This was a very interesting story featuring a young woman who’s been out to the Yukon at the turn of the century and would love to be able to be free of the horrible things that happened to her there; she is sure the stain of it will follow her the rest of her life.

I loved getting to know her and her work as a camera girl at the Expo held on the University grounds in 1909. It was a good reason to bring all the players in the story together and have them in one spot for the purposes of the story. I loved Isaac for sure, how steadfast he is after so long, and yet so humble about it too. Sure, he oversteps a couple times; he apologizes as soon as he realizes it and doesn’t try to do the same problem twice.

I loved Otis and Pearl, the camera shop owners, so much, and also enjoyed to know the camera girls too. Looks like Eleanor gets the next book, but I’m also hoping to know what happens to Mary and Bertha.

An intense and moving story set in the Yukon and Seattle areas.

Addie dressed up as a boy to travel with her brothers and father to gold country. Always afraid of making her brothers and father angry, she tries her best to stay out of their way. But after her father passes away her brothers sell her to a saloon owner where she is forced to be his wife.

Years later Addie finds herself on the run to Seattle where she finds new friends and a place to stay. But her past soon catches up with her in both good and bad ways.

Tracie Peterson never seems to disappoint, I have enjoyed so many of her books, and this one is definitely a new favorite. I loved the characters and the redemption story. I loved how faith filled it was, and how God works through all of our circumstances. I cannot wait to read the next book.

1909 Seattle, Washington

The novel begins in 1902 Alaska. Addie Bryant finds little enjoyment in her life and when the opportunity presents itself, she flees. She knows her greedy brothers will find her if they can since Addie is in possession of a valuable gold nugget necklace.

The history woven into the pages was great. History of the gold rush in Alaska and the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle. Little details such as no alcohol allowed at the expo were so interesting. Addie's job as a Camera Girl surfaced history of photography.

Loved Addie's support system in Seattle.

My gratitude to the publisher for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

Oh my word!! Definitely a 4.5 star read. I love Tracie Peterson so much!! This book definitely reminded me of that!! The subject and violence described knocked off half a star, but not my enjoyment. We see Addie struggling with her past and wanting Biblical answers. Whereas Isaac is excited to find Addie, but has to learn patience. This is a sweet story with amazing faith content and discussions that were amazing. Also the romance was sweet.

Content warning:mentions of brothels and mistresses. mentions of beating and barely described

This was the first book that I have read from Tracie Peterson. I really enjoyed learning about the some of the history of the gold rush in the Yukon. I can't imagine making that journey up there and the living conditions. How hard it must have been to be a women with no control of her own life. Being sold off to a man. I can't imagine.

I love how she was able to move away from the area and start over in Seattle. I felt their was a lot of repetition in her conversations with herself and her self doubt. It was slightly annoying. I get that she went through a lot, but she really just needed to open up to the man that had always loved her. It was heartbreaking that she did not feel worthy of his love. The things her family made her do was not up for discussion.

I did love the relationship Isaac had with his nieces. They were so adorable and I loved that they called her Princess Addie.

Here are a few of my favorite lines from the book:

Page 25 - “My father always told me anything worth having was worth giving your all.”

Page 72 - “How well or poorly a person does in life is conditional upon a great many factors. Circumstances around us often knock us down, but I’ve learned we have to keep trying.”"

Page 74 - “I really do try to have faith, but mine is very weak, and it’s easily trampled by life.”"

Page 88 "Isaac turned and couldn’t help grinning. “Remember me?”"

Page 100 - “You are the princess and Uncle Isaac is the knight who has searched for years upon years to find you and rescue from the horrible dragons who took you away.”

Page 111 - “ There will always be things we hope will never be found out about our past. Some are small and insignificant, but others can be quite profound, and people of lesser character will use them against you.”"

Page 155 - "Her entire life had been a story of doubt and fear. Those two things had been longtime companions."

Page 255 - “But you deserve so much better than a damaged princess,”

Page 255 - “Don’t be afraid, Princess Addie. Let me be your brave knight and rescue you from the dragon.”

"Remember me." Author Tracie Peterson shares a spell-binding tale of a young girl who can't forget her first love but knows that they can never be together again. How could someone as wonderful as Isaac Hansen ever love her after all of the pain and humiliation that she'd been forced to endure? Would she ever feel worthy again?

