An action-packed shonen fantasy from the acclaimed author of Fushigi Yûgi! Reads R to L (Japanese Style) for audiences T.
In a mythical world where humans and gods coexist, a ceremony marking the new governing princess is about to occur for the first time in 60 years. Only a girl from the Hime Clan may take this position, but the lack of females born to this family means that a boy called Arata must pose for the role. Meanwhile in modern-day Japan, a boy named Arata Hinohara is starting his new life in high school. He wants to put memories of his difficult past behind him, but things aren't going to be simple when he discovers a mysterious connection to the first Arata...
Yuu Watase (渡瀬悠宇) is a Japanese shoujo manga-ka. She is known for her works Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, Ceres: The Celestial Legend, Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend. She likes all music, except heavy metal and old traditional music.
She received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo for Ceres, Celestial Legend in 1997. Since writing her debut short story "Pajama de Ojama" ("An Intrusion in Pajamas"), Watase has created more than 80 compiled volumes of short stories and continuing series. Because of her frequent use of beautiful male characters in her works, she is widely regarded in circles[which?] as a bishōnen manga artist.[citation needed] In October 2008, Watase began her first shōnen serialization, Arata: The Legend in Weekly Shōnen Sunday. Her name is romanized as "Yû Watase" in earlier printings of Viz Media's publications of Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, and Ceres, The Celestial Legend, while in Viz Media's Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend her name is romanized as "Yuu Watase". In Chuang Yi's English-language versions of Fushigi Yugi (spelled without a macron or circumflex), her name is romanized as "Yu Watase".
The battle with Yatake (shinsho from volume 11) comes to an end and it doesn't go exactly as expected. Later on, Hinohara learns more about Mikusa and things get interesting. Especially because...
Back in Japan, we learn more about what Harunawa (the sho who swicthed with Kadowaki) is trying to do. We also learn more about Oribe along the way.
This volume is full of relationship drama now that we know there is a "chosen woman" out there for Hinohara.
There be spoilers ahead. The thing I'm interested in discussing this volume requires plot details.
Other stuff happened this volume but ehhh, you can read someone else's review for that. I'm too lazy to write without feelings!inspiration driving me. xD 3 stars
...I'm like butchering everyone's names here. Harunawa. Yataka. Whatever y'all know who I mean (I hope)
So I vaguely revise my statement about Mikusa (in vol 10's review) but not really. There's something secretive in the land of Amawakuni and hopefully I find out soon since I only own up to volume 16 right now and vol 23 is due out in America in September 2015... (I hear this is on hiatus in Japan tho? so...whatever I waited like 10 years for Genbu Kaiden to complete. I got the patience of a Saint).
YATAKA YOU CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.
Oh oh and since Kanate is off doing things that will be horrendously emotional for Hinohara soon I'm sure, we now have the comedic stylings of Kannagi and Yataka! (the less said about Hirahue...Hirihue...Hiruhue...? whatever he was one of Kugura's Zokusho and not one I liked. I miss you Eto.)
AND NO MIKUSA YOU DON'T GET NICE THINGS FIND YOUR OWN LOVE INTEREST AND LEAVE KOTOHA'S ALONE.
Lord Yataka tries to submit to Arata Hinohara. Tsukuyo will not accept him, but Yataka decides to join them on their quest. in the contemporary world of Japan, it is revealed that there was a switch that took place 15 years before. a girl from Japan switched with a girl from the Hime clan (she was being pursued because of her being the heir to the Princess). the girls were switched and the one in the Hime clan, Mikusa, painted the tattoo on her wrist and was raised up as a boy by her foster parents. the Sho in Japan has been searching for the girl that was switched and has found it to be the very girl who has befriended Arata.
