The Package Deal #6

Roughing the Kicker

Rate this book

Do you believe in fate? Yeah, me neither until the sexy Navy SEAL I hooked up with three years ago suddenly reappears back in my life in the form of one of my best friend’s older brother. And now, they want me to share a room with him in the Keys.

“Can you share a room with Jesse tonight?”

How could I say no?

What Greg and Cooper didn’t know was Jesse and I met three years ago in Madrid. And when I finally hooked up with the handsome Navy SEAL, our night turned into a weekend of the best sex of my life. Jesse made me see stars twenty-four hours a day. We had a connection, but our timing wasn’t right. He was going back to America, and I was headed back to Italy to play soccer.

It was all for the best, because I didn’t do relationships. Especially with a man nine-years-older and the total opposite of me. But I never forgot him, even though I tried.

Fast forward three years later, and we find ourselves thrown back together again in Portland. I’m the new kicker for the Portland Pirates and Jesse Evans has reappeared in my life. And just as fate would have it, my dream hookup is Cooper’s older brother, and he’s moving his security firm to Portland.

Would he remember me? Did that weekend three years ago affect him as much as it did me?

I guess time would tell when we shared that room in the Florida Keys.

Roughing the Kicker is the final entry in The Package Deal series and focuses on the rekindled relationship between Dominick and Jesse. I really enjoyed their story, I was surprised at the deep and emotional bond between these two. I loved seeing their growth from where they initially started to their HEA, which was a brilliant arc that showcased their intense devotion to one another.

Dom and Jesse are two passionate guys who met and connected unexpectedly three years ago, but the timing was not ideal. Now, they are reunited and the feelings they had are still present and they quickly develop an intense and meaningful relationship that had me swooning.

I loved seeing their relationship grow in surprising ways. This group of friends is always so supportive and their added support towards the end was especially impactful for Jesse and Dom. Overall this is a wonderful conclusion to this series. Looking forward to the next series where I will undoubtedly see these characters pop up again.

I have been sitting on this review for a while trying to muster up the words to do this book justice. I am so sad this series is finished, but I have loved every book in the series, this one being my favourite! Dom and Jesse were so wonderful together, and the chemistry was utterly addicting. I am a sucker for a second chance romance and this one was amazing! Their story from start to finish flowed so well, making me feel all the feels and really enjoying every moment of it! It was realistic and I loved how each MC was able to be independent completely as well as perfect with the other. The authors did an amazing job packing a punch at my emotions, creating characters I love completely, and getting to witness the series grow better and better with each book has been amazing!

I honestly don't know where to start. This series was my favorite series of any I've ever read. Roughing the Kicker is the sixth and final book in the Package Deal Series and what a way to end it. Rheland and Emerson are such magic together. The way they wrote the characters not only in this book but in the previous books in this series, gave me a sense of belonging with all of them. Dom's character wasn't supposed to get a book of his own, but from the moment he stepped into the wheelchair scene in Jackson's book, I knew he was meant for a book of his own. Then when Jesse was introduced in Greg and Cooper's story, there was just something about him that made me want to read more about him.

Dom and Jesse met three years ago in Madrid. They spent three passionate days with each other that neither one of them would've guessed would happen again. Three years later, after looking for Dom, Jesse sees him kicking the ball through the goalposts as the kicker for the Portland Pirates. The reunion wasn't quite what they imagined, but when they both realize how they truly feel about each other, they both know they will never be separated again. They learn things about each other they didn't know and finally understand how much of an impact their meeting from three years ago really had on their present.

Jesse is definitely the romantic of the two and every time he did something romantic, I completely, utterly swooned. What really got me though was little Olivia and her story. Dom knew from the moment he met her, she was meant to be a part of their lives. I honestly cried when she crawled in his lap. This hit so many places in my heart and it means so much that Rheland and Emerson would put this type of storyline together. So thank you for not only this book but for this series. Thank you for writing relatable characters that show what family truly is and how no matter what, they're always there for each other.

I would highly recommend this book and this series to all readers

there’s no conflict

Like literally the MCs tell each other they love each other at the 14% mark, and while I like a low angst love story this was like reading people go about their daily lives and have tons of steamy times and some minor external conflicts that come up but don’t actually cause any friction for the protagonists. I sort of skimmed the last half but I was so bored by the 50% mark and couldn’t believe how much book was left. This probably should have been a short story.

Roughing the Kicker is the last book in the package deal series.
Three years ago Dom and Jesse met In Madrid , unbeknownst to either of them they have never forgotten that time together.
They were extremely passionate then!
They meet again and their passion ignites adding feelings into the mix which had me glued to the pages of the book.
Roughing the Kicker is a book that gave me every feel imaginable, I didn't stop reading until I came to The End!
Such a beautiful story with Dom and Jesse taking centre stage
I loved this stunning book.

