The secret is out and I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for the prince. Less the main characters and more the current consort's past friendship before things went sour. Curious about what happens next, although the preview gave me a good idea.

"This past week has been so precious. Each day like a treasure."

This volume unfolded SO differently than I thought it would!!

With the previous volume ending with Tousetsu knowing who Reirin really is, I totally thought that the secret of the body swap would travel far and wide in the palace! I was shocked (though I probably shouldn't have been) when Reirin gave her one request to Tousetsu saying if she did this, it would be enough for everything that has happened in the previous volumes. Once again our villainess surprises me in her compassion for those around her!

I confess I was worried when the scene changed after their confrontation and instead focused on the Consorts that it wouldn't be as exciting, but that was not necessarily the case. With Keigetsu knowing who the mastermind is (or at the time thinks she knows), the next chapters share some pivotal information about the past and why this person would do the things they are doing. I would have never guessed the person at all because everyone seems very different from what was shown in the past, but all the signs really DO point to this person. I supposed that was why we needed to learn about it.

However, my heart once again broke for our actual villainess and the question she asked Reirin because despite being in a new body where everything should be amazing, it's not. She continues to struggle and appreciate her chapters despite how heartbreaking they are because I find her brokenness relatable and can never bring myself to hate her.

I do want to mention that I continue to love Reirin and LeeLee's relationship so much! Should Reirin ever go back to her original body, I truly hope their banter and close relationship will never ever change as it is so much fun, but also very touching!

Once again there were more twists and turns that left me shocked, laughing, or cheering! I hope our villainess (who really isn't a good villainess) continues to thrive and never takes life for granted!

I really like this series, but this volume felt like it was setting up the drama for the next volume rather than resolving anything. We got a lot of background information (1/2 or so of the book was other characters’ perspectives) which is good, but didn’t move the plot forward much. I think maybe a day has passed over the course of the volume? Maximum 2.

This one was filled with a lot of back and forth between court ladies and a lot of flashbacks. Story line didn’t really move forward which I found a bit disappointing. It also revealed some interesting secrets and answers to some questions, so that was nice.
I would have liked to have seen more development in the romance department, but maybe next volume? I have been rooting for the eagles captain, but in this volume he pulled a creeper move. I still can’t tell if he was serious or testing reirin. If he was serious then idk who to ship her with. The prince or eagle captain? I think the prince is a jerk so I don’t like him anyways. I wouldn’t mind if he was chosen though if he made reirin his one and only and disbanded harems. It is then that i would give him a thumbs up, but unless he makes some changes, i hope he fails in his love endeavor with her.
Reading the back and forth between the court ladies reaffirmed my hatred of harems too. The men playing favorites with women as if they’re objects to be tossed around. The women clawing at each others throats to get ahead of eachother. I hate it.

Women are pushed to the very edges of composure. No matter how intimate a friendship, the rivalry will swallow it whole. All that lingers of that promising bond with a friend… are the fragments of a broken teacup.

Noble Consort Shu… you may have been plotting to kill our two girls all along, but I respect your drive. How can I not say mother?

I adore the few crumbs we got of the previous generation. Turns out the Kou-Shu animosity goes wayyy back. Oh, boy. We’re in for a ride. Meeting all the other consorts and maidens in that one scene had me on the edge of my seat!

This series is developing well so far! We got backstories for various characters in this volume, which added so much to the overall dynamic of the cast with everything happening.

Extrait :
