The vampire drug, brew, nearly ruined Gwen Sparks’ life. Just when things started to get back to normal between her and Aiden, she is summoned by the North American Witches Council to their central city of Moon. A war is imminent between vampires and witches, and Gwen’s experiences with brew are being used to fuel the fire. She is about to discover just how powerful she is with the help of the ruggedly handsome Angel of Death and just how far some people will go to get what they want. Gwen is going to learn exactly what it means to be Deceived.
Stephanie Nelson resides in Illinois with her husband and their furry children. She began writing five years ago as a hobby and quickly fell in love with storytelling. She’s been teased about being a vampire due to her night-owl ways. However, she claims to only write about the fanged and not be part of their ranks. When she’s not working on the next Gwen Sparks or Anna Avery adventure, she enjoys: reading, traveling, playing the Wii and spending time with her family. The best part of her job is connecting with her readers.
So many paranormal fantasy end up with love triangles as a central problem. I have said on many occasions that I am not a fan especially in adult fiction. While I tolerate them in YA, I feel that adults should be able to recognize the difference between physical attraction and actual love. I am happy to say that Stephanie Nelson handles this issue with brilliance.
Gwen Sparks is still reeling from her encounter with the vampire Ian Despereaux. He manipulated her into bonding with him and now he haunts her dreams and waking hours. He even attempts to violate her body. However, the witches council has decided that they have had enough of the vampire attacks against their kind and have call a meeting. Holly, one of the council members has declared that contact between vampire and witches is now strictly forbidden because they are on the brink of war. This is upsetting to say the least because Gwen in in love with a vampire, Aiden.
Additionally, Holly has commanded that training for war is to begin. She has even enlisted the help of death himself, Dorian to assist Gwen with 'Spirit Walker' training. Try as she must to ignore it, she recognizes that she and Dorian are attracted to each other. Now, this is the part I alluded to earlier, Gwen fights her attraction to Dorian while declaring her love for Aiden. She recognizes that you can enjoy a great work of art; but realize that it would be out of place in your living room. If you know what I mean.
I would love to tell you that all of Gwen's loyalty was worth it. However, there are deadly betrayals that will be revealed. While I had an inkling of one, I had no idea about the other and when it was revealed, it just rocked my reading world. I loved the fact that Ms. Nelson keep me on my reading toes. Finally, the ending left me shell shocked. Don't cha just love it!
I want to give it another star but this book needs editing. It got worse as it went along. I do like the story and I will get the next book but I hope the editing was done with more detail.
Gwen's been called to Moon, the city where the NAWC make their home, as the Witches Council decide to take matters into their own hands over Brew (a highly addictive vampire "drug" which puts witches in harms way since it's their blood that's the drug). Head of the Council, Holly, has decided it's time for Gwen to come into her power so she can be the Council's "secret weapon". This means Gwen must train with the Angel of Death, Dorian, to fully discover what it means to be a spirit walker.
If you read Craved (book 1 in the Gwen Sparks Series), we met a Gwen Sparks who was trying to heal her broken heart and live a somewhat normal life. In Deceived, Gwen is torn between her desire to help the Witch Council rid the Brew issue and the Council's edict that all vampires are bad and must be eradicated. Considering her boyfriend is Adrian, a 600+ year old Italian vampire, that edict causes issues. Her other issue is being used as a "Secret Weapon" for the council. In addition to those pretty big issues, she also has a hard time dealing with the change in her and Fiona's relationship and her attraction to Dorian.
As a reader, it's almost like all of Gwen's emotions leap off the pages at you. Those emotions make it easy for you to connect with her and become engrossed in the storyline. She stands up for herself, is willing to go out on a limb for a cause she believes in and calls people on their BS when it's getting a little deep. She also someone who takes her powers for granted. It's refreshing to see her question why she should do something, just because she can. For Gwen alone I would love this series.
But Gwen isn't the only character that will draw you in. Adrian and Dorian both engage the readers at an emotional level. Adrian's feelings for Gwen are always right in front of you and while he may not always take the best path when trying to cement his relationship with Gwen, you always know what he feels for Gwen. Dorian on the other hand tries to mask his feelings, but when he does make them know you have to wonder how anyone can deny him.
Council drama, vampire politics, eradication of a shared enemy and the ultimate betrayal round out the plot to this second installment. It's witty, edgy, and emotional read. It will wrap you in the world of Gwen Sparks from the very first paragraph and make it almost impossible to put down.