This is the last book in this series, and although it can be read as a standalone, I think due to the nature of the book, it is better to read this series in order.

As the last book, it appears sometimes more as an update to all the couples and their news than really a book about Dom and Jesse.

We met Dom the first time in Jacksons book, and I really liked him there ... I still like him here, but his background story fits not perfectly with the character I met for the first.

On the whole, the first half was a bit long for me, and the whole story arc with Olivia was a bit fast, but I loved the secohalf and the updates.
3,5 stars for a sweet story and a nice series ending. I am looking forward to the next books about the SEALs team

Sadly, last book of a lovely series.
I really enjoyed reading Dom and Jesse story, I was curious about them since they appeared in the previous book. They met 3 years before in Madrid, they spent a weekend together and then they never met again until Jesse came to Portland to work with Aidan (but they pretend to not know each other in front of their friends).
History repeats itself and they share a room again during Coop and Greg's vows renewal ceremony.
Their sexual chemistry is insanely hot, they're in total sync and feelings start creeping under the surface, breaking their walls and their facade about just having a good time together, a casual no-mance.
What I liked more about their story is that Jesse and Dominick are not perfect at all.
Jesse appears a though former Seal, but the scars of his past run deep and he's scared to be close to anyone and then to be left alone (again); he's also a little vain and I found that adorable because it make him more real and "imperfect". I love his protective side towards his family and friends and the fact that he's always ready to help in anyway he can (like with Brock); my heart broke a little everytime he talked about Cooper and their relationship, he blamed himself for not being close to him and for not being there when he needed his brother the most.
Dom, the Fast Fucker (cit. Jackson) is young and impulsive, he's scared of being hurt (because of what he suffered while playing soccer in Italy) and he's got the habit of running away; Dom's got this insane energy that makes him think he's too much, that he's not worth the effort. But, in reality, he just needed someone to love unconditionally. And when that someone arrives, it's love at first sight! (Cannot leave spoiler, you just have to read the book).

Another thing I adored of this book (and the entire series) is that all the gang is present and in each other's business: I don't like stories with the "found family" trope when the characters stay in their own books and they're only just mentioned in the following stories. The Portland Pirates guys are a real family and they all grow together, they're always there for one another.
Marcus' parts are hilarious as usual, he's one of the best characters ever written, I love his banter with Alex, how he likes to rile him up.

I'm not ready at all to let these characters go, I hope will meet them again in the authors' new series that will feature Jesse's Seal teammates. I literally cannot wait for that.

Very recommended.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

For a character who was never meant to have his own story, Dominick aka the fast fucker's book was an amazing ending for the Package Deal series. I think I fell in love with him from his first wheelchair race with Jackson in the hospital. His personality was just so fun and bright and I am so happy these lovely authors decided to give him his own love story. And what a story it was!

"Some things in life were meant to be savored, and Dominick Rossi was definitely one of them."

I just loved the whole premise of how Jesse and Dom met. A whirlwind weekend fling 3 years before neither could forget. What are the odds Dom ends up playing for the Pirates and that Jesse's brother just so happens to be married to one. Sounds like fate to me don't you think? And their chemistry? Holy guacamole these two couldn't keep their hands off each other. Horndogs the both of them. I thought I'd have to wave my kindle around to keep it from smoking they were so hot. Aside from the heat, Dom and Jesse also had some incredibly sweet moments as well usually thanks to Jesse's self-proclaimed romantic side.

"Home was a physical place you went to. But since I'd found him again, the location had changed for me. No matter where we were, as long as we were together, it was home."

It was wonderful to see all the guys come together and show support for each other, especially during the last bit of the book. I've fallen in love with all these men over the course of 6 books and their entire found family. I'm also equally as excited that we are also given some new men to fall in love with who will be getting their own stories in a spin off! Hot former Navy Seals? YES PLEASE!!!

Saved the Best For Last

I really hate that this is the end of this series but what a way to end it. I have loved Dominick's character since he first showed up in book 3. His story with Jesse is sweet and oh so good from beginning to end. I will absolutely be reading through this series again.

ROUGHING THE KICKER by Rheland Richmond and Emerson Beckett, book six in The Package Deal series, is Domenick and Jesse's story.

Domenick and Jesse met in Madrid and spent one incredible weekend together but went their separate ways. A few years later when they are back in the same place, Jesse pulls some strings to make sure he and Domenick are together and the more time they spend together, the more they don't want things to end.

