N. T. Wright is the former Bishop of Durham in the Church of England (2003-2010) and one of the world's leading Bible scholars. He is now serving as the chair of New Testament and Early Christianity at the School of Divinity at the University of St. Andrews. He has been featured on ABC News, Dateline NBC, The Colbert Report, and Fresh Air, and he has taught New Testament studies at Cambridge, McGill, and Oxford universities. Wright is the award-winning author of Surprised by Hope, Simply Christian, The Last Word, The Challenge of Jesus, The Meaning of Jesus (coauthored with Marcus Borg), as well as the much heralded series Christian Origins and the Question of God.
NT Wright is one of the true theological treasures of our time. Dr. Wright is brilliant and deep, and writes solid, dense theology. However, as this book shows, he can also write clear, creative text for everyone. He reminds me of CS Lewis in his ability to communicate as a scholar and as a winsome shepherd.
This book breaks the text of Revelation into multiple sections per chapter. With each, Dr. Wright tells a relatable story that illustrates the point of the passage. He gives some clear explanations where appropriate and is not afraid to specular where the text is not as clear. He ties the book together brilliantly. This is not a theological study, but it contains solid meat from the Scripture.
Obviously there is a great range of opinions and interpretations of Revelation. Apocalyptic literature is not easy. However, this text gives solid interpretations in an understandable form.