After reading Craved, I wasn't really sure what direction Deceived would take other than the obvious insinuation that Gwen Sparks would be betrayed in some sense. What I discovered shocked me. Poor Gwen is betrayed more than once and her life is turned upside down. In Craved, she had learned that she was actually part Spirit Walker, which meant she had a connection with ghosts. At least that's all she thought it was. In reality she has a connection with the entire world of the dead including being able to have out of body experiences where she is still capable of all her powers as a witch. In my experience, most authors take the idea of astral projection to be the person floating outside their body and unable to do anything. Stephanie Nelson gives it a whole different perspective that I found refreshing and very enjoyable.
I will say to those people who are really picky, there are some typos in the book that I actually didn't really notice until I read another person's complaining review about the typos. I think the story is good enough that you can ignore those just to enjoy the story. Instead, find yourself caught up in Gwen's desire to be with her beloved vampire Aiden while trying to learn to be a spirit walker from the hunky angel of death Dorian, training for the upcoming Vampire-Witch war, and overall wishing to return to her "normal" life. I don't want to give away too much about the plot because it will surprise you and you deserve to read it yourself. Let's just say that at the end, you aren't sure who will win over Gwen. Will Aiden be the only one for her or will Dorian weasel his way into her heart? Personally I am cheering for Dorian. I just hope that in the next book, Coveted, that Gwen will get to see what Dorian REALLY looks like. It's exciting and will leave you wanting more!
This book was amazing. I have to agree that it was better then the first. That's hard to believe because the first one was so good! I loved the new characters, especially Dorian. The book has so many twists and turns its hard to anticipate whats going to happen next, but those are the kind of books you can't help but love because you can't put them down. I didn't even sleep and read right on through the night till I was done. Can't wait till the next one! Stephanie is an amazing writer and I am sure the next one will top even this!!!!
This book was quite a bit better than the first one. I'm not sure if it's because:
a)I now know the characters good enough. b)The manipulation of the characters were intense. c)The book was just written better.
Either way this book was a lot better, it grasp my attention. However I'm still not feeling that emotional link with the characters like I do with other novels similar to this. I really hope I will because I absolutely abhor not being able to have that connection. It's like 50% of the reason why enjoy reading these books.
I really enjoyed the story and character development. Introduction of new characters was a plus and I am excited to see the series grow. I love the friendship between Gwen and the "angel of death" Dorian and am anxious to see what happens there; tho I still love the relationship between Aiden and Gwen and pray that continues as his love for her is amazing. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book that keeps it very interesting.
Holy cow, my heart got lost in this book some where and I need help finding it! It was so flipping good. Damit I love Aiden, and you do learn some of his history, but shit did he break my heart like he broke Gwen's. Please keep them together Stephanie, they are an awesome couple. That is not to say I did not notice Dorian though.... wink wink ;) Now it's just waiting for book 3, THE TORTURE!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
All I can say is wow, this book was so good. It took the characters to a whole new level. The story line was genius, and I loved the new characters that were added. I read the book in a day, I couldn't put it down. Everyone needs to buy and read this book immediately! Stephanie Nelson is my new favorite author.
Warning: This is a rant. A long winded rant. And there are spoiler-type things ahead and I'm not taking the time to try and edit everything out that might need it. You've been warned. If you liked this book and are looking at this, I'm sorry, but we do not agree. I'm glad it worked for you, and I'm glad somebody could enjoy this. But not me.
Again, you've been warned. I'm not happy. I wasted $4 dollars. And I'm done.

For those that read my last review, you are aware that it was only a thin margin of 'like' that made me go and actually purchase this book from the kindle store to read it. I said it had to improve, and improve a lot, in order for me to continue the series.
And as I think you can tell from my one-star rating... it did not. If anything, it got worse.
Firstly, and I know it's not the most important to some people, but it really bugs the crap out of me. Grammar. Mechanics. Words repeated and words left out and improper tense and forgotten 's' at the end of words meant to be plural and... so many typos and errors and... UGH! I thought about stopping my reading at 40%, half because of the typos.
Half because I no longer like Gwen. She is no longer my cup of tea. And I'm sorry, I know I'm in the minority with this book apparently, but I could not get on her page this time. There were moments when I liked her in the last book... but not this one.
Fiona is not a friend. I sometimes wonder if she ever was a real friend. And I'm sorry again if others don't agree, but a real friend does not continue to pick up love-interests and then get mad at you because you don't like them. And why don't you like them? Because they keep glaring at you!!!
Ever single character in this book has some form of bipolar, I swear it. Gwen more than anyone. One minute she's attracted to someone. The next, she hates their guts and it doesn't matter how attractive they are. One minute she's accepted her status as a spirit walker, and the next, her acceptance of it is still up in the air. There are so many contradictory statements in this book that I couldn't stop asking at least twice or three times every chapter, "But you literally just said..."