Domenick and Jesse took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride. They had me smiling from ear to ear, crying sad and happy tears and laughing out loud at their crazy antics. I absolutely love this found family and need to go back and read everyone's books as well as I can not wait for the upcoming books for cameos from this group.

I have adored Dom since his introduction in Necessary Roughness and was so excited he
got his own story. Let's just say it did not disappoint. The chemistry between Dom and Jesse was undeniable, their story was low angst, high heat and full of friendship, banter, love and found family. As bittersweet as it felt reading this book it gave me hope for what's next in store for this universe. We got an introduction to Jesse's team of former Navy Seals who happen to be moving to Portland with his security company, sexy military men? I mean come on, LFG! The authors have come close to perfection with this series, their collaboration is outstanding and if the next is anything like this one, sign me the hell up, I am so here for it! I absolutely recommend this book, 100% and if you haven't start this whole series, imo it's a must read!

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆☆
ROUGHING THE KICKER is the sixth installment in The Package Deal series. It is the final book. I don't feel that you would get enough from the book reading it as a standalone. It HAS to be read in the order the authors intended.

Dominick and Jesse met three years ago in Madrid and had the best weekend of their lives. They were in two separate places in life. Dominick headed back to Italy to play soccer and Jesse to America. They never forgot that weekend or each other; what they never expected was finding out Jesse is Cooper's older brother and Dominick is the new kicker for the Pirates. Can one week in Key West together bring back that instant chemistry they had three years ago?

I am so happy Dominick got his own happily ever after. He was such a great character. I loved the big brother relationship Jackson took with him, and how they instantly pulled him into their friend family without question. ROUGHING THE KICKER is basically a low, low-angst read, but the chemistry and steam factor between Jesse and Dominick was everything I needed!

I am so sad this is the end of the series. It was such a spectacular read with fantastic characters. I can't wait for what comes next from this duo!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the sixth book in the series, but I do think that it is a strong story in its own right – and you can always go back and catch up on the rest of the stories later!

I really enjoyed how Jesse had been trying to find Dom since their encounter – always aware that their 'fling' had been much more important than either of them had acknowledged at the time. That there was a family link, and he was able to use his resources to engineer the perfect second chance was perfect.

As a Brit, I enjoyed the soccer link and how Dom had transferred across as an NFL kicker, it was an interesting twist, and fitted the reason for him feeling he needed to leave Europe. His reluctance to be true to himself made sense in that context, and it gave the story some intriguing plot lines.

They were SO delicious together, so in tune, and yet not subsumed by each other. There is a really satisfying amount of sport and the complexity of the role of kicker, as well as following some of the activities of Jesse's business too. And their relationship is a great mix of passion and friendship, yum!

This is the final book in this series and to enjoy it the most, you really need to read the books in order.

Jesse and Dom met again three years after a weekend spent together in Spain when they are sharing a room (and a bed) at Cooper's and Greg's vow renewal. The chemistry they had before is flaring up again and while they both agree on a no-mance week, it clearly shows, there is more to it.

This is a very low angst/no drama, insta-love, very sweet and very physical book. And in my opinion, this is the problem with it.

I do like no angst/drama books but I actually think this one could have benefited from it as it is otherwise drowing a bit in sweetness. There are some hints about Dom's past in Europe but instead of making it work as a topic, it's kind of lost and just finished of at the end. I would have loved to see more of it as the situation made Dom the man he is today.

Jesse is a Navy Seal and runs a security company with three teammates. I would have expected him to have at least some reminders of his service but it's written like being a Seal is like a walk in the park. He lost someone but even that feels too two-dimensional to make a big impact and very fragmented.

The other thing which spoilt the book for me is the huge amount of sexy times. It felt like everytime these two are alone, they have to have sex. Yes, they are reconnecting and both are quite adventurous but hello, I want a romance story, not an erotic novel.

Otherwise I actually like these two, they are funny, the age gap is ok as Dom, who I found a bit young and naive in the previous books, actually comes over like he is mid-Twenties. They do have chemistry and while lots of things happen very quickly, it does work.

The rest of the gang is there as well, I love how the couples are interwoven into the stories and not just staying at the back but full in. They cheer these two on and look out for them.

I hope Jesse's team is getting their series as well.

A nice conclusion to this series.

I have enjoyed reading this series. I know I’m in the minority but there was just too much sexy time in this one for me; a lot of it seemed gratuitous and didn’t advance the story; I found myself skipping many of the scenes. Now having said that, I did like reading Dom and Jesse’s book.