Remember Me tugged at my heart and triggered so many emotions, including anger, sorrow, and admiration. The story is set in 1909 Seattle, during the Alaska Yukon Pacific Expo, and Peterson weaves intriguing historical facts with an inspiring message of faith, hope, and forgiveness. It is a captivating historical romance and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Thank you NetGalley and Bethany House, Bethany House Publishers for accepting my request to read and review Remember Me.

Published: 03/07/23

The cover is beautiful. I was drawn to the book by the cover. Then I saw Christian, Historical Fiction and Romance. I'm not a romance reader, given the cover, the synopsis and 2/3 on the genre I was all-in. This was a clear calendar day, hot mug of coffee, and food delivery read. Bonus, it rained just enough that I could see it. I don't have many days like this.

After reading, I sat staring at the cover on GoodReads. Was the darkness of the cover the clue that I missed? The beatings were so brutal, and not addressed in any fashion. Slapped so hard people heard, gasped and stared, no further acknowledgment. Broken ribs, bloody face, brain swelling and nothing -- absolutely nothing is said.

I finished this by the grace of God. The final beating made me fight vomiting. I kept telling myself, there will be an author's note. One that will address how not to be treated. Clearly state the time period. I was waiting on something to teach young girls growing into ladies, God's grace and mercy, and I got nothing.

The story was romance -- they met in their mid teens; she was abused and his guidance at 15 was God. Pray, he can't stop pain -- it's up to man. The story evolves, she is abused. 10-12 years later they meet again.

I want this whole mess out of my head.

Thank you to Librarything for picking me to win this FREE ARC COPY in a giveaway on their website a few months ago.

This was my first time reading a Book in this Series by Tracie so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i loved this one so much. From Heartbreak to Faith and Happily Ever After this Book had it all and more that was so enjoyable to read about.

The Characters were interesting to read about. Addie, Pearl and Issac were definately my favorites. I felt for Addie with everything she endured with her father and brothers its mind boggling that a parent would do that to their child without a care in the world but i was so happy with how Addie's story ended.

The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in 1902 Yukon and 1909 Seattle Washington especially when the scenery was described.

Overall a Phenomenally Heart tugging Book 1 in this Historical Christian Fiction Series about a woman surviving being gambled off to a cheater!! Can't wait to read Book 2 soon and more by Tracie in the future!!

Most of this story takes place in 1900's Seattle and we are gifted with a visit at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo, what a fun setting, but danger has followed Addie, but also her lost love finds her.

Even through difficult times, I love the people that God places in Addie's path, and they in turn are blessings to others. I also enjoy the idea the author gives us of selling the Brownie camera, I could just see these young families, getting pictures taken, and then buying the affordable camera.

We are offered wonderful friendships, a bit of sweet romance, along with some danger. You will be page turning for answers, and they do come, but you in for another great adventure gifted to us by Tracie Peterson.

Addie grows up in an abusive home and is sold for profit by her own brothers, eventually, she gets free to leave to make her own way. Loved the storyline of photography, training Camera Girls to operate and sell the Brownie camera, and the setting of the Alaska-Yukon Pacific Expo in Seattle. This story has everything a reader could possibly want in a novel, wonderful friendships, a strong heroine, a bit of sweet romance, adventure, along with some danger. Loved also how Isaac the man Addie is in love with since she was seventeen happened to inadvertently cross paths with her after such a long time.

I enjoyed this plot, it is unlike any other book I have ever read, with the strong Christian message of forgiveness, redemption, and love.

A new series revolving around photography and the Seattle Exposition of 1909.
Addie has escaped from a hopeless, impossible situation in the Yukon and found refuge in Seattle with a loving, godly couple, Pearl and her husband Otis, a photographer. With the grace of God she is beginning to heal. Danger still follows her but so does Isaac, who she pledged to love years ago.
This was a significant story of sin and redemption. Ms. Peterson does not shy away from showing evil but conveys a clear Gospel message that resonates with all situations, even today. I enjoyed seeing Addie grow in faith and the assurance that God loved her and wanted the best for her. Isaac was portrayed as a hero who was steadfast and would stop at nothing to win Addie back.
Interesting were the facts brought out about the Exposition and photography of the era.
A timeless message for all.