And I don't see how an entire army can be assembled in, like, a week or less, and how people who have never trained this hard before, can somehow be trained and ready for war, in such a short timeframe. Unless the story is supposed to have taken place over a few months rather than a few days. If so, then it was not made apparent enough how much time passed over the course of this book. And if it was just a few days, then I'm sorry, but it's completely unrealistic. (Yes I know, this is a supernatural, fantasy type book. I still stand by my statement.)
Also, this is supposed to be an adult book. Like, the tags don't tell you that, but Gwen is 28 I think, so she's nearing thirty, so she's not a young adult anymore. And yet, I feel like that's how the minds of literally everyone in this book behaved. Or perhaps even more like middle-schoolers in some cases. Even some of the supposed 'elders', 'council members', the older people. You get it. No one acted their age. (And for reference, I do love young-adult fiction. When it's done right. And even if that's what this was meant to be... it wouldn't have been done right in my opinion.)
Dorian... I'm sorry, he didn't do it for me. He was less of a problem than some characters, but he was still a pain. I do not see the appeal. He had his mood swings too, none of which are ever properly explained in my opinion. I just... I just...
I'm stopping now. I need to stop. This book was not it for me. Too many errors, too many characters that annoyed me to the point of wanting to stop reading rather than push through, and too much jumping around in opinions and manners and thoughts and... Okay, I'm done.
I leave you with only this. If you have already read this book and loved it, I have nothing but love for you. Not all books are for all people, and that's fine. It just so happens that this one was not for me.
Vampires have created a drug using witches blood, it makes them stronger but is also highly addictive. Gwen gets called to the main base of the witches council and they are the worst. They basically say all vampires, innocent or not, essentially are guilty because one day they could have the drug. Gwen just stands there like an idiot while the experiences she had with Aiden are twisted to incite anger...she says nothing. The only person in the few chapters I read that was worth my time was the woman who walked out because her daughter is a vampire. Essentially Gwen goes along with this awful policy put in place by awful people because she doesn't want to be ostracized by the witch community. However if you have any morals or sense of right and wrong then this is exactly the kind of group you want to be ostracized from.
AAA what happend with the nice surprise the first book gave me? It took me so long to finish this book, I just got bored with it. I don't know if I will find the will to read the next one
Deceived is the second book in the Gwen Sparks series and follows from where Craved left off; where vampires have learned the secret of drinking the blood of witches, called brew, that allows them to adopt the witch’s power. At the end of the last book witch and newly discovered spirit walker, Gwen, was bound to a vampire who started the whole brew obsession, saved her vampire boyfriend from his brew addiction, and managed to get herself in trouble with the witch’s council. This book focuses on the aftermath of the first book, as the witches try to deal with being prey to vampires, and it also deals quite a lot with Gwen’s powers and what she is actually capable of. The witch’s council have decided to start a war against the vampires in order to ensure their future, a war that has a very dubious reasons behind it that end up being quite personal, but Gwen does not want any part of it, and not just because her boyfriend, Aiden, is a vampire. She doesn’t believe that all vampires are bad, and thinks that a lot of innocents will be killed, but she appears to be the only voice of reason among the community of terrified witches. Gwen is trained for the upcoming war, and the council enlists the help of Dorian, the angel of death, who has a strong attraction to Gwen given that she can communicate with the dead. Among all this Gwen is trying to find a way to break her bond with Ian, who is beginning to haunt her dreams, as well as her waking hours, and the vampires agree to help, but only if the war can be called off. Eventually, Gwen has to confront her nemeses and is the single thing preventing an all out war between vampires and witches.
The title of the book appears to be correct, and Gwen is deceived more than one by those she trusts. The most striking here is Aiden’s betrayal, but I have to admit that I thought there would be a better reason for him going behind her back like he did. I think that the fact he admitted to draining a witch to death was a bigger bombshell that his involvement in Ian’s bond to Gwen and the reasons why he allowed this to happen. But since he did play his hand in this, it is confusing as to why he is so angry when Ian begins to haunt Gwen, as he had to have expected things like that would happen. The one thing that I really did like about this book was Gwen coming into her powers, being visited by ghosts, and actually going into the ghostly realm for the first time. Her character has come so far from the young woman who ran a spell shop and was living in a crappy apartment with her best friend, and even though she just wants to return to a simpler time, I don’t think that is possible for her anymore. The attraction between Dorian and Gwen seems very real, and in some part makes more sense than her relationship with Aiden. In the first book she and Aiden had a history, which was not really explained, but he had been wooing her for two years and she refused to give into him, but in this book it doesn’t really seem like they should be together, and I don’t think they will be anymore after Adrian’s part in all this was revealed.