I love a good second chance story and this one was very good. These two guys met three years ago and didn’t think they’d ever see each other again. When fate stepped in, they were given a second chance. These two couldn’t keep their hands off of each other after they were forced to share a room..

I enjoyed getting caught up with all of the guys from the previous stories in this series. There was a bit of drama for Dom, coming from his days of playing professional soccer, and that kept me on pins and needles for a bit.

I should probably mention that I think you’ll enjoy this series more if you read the books in order. Since Roughing the Kicker gives us an update on all of the previous couples, you might feel a little lost if you haven’t read their books.

I liked how this book introduced new characters from Jesse’s world and I’m looking forward to reading those books.

A copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

An enthusiastic 4.5 stars given.

Dominick stole my heart in ‘Unnecessary Roughness’ and I’m so glad he got himself a book and an HEA with Jesse.

This book is a heat filled low angst, second chance love story. Jesse and Dominick had a passionate weekend together in Madrid 3 years prior and neither managed to ever forget the other but the timing wasn’t right so they went their separate ways. Fast forward 3 years later and Jesse spots Dom kicking a field goal for the Pirates on TV and is on the first flight to Portland determined not to let Dominick slip through his fingers again.

Jesse and Dominick have a schmoopy fast track romance but I was totally swept along for the ride. The speed at which they went forward, the twist that occurred and resolved with zero issue requires a little suspension of disbelief but I didn’t care. I was happily cheering them on as they were truly perfect for each other. ‘Roughing the Kicker’ is a steamy story full of love and family - both found and biological. I’m so happy that there will be more in this universe coming up as I’m not ready to say goodbye to the Portland Pirates or the interesting side characters we’ve met along the way.

I love that Dominic gets his own story - the character almost stole the whole show in Unnecessary Roughness and I wanted to learn more about the young man who raced around everywhere at lightning speeds and could kick like a champ! Roughing the Kicker not only provides answers to how and why Dom is who he is today, but also gives us a chance to meet the man who stole his heart and put him on the trajectory to where he is today - Jesse!

This book combines the best of the series - the friendships, the passion, the humour, the chemistry and just a little bit of underhanded dealings into one amazing book. We also get to glimpse and interact with all of the previous couples and their extended families. My only downside was that there were three spots in the book where I went - okay they've got it the book can be done... but I'm so glad I read right through to the final twist - it was the perfect way to wrap up the series.

I truly hope this duo continues to write together and if I may suggest a spin-off series featuring a company of former Navy Seals who recently relocated to the Portland area as their next foray, then this is me asking...

This is Dom and Jesse's book and the last book in the series. The 2 were mentioned in previous books. It is best to have read the previous books since the MC's from those books are in this installment also and play a big part in the book. This is a second chance romance with a 9 year age gap between the 2 MC's. Dom and Jesse originally met 3 years ago in Madrid when Dom was still playing soccer for an Italian team and Jesse had just got out of the Navy. They had a weekend fling then went their separate ways but never really forgot each other. They meet up again in Portland. Dom is now the kicker for the Portland Pirates football team and Jesse is moving his personal security company to Portland. They meet again due to connections with friends and family for Cooper and Greg's renewal of vows in Key West and share a steamy week together. They admit they are in love with each other and determine to be boyfriends when they return home to Portland. I like how the author shows how each of them deal with jealousy and making compromises when it comes to where to live and tolerating each other's quirks. This was a great ending to the series.

This is a cute story between Dom, the new Pirates kicker and Jesse, an ex-navy seal security consultant, as well as brother, business partner, & best friend to some of our favourite previous characters.

Two passionate men who balance each other beautifully. Jesse’s calm to Dom’s hotheadedness. Dom’s speed and energy to Jesse’s slow thoughtful manner. It makes them a cute couple.

With a secret history that neither has forgotten, their reunion seems like fate. And one night together is enough to prove their chemistry is still as intense. Their story moves quickly but they still have enough twists and turns to keep things lively.

And of course, you see plenty of the rest of this football family to get your fill of all your favourites and get glimpses of their futures.

It’s a cute story with plenty of spice and a sweet ending.

I knew when I got this book I would ready it immediately. I have loved every book in this series and knew this one would be a good one. Well it exceeded my expectations as wonderful Dominic (Dom) finally got his story. I have loved him in other books and his relationship with Jesse the navy seal is perfection. I love that the two had meet earlier experiencing a knock your socks off weekend but that is all it was as was supposed to be. However both never got the other one out of his system and now three years later fate brings them back together in Portland of course the passion and chemistry is still there and this time they jump right into a wonderful relationship. They are funny, compassionate and create enough steam to blur your vision i also love the other wonderful supportive characters and they remind us we define family as we want to. I hope this is not the end of this series, but if it ends what a great and satisfying ending. I did receiver an ARC and leave this honest review.

