Sophie Barrington had fallen from the glittering heaven of the haut ton to the hell of servitude: Once a diamond of the first water about to marry the most eligible bachelor of the Season, she had been ruined by one foolish, innocent escapade. And since her guardian had squandered her fortune and run off to America, she was worse than ruined. She was penniless. Now, it was pure desperation that drove her to accept a position as a maid at a country estate.
A Lord Falling
But it was fate that made it the home of the Marquess of Beresford. Here a man's awesome power and sensuality would make her tremble. Here this domineering lord would unmask the deep emotions beneath the foolish manners that had made her fashion's darling. And he—who had been a woman's fool once and swore never to be again—would find he could have his revenge. Or he could embrace a lady who swept away his pride to open the doors of all-consuming love...For All Eternity.
I liked several aspects of this novel and the HEA was cute. I liked the heroine changed hr mind and her perspective but her redemption felt too rushed, not in how it developed through the novel«s pace but in the turning point. In one chapter she thought one thing, in the other she was a changed woman, even if her actions slowly showed her better understanding of things. It shows this was written in the 90s and although I could put aside some details, the fact the heroine was very arrogant at first made me dislike her a bit and not appreciate the novel as much.
This is the first book I've read by Heather Cullman and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The book was charming, sweet, and quite funny. I found myself laughing aloud throughout the entire read. I loved Sophia's transformation from spoiled beauty to humble gentlewoman and I simply adored Nicholas. He was such an endearing man whose sensitive and vulnerable side were revealed during several scenes in the book. I do agree that the ending felt a bit rushed but I still enjoyed the book immensely. After writing this review, I will more than likely order all historical romances by Heather Cullman, hoping that they provide me with as much enjoyment as "For All Eternity" did.
Historical romance would always bright up my day once in a while. This one made my day too. Sophie and Marquess of Beresford really entertain me. It just one thing that quite disturb my logical faculty; that is how should a girl as bright as Sophie could fail to really look at the face of Marquess of Beresford. If she really look at him and appreciate his looks, I can assure you she might saved all the fuss later as happened in the book. Then again, if she really look at him, maybe there will be no book as this one to entertain us.
It’s such a cheesy and ridiculous book. I first read it as a teenager and fell in love with the simplicity. The idea that people that hurt each other deeply could forgive and fall in love? My romantic heart still loves that, even 8 or 9 reads of this book later.
A great book for when you are looking for an interesting peak at what life could be like as an indentured domestic servant. The power of money, the power of love, and the power of extreme hatred and how it can be used, made an interesting read. .
Great plot, interesting heroine and hero, deep character development, and a fairly good villain. This is a writer I will be following especially as the next book will be about our hero's younger and jealous brother. Sophie's growth from a spoiled young girl who only looks at surface flash, into a caring compassionate person is paralleled by Nathaniel's switch from a ego boosting wife to a true hearted love. Several unusual twists lead to the HEA.
I liked the book, but it dragged when it should have been exciting. The author made it quite clear that she had a lesson for all who read about how you treat other people, and it became tedious. It was still good, but I never got the passion I wanted from either character. I was hoping for more.
