All Monica ever wanted was to be happily married and to take care of her family. She had that until her husband wanted a new life and his wife and children were standing in his way. Now Monica is having trouble making ends meet and has no skills other than wife and mother to fall back on. After months of job searching she must do what needs to be done to take care of her girls. She is going to take a position at Scandalous Gentlemen’s Club. Now she needs to keep her deep dark secret separate from her normal life. Monica is the new dancer Deja.
Tall men, short men, fat men, skinny men, and men of avery color – all are good men as long as they bring their billfolds. The only thing Robin, a.k.a. Treasure, wants is their money. She will work all that she was blessed with, because the only one she can count on is herself. Now she must revisit a time in her life she would rather forget. See the problem is, now it’s not only Robin. She has been made guardian of her young nephew. As the mystery of why her sister is in jail unfolds, Robin begins to understand that she may have to use her body one more time to fix what is broken.
Ms. Campbell did a wonderful job intertwining these two totally different women. She kept their voices completely separated and the nuances of their lives perfectly written and balanced. These ladies may have begun on entirely different planes, but in the end they are almost as one. I can see their relationship being around for a very long time.
The mystery behind their two lives is brilliantly portrayed and nothing was given away. I was cheering for their victories and shocked at the ending. I really enjoyed the book once I got into the groove of it. I will say that it did take me a bit of time to gel with some of the characters. It wasn’t the characters per say, but their vernacular. I can see the reasoning behind the cultural language; it just took some time to get used to. It played well with the plot, the locale and even the rough and hard characters. It’s something that I’m not used to in mainstream fiction. Once I was absorbed into the world, it flowed off the pages and played vividly in my mind.
Scandals is a tantalizing look into the lives of strippers. You are able to experience both sides of the coin. The woman who needs to strip because it’s the only thing she can do and the other who does it because she enjoys the work and way of life. Ms. Campbell drew me in and had me vested in these two woman’s lives. She also threw in a deep plot full of mystery and murder.
Too many lives are involved and there are too many secrets. It’s only a matter of time before the secrets of their lives are revealed and nobody knows who will be left standing. Pick up Scandals if you want something a bit different, very tantalizing and sexy hot!
After a considerable amount of research, I will be hosting a summer reading book group on this book and am so glad I chose it. The book is definitely an urban/street lit book, but the sex and violence fit the story and (more importantly) it HAS a story. I had problems with the story (including a storyline about a female friend of one of the main characters) and the book could have benefited from a bit more editing, but I liked it. It kept me interested and I cared about the characters.
This novel is my favorite, I wish Sasha would've come out with a part 2. Monica had to do what she had to do to take care of her two children, and Monica's ex-husband was a douche bag for trying to take his children away from Monica. Robin finally got her ever after with Trey, and also, I'm glad Tremayne was able to forgive Monica for the lie she was feeding him. All the evil individuals deserved the consequences they brought on themselves.
This was an okay read. I liked how the chapters were short which made for quick reading. I did like the friendship that developed between Monica and Robin. Monica angered me that she would allow herself to be backed into a corner where she had no other option but to strip to provide for her children. When your husband has millions, put your pride to the side. I can't stand blackmailing schemes and having to subject herself to blackmail from her ex-husband's business partner ticked me off. Also the lying she did which ended her new relationship was infuriating. As I was reading I knew it wasn't going to end well. I have been reading books long enough to see predictable story lines. I was shocked at her best friend Reyna. I did not see what unfolded between them coming but I felt that part of the story was unresolved.
I did like Robin. The take no prisoners stripper. She was tough and I like how her character evolved when her nephew and his mentor entered her life. Her ex Halo was scary. I could see an entire book devoted to him. As one other reviewer stated have both women dating men with similar names almost made me think they were dating the same man. Monica dated Tremayne and Robin dated Trey. Not very original.
The author wrapped up the story with a happy ever after ending. Overall it was a pleasant read and I may read one of this author's books again eventually.
I listened to this book on audio and it definitely kept my interest. It was nicely paced and a good length. I don't know if the author intentionally tried to throw me (readers) off or if it was just me but I kept thinking Trey and Tremaine were the same man with two different women since Trey could be a nickname. Anyway I enjoyed how it played out. I couldn't believe Monica actually went through with stripping but I guess she really felt out of options, her personality in the book didn't seem like she was cut out for that type of job but doing anything for your kids made it believable. Robin was no joke about hers, she knew what she had and made it work for her. I'm glad that she found a softness in her heart to let go of all the past pain and reconnect with loved ones. Good story about two women from different backgrounds being faced with heavy issues but came through and developed a friendship as well.
I liked this story a lot. Monica Houston is going to nursing school and just got divorced from her husband Anthony. they have two daughters together Liese & Arissa, Anthony only gives her the bare minimum to support the girls, so her best friend suggest that she audition to be a dancer at a local gentlemen club Scandalous.
Robin Douglas (aka) Treasure is the main attraction in Scandalous, Robin is for herself and making money, she'll do whatever it takes to keep money in her purse. She gets a knock on the door and realize that she has a nephew that she never knew anything about and is forced to take care of him while her estranged sister is in jail.
This story has so many different layers and will have you feeling very proud.
so it took me some weeks before I decided to read this and I must admit this book was really good. Sasha did very a good job at keeping my attention. the story begins with Robin aka treasure who has been dancing at Scandals for sometime. Robin has to take in her nephew prove her estranged sister innocence and keep halo her ex at bay while trying to start a new relationship. Than there is Monica aka deja who's exhusband doesn't help her much financially so her last result is to strip add a couple more dancers a crazy ass best friend a you got yourself a page turner!
This was my first novel by Sasha Campbell and I have to say, I did enjoy reading it. I was invested in the characters, particularly Robin, and I was eager to find out how things would develop. The reason I deducted a few points was because of the grammatical errors that were throughout the book; tense changes mid-sentence, skipped words or too many words, and an overall lack of proofreading. Also, the ending seemed rushed and came across as a bit too coincidental. Despite those things, I still enjoyed Scandals and will try another title by this author.
I really enjoyed the book but I could not root for Monica. She continued to say that she would do whatever she needed to take care of her kids but she was actually just wanting to maintain the same lifestyle but it was not for her children. I mean, she lived in a 2700 sq foot house but the girls slept in bunk beds in the same room and she was making car payments on a Lexus. Granted she did eventually re-enroll the children in some of their extra curricular activities.
Man the title of this book was perfect for this book ...I loved this book so much drama and it all goes back to being one big circle everybody was involved one way or another...I just couldn't put this book down...it was that good ...it's a must read ...you will not be diapointed
I liked this book. Though the characters were fictional the reality was this is real life for lots of woman. The ending was predictable to me, but there were some surprises in the book. An easy read. I like this author.
I enjoyed this book. I lol a lot. I liked Robin more than Monica. Monica acted simple at times. I didn't care for Karen Pittman's(Monica) narratin it seemed too forced, and over acted. I liked Krystal King's(Robin) narratin, thou. Good Book.
Sasha did her thing with this novel. I really enjoyed it! So glad for Robin and Trey, Deena, Kyle, Monica the girls and Treymane. In this novel everyone got exactly what they deserved and I loved the ending! Some grammatical errors but overall a great read!
Truly enjoyed the story was definitely excited about read the characters Monica and Robin Im glad through all their heart aches, tears, amd pain they survived.