I found the writing in this book worlds better than the first, and I felt that Gwen had a stronger voice and was more grown up. There was such a sense of isolation for her at one point that I felt made her so much stronger, and it kind of gave you the feeling that all hell was about to break loose. The ending of the book was good setup for the sequel, but I hope that Gwen’s trial does not take up too much of the next book. With the lead antagonist for the past two books gone I am interested to see what happens from here, especially in regards to brew, which I still think is a really original and great idea. I would touch on the fact that all the spelling and grammatical issues in this book were still present (as they really annoyed me in the first one), and although some people don’t care, it just draws me out of a book when I have to read a sentence three times because a few of the words are in the wrong tense, or look like they have forgot to be taken out, or have no place in the sentence at all. I read this book on my e-reader, so the formatting was a lot better, as the paperback for the first book had numerous issues like that and it drove me insane. But these are editing problems, and I didn’t have any issues with the story, the characters, or the concepts.
Just when Gwen thought her life was as insane as ever, she is contacted by the NAWC (North American Witches Council). The NAWC want to initiate a war against the vampires since they won't do anything to stop vampires from using Brew, witches' blood. So things are worse for Gwen since none of the witches trust her since she is dating Aiden who is a vampire. But they need her since she has a power that none of them have, she is a spirit walker. She can connect with ghosts and be apart of the world of the dead through astral protection. To help her learn more about her power, the witches bring in Dorian, a very sexy Angel of Death. And she still hasn't figured out what to do about the psychotic vampire Ian who has bonded himself to her.
Talk Supe came through for me again and loaned this to me. I absolutely loved Craved and Deceived was even better. The title says it all. I didn't want to believe it would happen, but you knew it was coming. Not to mention, Talk Supe rubbed it in. So mean guys! But if Stephanie Nelson isn't on your favorites list by now, what are you waiting for?
Gwen has once again kicked a lot of ass in this book. She discovers she has a lot of power. So much so, that the witches want her to play a major role in the war against the vampires. They do believe she is a traitor since she is with Aiden, but they want her power and will train her to use it. She will be their secret weapon. She has the power to astral project and speak to ghosts. But the witches want Gwen to speak to very specific ghosts. These ghosts are of people who were killed by the vampires themselves. Aiden and Gwen are combustible together and I am sure by the title, you know how things go. But I still want the whole story. Was it for personal gain or for Gwen? I am still not sure. I know this makes no sense unless you read it, it is hard not to spoil. I will stop right here.
Then we have Dorian. Oh Dorian!!!! I do enjoy Aiden, but Dorian is more up my alley. Definitely has that bad boy vibe and being an Angel of Death, that can't be more true. Someone said this and I am so glad they did because I thought it was just me. But something about Dorian reminds me of Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, so that is a plus. Dorian and Gwen have soooo much chemistry and he is hilarious. He definitely grabbed my attention quickly. I was unsure whether to trust him at first though since he was brought in by Holly. Holly is the lead witch of NAWC and hates Gwen, but wants her power. But she is definitely hiding something and I don't trust her at all. And then we have Ian. The guy is awful and evil and he definitely reminds you of that. He does something truly awful to Gwen in this book that left a really bad taste in my mouth.
This book was fast paced. Gwen wants to have a normal life so bad, but every time she turns around, she is placed in the middle of something. I love that she doesn't get onboard with the vampire-witch war because of Aiden. She actually fights for it and gets them to sit down in the same room together. That was definitely something I didn't think anyone could do. And the ending is insane. We figure out Ian's plan and who all the players are and my mouth was dragging to the floor. I need some answers right now. I am still thinking about it. This book definitely leaves a mark.
This series is a must-read! It is everything I want in an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance series. The characters are amazing especially Dorian. He was satisfying right up to the very last sentence which left a smile on my face. There are a few grammar/spelling issues, but they don't get in the way, trust me. This is a great modern day witch story. Deceived is sexy, full of intrigue, conspiracies, and plenty of mystery. Do not miss this series. Also for Gwen and Dorian fans, they have their own short story in an anthology that just came out. Go check it out here: Cupid Painted Blind
Dorian Hade..... and that is all I really need to say.....nah just kidding I can say more. Well, if Dorian didn’t swoop in and steal my heart?
I must have a thing for reapers, I am Team Tod in the Soul Screamers series and I am waving Dorian’s flag like a fan girl. I LOVE the way Stephanie writes this guy. I love the angst and the tense moments. I really enjoy the moments Gwen and Dorian are together as it’s not about bonking, it’s much more. Gwen and Dorian just ‘feel’ suited.
Aiden , I love your uber smexi wham bam moments, I’m not complaining about the bonking , but I am having trouble still, finding some depth with his character. He ticks all the boxes of gorgeous guy, but I want more. I did learn a thing or two about the humble ice cube........yowzer!
See, who needs to visit the adult shop and buy expensive things?