"Remember Me" is a Christian romance set in 1909 in Seattle, Washington. Isaac and Addie promised to marry each other one day, but Isaac left to get a college degree and Addie's brothers sold her to a brothel owner who married her. Once widowed, she went to Seattle to hide and make a new life for herself. The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo not only brings Isaac back into her life but her scheming brothers who want her money and who plan to sell her again. Isaac and her friends helped her against her brothers. Her friends helped her to heal from her past when she finally admitted her shame to her Christian friends, expecting to be rejected. They pointed out that she was a victim, it wasn't by her choice, and even if it had been, God forgives sins.

The main characters were likable and generally behaved realistically. However, Isaac genuinely thought that when he found Addie, they'd immediately marry and it'd be like nothing had happened in the past ten years that they'd been apart. Various people told him that he needed to give her time, get to know her now, and talk to her about what's holding her back. Still, he kept pushing because he didn't care about her ruined reputation and didn't understand that she did.

Sweet, caring Addie felt unworthy of any love and questioned why God allowed bad things to happen. She came to see some good come from her past and learned to trust that God loved her even if He allowed evil things to happen. Interesting historical details about the Expo and life in the Yukon were woven into the story. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable historical romance.

FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. These are my honest thoughts.

The cover of this one pulled me in. It’s so irresistible and moody!

As with most Tracie Peterson novels, this story was unpredictable and enjoyable. I especially loved the theme of overcoming one’s tough past. This included things a person was forced to do by others, when she had no choice of her own in the matter.

The persistence of the romance was delightful. It was amazing to see that a man would pursue the woman steadfastly despite obstacles, proving his devotion in a chivalrous way rather than obsessive.

The Exposition was beautifully on display! This setting came alive under the masterful touch of the author. It was especially enjoyable that Kodak cameras were featured.

Another lovely theme found throughout the novel was neighborly love. This type of love is crucial to infusing compassion into an apathetic world, so I love seeing it layered so exquisitely into fictional stories. This can easily inspire readers to choose kindness in their real lives.

Content: gambling hall, brothels, pre-marital intimacies, alcohol

“I don’t feel worthy of forgiveness.” “No one is worthy. We don’t get forgiveness because we have earned it. It’s a gift—a loving gift from a loving God. God made the way for us to be reconciled to Him. He gave us Jesus, and you must now trust that He died for your sins and the sins of others. You must see that He loves you and has brought you out of that hopelessness and sin into life everlasting.”

I enjoyed reading Addie’s story so much! I always enjoy Tracie’s books but this one may be my favorite. You can always see how much research she does for her stories. I always feel fully immersed in the tales she weaves. Addie went through so much and she still managed to stay sweet and kind. She worked so hard to overcome her past. I can absolutely relate to how she felt like her past had ruined her and made her unworthy of love or forgiveness. But, that feeling does not come from God. There’s nothing that will make God love us less. He knew everything we would ever do or experience before we were even born. And He can use what others intended for evil to bring about good in our lives. I loved how devoted and loyal Isaac was. There are so many people who would look down on Addie, or judge her, or give up on her. If anything, he admired her even more because of her strength in how she dealt with everything. The main themes in the story are forgiveness, second chances, and how God’s love can overcome all.

Remember Me is a Christian historical romance that takes place in the turn of the century (early 1900s) in Dawson City, Yukon (Canada) and then switches to Seattle. I love learning more about this bit of history, there’s information on the travelers who made that treacherous journey to Dawson City and then the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo held in Seattle. Y’all, I didn’t know anything about it but it was fascinating and I loved the love story of Addie and Isaac that was woven through this.

This book rides heavily on Christian themes of redemption, hope, questioning of God and why he allows the ugliness in the world to happen. It has some heavy topics addressed (prostitution, abuse, slavery, murder, etc) but it was done well with a delicate hand.

I would say if you’re looking for a historical Christian romance that takes place during a unique event, you should pick this one up. Definitely a sweet book by Tracie Peterson

Thank you to the publisher for the copy! It was a beautifully written story!

