The only reason why this may not be my first and last book from this author is that I have another one that was offered for free, and that I might try some day. Probably not too soon.
This was a short book with 130 pages, definitely not too taxing, but neither very enthralling or compelling to read.
My perception is that the poor 32 yo girl, abandoned by her future husband, was half ready to settle with anyone willing to take and keep her, bonus point if he could stand her chubby thighs. When she met the poor 38 yo man whose latest date just dumped while he tried to get her affianced, and some others might have behaved quite similarly before, it was a match made in heaven: too desperate willing to settle for almost anything and to hang onto the other so closely that he/she would never be free. I never got a strong sense that they really understood the other, outside of his/her willingness to finally get married and have a family.
And I so hated all that each did to try to show his love for the other - buying a house on sight, without discussing any plans for the future with his future spouse and without her seeing it did not strike me as romantic but rather dumb. All mentions of her work seemed totally off and idealistic, not taking into account any of the constraints, like where did she find the financing for her venture capital.
Last thing, the most commonly use curse in this book is criminy. Its repeated use got old from probably the 2nd or 3rd time, except I had to read it in total 11 times. Over under 130 pages.

The Story Behind the Story...
THE SOMETIME BRIDE

Some years ago, I was staying at a scenic country inn in Virginia. It was a place so primed for romance, that I couldn't help but think how horrible it might feel to come to this couples' retreat only to find yourself ditched. Next, I thought, what if you weren't the only one experiencing heartache at the lovely locale? And, what if that other person had been placed there by the fates because he (or she) was precisely the right person for you?

The seeds for the story bloomed quickly, complete with a stunning "swim god" and capable -- yet vulnerable -- Carrie. I couldn't wait to write the story and see where these characters took me. It turned out the adventure was filled with lots of love and laughter, and some unexpected secondary characters with archaic expressions that made me smile.

When you get to know Carrie you better understand the impact her past experiences (as well as being raised by her grandmother) have had on her. You also start to feel how desperately she wants to find a true and lasting love. Mike Davis has his own history, fraught with multiple girlfriends and a checkered past, but that doesn't mean he can't recognize the real deal when he sees it.

So, if you're a believer in romance and the fact that destiny sometimes plays a hand, please come along for the ride. I hope you'll enjoy reading this story, as much as I did writing it.

With best wishes for happy endings,

Ginny Baird

Sometime Bride and almost groom

Cute book. Fun read. Nothing so over the top you want to think how fake is that. Just two people at the right place, right time. Enjoy the read.

My Thoughts...

Today started out a sunny and beautiful day, however, around lunchtime it became a rainy day. Therefore, all I wanted was a chick-lit book to read to keep my mushy mind busy. I chose this easy and I'm sure, predictable book to read. So while the lightning flashes, the thunder rolls and the rain dances on my windows, I am cuddled up reading my afternoon away. It doesn't get better than this!!!

That was what I call a "Cotton Candy" fluffy story. It was so sweet that it just melted into my brain like "Sweet Cotton Candy." If you were looking for something deep to read, look elsewhere. This was just a fun summer afternoon read to past the time of day.

It is a part of my Kindle library, it is a freebie I found on Bookbub.com, and I enjoyed enough to award it 3 'Wedding Bell' stars.

I tried very hard to like this one. The setup was a bit cliched, but could easily make for a cute story.

Unfortunately the writing was very weak. The editing was horrible with numerous homophone errors. Eventually I was spending more time making mental corrections than following the story.

I really wanted to like this one, but it just didn't work for me.

This was a sweet little romance book. I liked the two main characters Mike and Carrie and of course Grandma Russell, who was a feisty old lady. The timeline in the story was unrealistic and at times a little ridiculous, but it was cute story. I think it would have been a good full length novel, with their relationship given more time to develop. I think this is a great in between book.

What a cute story of two jilted people that meet and fall in love. The two happen to run into each other at an Inn and the romance begins. They both seemed to be meant for each other and fate brought them there. It’s a short story but worth reading.

Love at first sight

It is an overall sweet story. Not as much actual dialogue as characters thoughts and musings. The story seemed longer than it actually was because of that. If you are looking for a story that makes you smile then this is just the book.

Ugh. I tried for the third time to read this and ended up with a DNF — something about it was just so dull and grating. It was like someone’s boring mother decided to try her hand at writing a novella for her ladies’ book club. Everything the protagonist wears is sensible, and we get just as much narration about her looking flushed, putting on control top tights, and wearing responsible shoes as the actual romance and dialogue. She refers to her love interest by his full name all the time too, which just made her seem like a nagging schoolteacher. Oh, and let’s not forget all the exclamations of ‘Criminy!’. It was frankly impossible to believe such a frumpy dork was a thirty-something investor who had been on the cover of Forbes. Spare yourself the agony, so you don’t sprain your eyeballs rolling them as hard as I rolled mine.

Carrie St. John and Mike Davis have a lot more in common when they meet beside a pool at a romantic resort besides both of them just being dumped by the person they were ready to marry.

I enjoyed the humor, the dialogue and the miscommunication and reconnections as the plot developed. Despite the difficulties with communication, the short time they have known each other the attraction is strong, deep and the kind to build a life together on as they find they both want the same thing in The Sometime Bride.

Carrie and Mike meet at the hotel where they were dumped by there special someone. She threw her ring in the hotel pool, and Mike is diving to find his that his had thrown in. Coming up with the ring that was Carrie, and she is refusing to take it. The talk between is similar of what happened to them. Nice humorous story, of joining to solve the problem for the other person. Could a real love come from this. Enjoyable to read and hoping for a happy ending.

Romance

Mike needed to stop forcing rings on women who didn't want them. And kept the one women who did waiting. This is a quick and easy read. Which is part of its problem. Everything felt rushed, I'm not even sure they had a conversation after getting together and certainly never a disagreement. It would have been nice if they worked together instead of just assuming what would make the other happy.

Carrie who has just been jilted by her fiance a short while before the wedding meets Mike who was also jilted by his girlfriend who he asked to marry. She can't face her family members and he can't face his classmates at the reunion so they agree to act as fiance's for both events. What started out as play acting might turn into love but there are other factors that may change that.

I feel bad saying this about a writer, but I do not know how on earth something this amateur gets published! I only finished the book just to see if it could actually wrap up as bad as it started (it did). I feel like I just read a high-school girl's idea of what an adult romance would be. But I wrote better dialogue in high school....

A sweet love story

I hAve come to enjoy her stories very much. Ginny has a way of making the stories she writes so romantic, funny and very quickly reads. As I neared the end of the book I couldn't put it down and read all through the night. I recommend reading Ginny Baird.

Another book which was different than normal. Just when you thought it was going to go one way or another, it throws a fastball at you. Great chemistry between the hero and heroine.

It closes the loop on the ending very well.

A Beautiful story of sometimes having to kiss a few frogs and ducks before you can find the Prince and Swan of your dreams, Carrie and Mike meet in an unlikely way and that is where the journey really takes off. I enjoyed this so much and will love reading it over and over again.

Two engaged people (a man who has been dumped, and a woman who also been dumped) meet at the swimming pool. Acting as the other's bride-to-be or groom-to-be eventually turns to love, giving these two a happily ever after.

A little bit of thesaurus issues in this novella. .

Adorable

The wedding gifts had a gift of the maji(?) feel. It was cute how they were planning the wedding without the proposal.