Nobody answer that..ha!
Dorian is deliciously laid out on a silver platter for me, I think all boxes are ticked even though he hasn’t christened/checked that *&^......look I was going to say it, but that would be a terrible pun to use.
Oh the back stabbing that goes on...deary me, who can Gwen trust?
Gwen is off to ‘Moon’, no not the moon or to moon somebody....hehe!! I couldn’t help myself, sorry, but to a place called Moon, to train and learn her witchy ways. She is after all, the person needed to end the war that is brewing ( sorry I couldn’t help myself) between Vampires and Witches, because of ...well some Brew that was brewed. ( sometimes Michelle you can use one too many puns) I don’t think I personally ‘felt’ the whole danger of the war. I felt the danger of Dorian and Gwen getting it on.
Ian , is being Ian and using his mind mojo/bond to do some quite over the line things to Gwen. It was a tad uncomfortable reading those bits, as it was a tad over the line.
I did enjoy the slew of new sub characters that came our way. Some of the sub characters from ‘Craved’ just dropped away. I would put that down to being no longer in Flora, but now Moon.
Stephanie throws in a twist or two in this book, which I liked and a few spanners are thrown into the works...* waggles eyebrows *
Fiona is being a tad distant and I am not sure why?
There are secrets that Dorian and Kye are especially keeping close to their heart. No we don’t know what they are, maybe ‘Coveted’ will enlighten me.
Speaking of ‘Coveted’, I am really looking forward to more Dorian, and seeing where Stephanie takes the storyline.
Another easy, fun read with uber smexi, gorgeous lads, betrayal, back stabbing, murder and mayhem, lust and tension.
I still want a wonderful publisher to grab hold of this series with two hands, pass it on to a super editor to wrap their arms around it and give it a cuddle.
At the end of this digital book , there was a short excerpt for Stephanies new series, ‘Anna Avery Series’, titled , ‘Taming The Wolf’. I just want to say how awesome the cover is. If you keep looking you see more things. Stephanie has very, very nice covers to her books. I am looking forward to reading this book.

Deceived is the second book in Nelson's Gwen Sparks series and all I have to say is OMG! Sex, Lies, and danger await the reader in this FANGTASTIC book. Nelson doesn't hold anything back, and continues to write a story that has me on the edge of my seat, neglecting my household chores, and keeping me up all night as I just could NOT put this book down.
Even though Aiden's addiction to Brew is gone, and he and Gwen are able to begin to get their relationship back to normal, witches are still being murdered. The magical powers that the vampires gain through drinking their blood is the ultimate high. Something has to be done. The killing has to stop.
Being summoned to Moon by Holly; Gwen's "friend" and council member of the North American Witches Council, informs her of "the plan". A plan that she will play a critical role in. The NAWC has vengeance on their mind and a war between the witches and vampires is on the horizon. However, it seems Holly is a little off base. She wants to kill ALL vampires, not just the Brew users, and that doesn't bode well with Gwen.
Fear of being shunned by her kind, Gwen agrees to begin her training in all matters of Spirit Walkers, and keeps her visits with Aiden on the down low.
After practicing with Kye a few times, she is surprised to find that he has been replaced by Dorian, the perfect specimen of a man. Tall, dark, brooding, and those eyes! Who knew the a Reaper could be so yummy! Adding her almost instant attraction to him into the mix of the other problems she's facing, and the continued invasion of Ian into her dreams; which get a little steamy, is almost to much. Have no fear however, Gwen and Aiden find a way to end the war before it stars, and sever the bond between her and Ian to boot. All it will take is a little blood, Gwen's blood to be exact.
When the time comes though, Gwen finds the truth and not only will her heart be broken by those she trusted, but her very fragile life is at stake. Can Dorian give her the confidence she needs? Read it and find out.
There were a significant amount of mistakes in the manuscript I received, but after contacting the author I was informed that an edited version will become available very soon. If that is the case, I cannot help but to continue to give this amazing series the highest rating.
BTW Stephanie, I am totally ready for some Gwen and Dorian romance. I'm just saying.
Two things we can learn from this book: One, nothing is as it seems and two, trust only yourself. Yeah, that’s right, Gwen is going to be really surprised in this book and you will love it! “Deceived” is the second book in the Gwen Sparks series by Stephanie Nelson and it’s a book I enjoyed.
Witches and vampires are going to war. Now that vampires know that witches’ blood gives them power, the witches believe that they have to stop them from taking it. Gwen is in a very difficult position because of her relationship with Aiden, the sexy vampire. This relationship makes her a target for gossips and things aren’t getting better. But soon, Gwen, finds herself into a web of lies. Can she handle the truth?