Addie's story begins in 1898 without any regard for her welfare was forced to go to the Yukon with her her two brothers and father. When her father died, her brothers sold her to a man that owned a bar and whore house. She soon after married that man who kept her for his own and protected her from the likes of her brothers. It is when her husband was killed, that she needed to escape. With the gifts that he bestowed on her, she secretly left the Yukon for Seattle. She knew her life was in danger from her brothers, but she held on to the hope that Isaac a young man that she met and they both fell in love before her father died, would come for her after he finished school. It was locket with his picture and the words Remember me that kept her going but she also questioned her worthiness to such a man as a Isaac.

Would he still love her after what her father and brothers put her thru? Addie struggled with rejection and abuse from her family. Was she worthy of God's love? Addie had questions but no answers. Her questions led to fear to love. I think this story reveals the providence of God and how he uses bad things to strengthen us. Even though Addie could not see the whole picture, she had others that came along to help her. And the same people who would not give up on love.

A special thank you to Bethany House and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Peterson has done another fantabulous job with this novel.
I loved everything about this one.
My favorite thing about this book is how the author pointed out that God is a loving God. He's always there if you only seek Him out. He will always be near.
Yes, our pasts can be rough but in my opinion it is what makes us who we are now. It's the future and what we make of it is what counts.
Addie shows us that and more importantly friendship.
My second favorite thing is the setting of the Seattle fair. I enjoyed it. Makes me visualize in being there myself.
This was a wonderful read with some parts that I didn't like.
Who I didn't like was Hiram and Shep. Terrible Terrible! Greedy and Evil. That's all I'll say.
Addie is the real heroine. I just loved and my heart went out to her. I found myself rooting for her throughout this novel.
5 stars for a well written book.
I highly recommend!

The first book in the Pictures of the Heart series is fantastic. The beautiful cover and description grabbed my attention immediately and once I started reading, it was hard to stop.

Addie Bryant has had an extremely difficult life causing her heartbreak and fear as she tries to make a new life for herself with a new job, new friends, and a home of her own where she can feel safe and secure. I loved the storyline of photography, training Camera Girls to operate and sell the Brownie camera and the setting of the Alaska-Yukon Pacific Expo in Seattle. I also loved how her former beau Isaac happened to inadvertently crossed paths with her after such a long time.

Remember Me has everything a reader could possibly want in a novel, strong female characters, lost love, betrayal, faith, more than a few harrowing moments and an overall beautifully crafted story.

Addy was sold by her evil brothers to a brothel owner and forced to marry him. After her husband dies, Addy escapes to Seattle to get anyway from her brothers. Years later, Addy is working to sell Brownie cameras at the Alaska Yukon Pacific Expo.
Issac met Addy years ago before she was married. They fell in love and promised to be together but Issac had to leave the Yukon but promised to return. Before he had a chance, Addy was forced into marriage. Now he is living in Seattle. When Addy and Issac finally reunite, Issac is ready to get married but Addy fears people finding out about her past.
To make matters worse her brothers have gotten out of prison and are looking for Addy.

This story is full of faith in God. Isaac trusts and believes that God wants him and Addy to be together and stays strong in that. Addy struggles with trusting God because of all the bad that has happened to her but there is so much scripture and Christian teaching to help her and us to keep the faith. I really liked both main characters. They are very strong in different ways and they are a great couple. Addys brothers are just pure evil. I felt bad for Addy. I did enjoy learning about the camera girls and selling of the brownie cameras. The writing is very good and I loved the story and Christian message. Overall great read and I definitely recommend!

It is 1902 in Dawson City, Alaska, Adeline Bryant has been forced to lived a horrible life with a dad and brothers who only used her to satisfy their own desires for money. When the evil man she is forced to marry by her brothers dies, Addie knows it's her one chance to escape and head for Seattle, Washington. But will her new life be all that she hopes or will calamity find her once again? Also will she ever see the boy who promised to remember her when he left for the states and higher education?

