After her father dies, Caroline Spencer dreams of being on her own and living off of her farm. But she is stuck working as a servant for her stepfamily. When she meets a handsome cowboy one day, she finds herself willing to take risks she’s never taken before.
Grayson Taylor’s father wants him to follow in his footsteps and become a doctor so he could join the family practice. His father also pressures him to stop galavanting around with his friends and settle down with a wife. When he runs into a girl in the street, he agrees to a birthday party to see her again.
Will Grayson and Caroline overcome their fears to find love? Or are they doomed to do what others expect of them?

--I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.--
In this her debut novel, author Brooklyn Cannon accomplishes a great many things. Her writing is packed with honest, relatable characters with thoughtful motivations; quick, anticipatory pacing; and a satisfying resolution that provides you with even more than you had hoped for.
The inner workings of the characters reach much deeper than surface level, and you can see this here: "Caroline had found the bright side to being pushed down. She was content. At least, that was what she told herself." As evidenced by this quote, the war between the true effect of one's circumstances and the effect they convince themselves they are experiencing is one we all will find ourselves in the midst of at some point. Similarly relatable themes are abundant in the storytelling, such as the fear of not measuring up to others' expectations, anxiety over the possibility of a future that is less than what you dream of, and the wonderful joy and comfort of good friendship.
Something unique about this book in comparison to others that I've read was the frequent references to God and the gospel. They were brief and simple, but sweet. Your theology is probably not going to be increased or challenged by your reading, but those who love the gospel will likely be encouraged by the reminders --and for those who don't, God can certainly use it as soft promptings towards Himself.
Western historical romances are not my normal or preferred story to read, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this book. Simple in story --and yet deep in regards to characters-- you are left wanting for more. Which is a good thing! I am eager to experience more from Cannon and feel more emotion through her words.
This was an exceptional Cinderella retelling which beautifully combined aspects of romance and Jesus! The backstory for each of the characters were well thought out and enjoyable to watch unfold throughout the story. I liked the time period and the addition of the story taking a more relaxed version on the traditional ballroom scene! It felt more original and blended well with the time period! I enjoyed the birthday party ‘Disney Cinderella Live Action’ teaser but wish it was the only one incorporated. The others made the scenes feel a bit like copies. This is my only critique and was very minor for me! I absolutely loved this read in it’s entirety and can’t wait to check out what comes next!!

This book reflects the love of Jesus, the importance of forgiveness, friendship and that before loving others, you must learn to love and respect yourself.
It's amazing that even though the book is very short. It makes you feel thousands of emotions at the same time and want to read more and more books of these beautiful characters.
Brooklyn's narrative is beautiful and warm to the heart. She really manages to capture the love of Jesus in this historical romance novel.
Cinderella in a Cowboy Story was something I didn't know I needed in my life, I can't wait to read more of this author's work!