Although, I really like Gwen from the first book, there were some things that I didn’t particularly like. For example, I think that she is easily attracted to other men. Of course, she didn’t do anything to be unfaithful but something wasn’t right. Another thing that I didn’t like, is that sometimes she was very judgmental to Aiden. Yes, she had good reasons but she didn’t even hear his side of the story! Nevertheless, Gwen was as always brave, strong and witty and she did her best under very difficult circumstances.
Aiden in this book had some problems. He did some mistakes in the past and now that the truth is out he knows that he has many things to lose. For some reason, I understand why he did what he did and I think that deserves a second chance, but I’m not sure if Gwen agrees with me!!
Dorian is a new character in the book. I liked him from the start because he’s a very confident man, he has sense of humor and he’s smart. It was obvious from the beginning that he wants Gwen. To be honest? For the first time, as a reader, I can’t decide whom I prefer to be with the female main character! I know that Aiden had secrets but it’s unfair to tell that he is bad. And Dorian, is a great guy! Tough choice!
Something else that it felt weird to me while I was reading the book is the behavior of Fiona. I really can’t imagine a best friend who acts like her. Although, she kept Gwen’s secrets and was there for her in some difficult moments, I had the feeling that her priorities were elsewhere and she was kind of bored when she was around Gwen! I hope I’m wrong!
Very nice plot in this second book of the series, and so, I’m looking forward for the next one!
Gwen has been summoned to Moon by the NAWC to train for the possible war with the vampires. Witches are being murdered by vampires so the witches blood can be sold as a highly addictive drug to vampires called Brew. Although the NAWC has requested the Vampire Counsel take action against the offending vampires the VC has made no move to rectify the situation. The NAWC has no choice but to declare war against all vampires for the secret of the witches blood is out and could mean the end of their race as they know it. Gwen must learn to use her Spirit Walker powers so she can successfully be the NAWC's secret weapon. Secrets are uncovered. Hearts are broken. Friendships are lost. Those who trusted are betrayed.
***SPOILERALERT*** About 75% of the way through, I figured a major plot twist that should have been revealed in the last 10% of the book. I kept hoping I was wrong and that there was a twist in the twist, but I wasn't. I knew something wasn't right with a love interest, but thank goodness I did not figure out the details. There were clues from some of the supporting characters that I really thought Gwen should have picked up on, but she was being very dense. Then there was a part, when the villain pointed out that Gwen was being obtuse, but I really didn't get it either. There were some questions unanswered, but I'm holding out hope that they are being held over to the next installment. I totally feel for Gwen because the whole spirit world was confusing to me, maybe I'm the one being dense this time. Another love interest seems to come out of nowhere. One minute he's her teacher, the next he is upset that Gwen doesn't see "what is right in front of her." Don't worry Gwen, I didn't see it either until he made mention of it. There is something off about Aidan's motivation for doing what he has done. It just doesn't ring true. The defeat of the main villain seemed anticlimactic. When it happened, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the read. It was a fast read. DECEIVED held my interest and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. I look forward to seeing how the love triangle will be resolved as well as how the loose ends will be tied up from book 2.
A lot was revealed in this second installment of the Gwen Sparks series. New characters were introduced and some faded away. It looks like Gwen and Fiona may not be friends for much longer. I rather like Dorian. Glad to see him sticking around a while. I still like Aiden, so I wonder what's going to happen there after the secrets have been revealed.
Gwen learns more about her spiritwalker abilities through training with Dorian. She also sees just how much she is everyone's pawn. Seriously, this girl gets played like a piano by just about everyone around her. The only one that didn't seem to be playing her was Dorian. It was obvious from the beginning that Holly could not be trusted. Still, it was never revealed just how it was found out that Aiden had been addicted to brew. Did Ian tell her? I don't think Ms. Ozland was the one that told. And what about Kye? Just how much does he know about what was going on behind the scenes? Could he be the one behind the email that Dorian found in Holly's office? Is anyone actually going to remember that that happened now that Gwen is set to go on trial?
How is Gwen going to prove her innocence? Why didn't she question what Holly revealed to her about Aura when she asked about the spirit that was in the cat? I hope she hasn't forgotten about that. There are a number of loose ends that I hope get resolved in the next book. Plus, although the Vampire Council didn't actually end up assisting in any way with Gwen breaking her bond to Ian (she handled that herself), will they still expect payment in drinking from her? If so, maybe she shouldn't have antagonized Alana the way she did. With what happened with Aiden, can he be trusted? Was he telling the truth about not caring about Ian's whacked out plan. Why was Ian smiling at the end? How long until something happens between Gwen and Dorian? A lot of questions, looking forward to some answers.
I enjoyed the excerpt of Taming the Wolf at the back. I'll be checking it out once it's released.
