Emerald Barnes resides in a small town in Mississippi and has the accent to prove it. She’s an auntie, a youth leader, a little bit of a nerd, a reader, a writer, and a family-oriented person. God is number One in her life, and she thanks Him continuously for His love and favor.
She’s also addicted to tv and binge-watching shows, and she has a thing for superheroes.
I wasn't really sure how to categorize this very short read. It's almost like a sketch, but reads very passively. The story became more active as it went along, but there is too much missing information here. Like background info about the character (which comes out a little at the end, but still I would've liked to have known more.)
I think if this author would ditch the passive voice, flesh out scenes a little more (I was confused about how the protagonist got to her home in the last scene and how she got into thar final position,) that this story might have been better.
Also, as I read this book, I realized that I had already read it before. It feels not so ominous at the onset, but switches and suddenly gets dark. I thought this story was going to be happy and Christmasy. (That's all on me...I associate Christmas with peppermints.) Or at least turn out differently. Glad it did end the way it did though, and that it was SUPER short.