This book is truly a change from the suspense reads of Tracie Peterson I have previously read, and I loved every page of it. The historical detail and information about The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (AYPE), held in Seattle from June 1 to October 16, 1909 was fascinating and brought to life. The Camera Girls and the reveal of the new Kodak Brownie Camera added a special touch. The reconnection of Isaac and Addie as well as the reentrance of Addie's evil brothers added both romance and suspense to the story line. Infused with a wonderful faith thread throughout, this totally created an especially enjoyable read.

Imagine living a life where your own family mistreats and abuses you, then sells you to a brothel where you become the mistress of the brothel owner. It’s the early 1900’s and you feel you have been sullied for life. And on top of that, you are in love with a man who went off to college and promised to come back for you, but now you’ve run away and made a new start with your life. You feel there is no way to be with your beloved ever again because of what you have been through.

This is the life that Addie is living now in Seattle. She found a family and a job she enjoys. It’s now 1909 and the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo has come to Seattle. Which is a wonderful opportunity. Except it also brings her in contact with her beloved and her brothers again. How will it all play out? What kinds of twists will there be along the way?

I absolutely loved this story. It was my first book by Tracie Peterson and it won’t be my last.
I had never heard of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo, so this was an interesting time in history to learn about. I fell in love with the main characters and their plight. I loved the anticipation, wondering how Addie would come in contact with Isaac and her brothers again. There was a nice amount of suspense as well. Most importantly, the author shares important spiritual truths.

If you are a fan of Christian historical fiction, you’ll want to read this book.

I learned quite a bit about this book concerning how the trek to Alaska in the hunt for gold to become rich went for families as well as about the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific expo in Seattle. I loved this historical read and how Addie and Isaac's story were woven into it. It was fascinating to read about these historical events as well as how Addie had to learn to trust that her past was not of her making and that she should not allow that to dictate her life and future. I loved the scenery the author used in telling the story and that she didn't shy away from the truths of the hardships and often bad things that did happen during these events. This was a very good historical christian read and I am looking forward to more in this series. Thank you to the author for allowing me to be a part of the launch team. I Just loved reading this story! Overcoming what has happened in the past is not always easy. Forgiving oneself, especially. And that is what I felt had to happen for Addie to completely move past what she experienced in her life. This Christian romance takes place in Seattle in the year 1909 at the time of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo. Moving from the Yukon to Seattle, Addie starts a new life and wants to forget the past, but the past won't stay away.
A very interesting read and I finished it in two evenings. It was hard for me to put the book down and it really captivated my interest and held it till the very end. I am sure you will just love it!

I really thoroughly enjoyed this book, so much. Much better than IN PLACES HIDDEN if you ask me. Though the kind of rush at the end with the brothers felt a little jolted to me — saying he’ll be ahead of the law and then got shot?? I want to know what happened there, it was pretty abrupt. Ah well. Can’t wait for the other books to continue with this setting!

This story involves abuse, violence, theft, romance, friendship, and family. There is a lot of negative in this story. It was quite depressing, and I felt bad for the main character. She gets the worst of it. Most of the story takes place in or around The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. There is a happy ending after everything that goes wrong.

Addie Bryant was taken to the Yukon by her father and brothers. She fell in love with Isaac Hanson, who moved away but promised her he would come back and get her. But when her father died, her brothers sold her to a saloon owner. The man treated her well and actually married her instead of putting her upstairs as a prostitute. When her husband dies in a barfight, she learns that he left everything to her. Her brothers want her wealth and so she flees to Seattle. There she finds a job with a couple who are running a camera shop and she gets involved with their booth at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo. While there, she funs into Isaac who is thrilled to find her but her brothers also track her down there. It's a great story and it also gives everyon a glimpse of this Expo in Seattle. As with all of Tracie Peterson's books, I was enthralled.

It has been years since I read Tracie Peterson's Alaskan Yukon Quest series and I was so excited to read another story that starts in Alaska. This book was very interesting to read with the many historical tidbits woven throughout the pages. I loved the Alaskan history but also the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Expo, of which I knew nothing about whatsoever. Addie's character was so well written and I appreciated her strength and how she grew and overcame obstacles. I struggled with Isaac's character and I never really grew to love him to be honest. He assumed too many things and was far too pushy for my liking. I still found this to be an enjoyable read tinged with mystery and romance and how Christ can heal past trauma to give us hope for a future.

Four Stars.