Love me some Gwen Sparks, the modern day witch that everyone who enjoys YA paranormal should welcome into their home! Not only is she witty, but her sassy tongue in cheek humor and her take no crap demeanor gets me every time...in this follow up to Craved (which I loved just as much by the way) she is pursuing her relationship with Aiden, the sexy vampire who has pursued her since the first book, Craved, and he is still trying to help her figure out a means to an end on discovering how to destroy Ian Despereaux' bond to Gwen and his continuing to drain witches and supply other vamps with Brew, witches blood that intoxicates other vamps and makes them stronger. Gwen is now staying with the witches council, NAWC, as they have now sanctioned a full blown attack on vampires due to there continuing to kill witches for the Brew, which causes Gwen to have to lie about her continuing relationship with Aiden if she wants to continue to receive protection from NAWC. They all start to train in combat in preparation for the war, and have Gwen embrace her spirit walker side by soliciting the help of The Grim Reaper of Death Himself, known as Dorian, YUM!!! Dorian and Gwen's attraction is AMAZING!!! GO DORIAN!!!! Fiona is back in this one with a love interest of her own, although I must say I am DYING to find out why it is that Fiona's boyfriend despises Gwen so much, I know our buddy Stephanie Nelson has something up her sleeve there because she is GENIUS!!!!. I like how Gwen comes into her own in this one, Dorian teaches her a lot about her powers and lets her discover what she is capable of why she is so important in this faction war between the vamps and the witches! This sequel has a bunch of new characters we're introduced to and there are some steamy love scenes, snarky banter, clever story plots, and unexpected twists where you least expect them! There is also some betrayal, some deceit and some surprises that seriosuly make your head spin!!! A must read for all Gwen Sparks fans!!!!
The colors on this cover were so pretty. The colors just popped aganist the dark background. I loved this book a lot. Gwen was such a great heroine. She was no pushover at all. I love for my heroines to be strong and take charge.
We start this story out by learning Gwen has to help the witches in a war aganist vampires. Gwen is conflicted because she is currently dating a vampire named Aiden. Aiden was such a great character. He was so willing to to do anything for her. He also allowed Gwen to be herself and loved her for who she was.
Gwen has to do some training in this book to learn more about her spirit walker abilites. I was so excited that Gwen learns how powerful she is. She gets to train with Kye who is aloof and Dorian who is the opposite. He has the whole bad boy thing working for him. I loved the twist they put in of who he really was.
Gwen again has to deal with Ian as she learns she is bonded with him. She and Aiden try to figure out how to break the bond. This leads them to the Vampire Council and Gwen getting to learn more about Aiden and his life before he became a vampire. The plan that is put in place promises to be a major showdown between the witches and vampires to stop Ian. The ending battle was nothing short of epic and amazing. It was great to see Gwen use her awesome powers.
Overall this book is a must read. It has everything you would want with the suspense, battles, and magical elements. The writing was fast paced. I speed through it and was suprised to see how fast I finished it. The writer did a great job with this book. Her characters were well written and the plot was great. I highly recommend this to others.

Deceived is a continuation of the first book (Craved) in the Gwen Sparks series. While this one picks up right where it left off, I'd like to mention that enough information is given throughout the book that you could pick this one up by itself. But if you have the opportunity to read both, you'll be pleased.
Gwen is at Moon, not by choice of course. After the cases were closed on the witches death, Ian roaming free, and the Vampire Council (VC) not doing a darn thing about it, the Witches are looking to declare war. A deadly war upon the vampires, and their secret weapon is none other than Gwen Sparks!
But even Gwen is unsure of her abilities. Should she embrace the spirit walker side? Can she go back to just being the simple spell casting Gwen? After all when spirit walkers fail to believe in themselves they often go madly insane, so crazy, they can never lead normal lives. That is of course if they even survive.
Ah but then there is still Aiden. The lovely vampire that Gwen fought so hard against, the very same man who stole away her heart in heat of passion, and the very guy who became addicted to “brew”, the blood of witches. Has he really beaten his addiction? How did the vampires ever discover the secret “high” found within the blood of witches?
Conspiracies, suspense, lust, raw emotion, and page turning questions will keep you going as you follow Gwen on her journey. Watch as she truly learns to trust in herself, the gifts she has been given, and most of all embraces her magic once and for all. Don't miss a beat, and get yourself hooked on this series.

Again, I am not in the correct genre for this book. Maybe I am just old and bitter, but these books annoy me. There some great elements, but also major plot holes.
For example, why was she bonded to Ian but not bonded to Aiden. Aiden drank from Gwen when he was in his Brew addiction. Then Gwen drank from Aiden during the ritual that broke his Brew addiction. She should have been bonded to Aiden first and thus Ian should have been punished for 'stealing' Aiden's bond. This part just didn't make sense.
