and her 3 husbands because omg they’ve come too far for it to end now WHERE IS BOOK TWO