The book was well-written and had genuine emotion and connection. You could see the attraction is very mutual and I loved the dual POV so you could tell how they were both falling for each other and that it was more than just physical. The MC’s had a deep connection and their chemistry was strong and passionate. The steamy scenes were well-written and had me enthralled. It was a rollercoaster of passionate emotions and it was bittersweet when it was finally over.

I started to read this book first since it was an ARC, but I was so confused as to what was happening and there was not enough of a backstory to get into the story. So, I started from the beginning of the series and I am so glad that I did. This series is so great and it contains a wealth of genuine and fantastic characters. I highly recommend reading them in order, as there are some great past characters in this book plus it just makes more sense that way.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is book 6 in The Packaged Deal series. You really need to have read the previous books to understand who everyone is and their relationship to each other. This is the story of Dom and Jesse. Dom is the new kicker for the Portland Pirates NFL football team. We have seen him a little bit in previous books. Jesse is Cooper's brother and a retired Navy SEAL. Along with being a part owner of security firm. The two of them end up sharing a room for a wedding. Everyone thinks that they are being good sports about the booking mix up. But in reality, they met three years prior and never forgot one another. This is their story. The two of them have chemistry for days. I liked how they really show each other and not just the image that they presented to others. The book is well written and easy to read. There is next to no angst and the book will leave you with a smile on your face. I am looking forward to the spin off series about the security firm. I really enjoyed this book.

Dom and Jesse have a history that the folks in their group do not know about. And although each man swears to himself that he is not as affected by the other as he is they cannot keep their hands off of one another. When Dom travels with the crew - the couples in this series are an extended and found family that are truly there for one another - to Greg and Cooper's celebration their reunion is not something that can be kept to just a few days of fun. They truly want one another but each has a reason to be a bit hesitant to give in to wanting a relationship. Not only do they wind up together they wind up meeting a child in need of shelter and a family who chooses them to be her parents and they not only find themselves quickly together, they also embrace and learn to be parents to Olivia on the fly. This story was such a nice way to bring this series to an end.

Absolutely loved Dominick and Jesse's story

Absolutely loved Dominick and Jesse's story: probably my favorite of the whole Package Deal series!

Invited to the Florida Keys for his brother Cooper's vow renewal, Jesse has to share a room with Dominick - "the fast fucker" and new Kicker of the Pirates NFL team. But what no one else knows is that Jesse and Dominick met 3 years earlier in Spain, and Jesse hasn't ever forgotten the hotheaded, warm hearted former soccer player.

This was pretty low angst despite Jesse's history losing his boyfriend in combat and the process they go through to keep their family.

In this you'll find:
🏈 MM Romance
🏈 Lots of spicy scenes, toys, rimming, edging
🏈 NFL Kicker + Former Navy SEAL
🏈 Second chance love
🏈 Only one bed
🏈 Love after loss
🏈 8 year Age gap
🏈 Foster care
🏈 Adoption
🏈 Death in combat
🏈 Homophobia in soccer
🏈 Homophobic harassment
🏈 Found family
🏈 A HEA

Audiobooks.com review

I know I say this every time but I seriously have a new favorite couple and this was the perfect ending to the Package Deal series.

Emerson and Rheland have done a fantastic job at not only giving us a beautiful story of second chance, but finding a home, family and your place. These authors are the best at giving you found family and it is my weakness in a series.

This is the last in the series and Dom and Jessie hold it up! Having met before they reconnect at Jessie’s brothers destination wedding and end up having share a room, wink wink when you set it up with your security firm to make sure you do!! They find more than just a hook up they discover they may just be meant to be together.
This was just as great as the others and I feel in love with Dom and Jessie and yes their struggles, extended family, friends and building their own family. I loved that this was the perfect launch for The Portland Protectors and so excited for more from these authors!

I don’t know where to start…. I love this group of guys and was dreading this day. But, what a finale it was! There wasn’t any angst to speak of, just Dom, the fast f***er😂, and Jesse, the hot former SEAL and their sweet love story. This book is right up there with Jackson and Simon’s as my favorite. They have off the charts chemistry, and from the beginning they just fit. I loved that all the guys and kids make frequent appearances throughout the book. It had all the feels I was looking for, and I shed some tears at all the heartfelt moments. I’m glad that we are getting a spin off series and will hopefully run into these guys again. The found family created in this series is very special. I can see many re-reads in my future and I can’t wait for the audios to come out! Received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