Again it really annoys me that almost every many she meets is drool worthy and she can barely control her attraction. Maybe I am old and bitter but I do not believe this is realistic. She is not a succubus.
When death appears and he is drop dead gorgeous. I almost guffawed out loud. Even death is a picture of perfection?
If you can get past the plot holes, too perfect and too shallow characters, the story line is pretty fun. I do find at least the love triangles keep you guessing as to who she will end up with. I can't complain that the story itself is predictable, except that you can predict she will fall for every beautiful man in the room, and they are all beautiful.
With some major editing this could be an awesome book. Still plan on giving the next one a try. I really hope there are some mediocre looking men who do not cause Gwen to melt just from his perfect abs.
I have to compliment the author on the rape scene. This is one place where she really captured the horror of the invasion. It was very traumatic. However Gwen bounced back from it almost immediately. I would expect that trauma to scar her for life.

Wow, I love when a second book is even more better then the first, its not something I get to say often!! But Deceived was just that, I loved it!!!
This book we learn a lot more about Gwens power, and there is a lot to learn. Then in walks this sexy Angel of Death who had me saying screw Aiden and lets have some fun with Dorian.lol (man I am so loyal.) Don't worry Aiden fans he is still around and we get many many fun and sexy scenes with him, but by the end of the book I think you will all by on my side and want some more Dorian action. I mean he is just this big sexy package with a bow of mystery. I am totally having a swoon moment here.
Ian is still out there but now he gaining more power and making surprise visits to Gwens dreams and these are not nice visits at all. The witches are also starting a war with vampires for the brew, but they aren't just looking to kill those using brew they plan to kill everyone they can. We spend most of the book in Moon a town filled with witches where the the Witch Council is. We also get to meet some new people, some good and some not so good but you will not learn exactly who that is until the end.
I totally love this book. It was filled with action, mystery, swoon worthy men and lots of secrets are being discovered. Stephanie Nelson created an amazing world filled with witches and vampires and it is a definite must read for anyone who loves an awesome paranormal story. This series is now one of my top favorite witch books out there.
I am a HUGE supernatural fan and up until the past year was NOT a fan of paranormal romance. The main reason for this is most of the paranormal romances I read were more romance than story. I like a good story with a side of romance. One of the stories that changed my mind was Craved by Stephanie Nelson. This is a good story. Deceived was no different. Gwen is just as hot in this book and Aidan is EVEN hotter (he is tied for me with C.G Powell’s character Tam). Gwen has been thrown into another supernatural dilemma…some one is using witches blood to amp up vampires. This is terrifying because these vampires can then absorb which ever witches abilities they consume. Gwen joins the fight and search to find out who is behind this dangerous business of selling witches blood. During this fight she is introduced to an Angel of Death named Dorian. Watch out Aidan you now have competition! Dorian brings a huge conflict to Gwen and Aidan’s relationship that is even furthered complicated when Aidan gets hooked on “brew” aka witches blood. Poor Aidan. He just finally hooked Gwen and now he has to contend with an Angel of Death?? Geesh. Throw an evil vampire Ian Despereaux into the mix and their relationship is stretch to the ultimate limit. This is such a fun read and you will not be disappointed. I am soo anxious to see where Stephanie is going with these new twists and Gwen’s relationship with Aidan. Will Dorian win?
This book has a little for everyone: sex, supernatural and suspense. My kinda book.
Main Character: Gwen Sparks (age 26) Love Interests: Aiden and Dorien Plot: Taking down Ian, preventing war between witches and vampires, mastering being a Spirit Walker
Heroine: 4/5 - the only issue i have with her in this book is some of her decisions are slightly idiotic, however they are justifiable in her situations. -i'm also not a fan of criers, but thankfully they are never drawn out into crying rants about how unfair life is.
Romance: 3/5 -i love how loyal she stays to Aiden but I wish they added some more scenes of them together, or at least a little more description. -the author also writes it so it's a logical relationship between her and the other characters, not some stupid fairy tale of two people falling in love and pining for each other.
Humor: 4/5 - Gwen does have a sarcastic side to her and when it shows it's really funny, I just wish the author had shown that side of her more. Especially in the more serious and dangerous times.
The I enjoyed the book overall, it kept my interest MOST of the time, however it did start off a little slow. All the characters were likable and thankfully Gwen was able to see through those that are evil for what they really were… evil. There were some parts that I was and still am confused about, but hopefully it'll be explained better in the next book.
I'm already starting on the 3rd one and it's already better than the first and second if you ask me! I can't wait to keep reading however I have a feeling i'll be sad once I finish all of them.
