Amber has a lot on her mind. Her mom is engaged. Her father is moving back to the United States. Her parents fight every time they talk on the phone - and Amber is caught in the middle. It's enough to make Amber Brown see red!
Paula Danziger was an American children's author. She wrote more than 30 books, including her 1974 debut The Cat Ate My Gymsuit, for children's and young adult audiences. At the time of her death, all her books were still in print; they had been published in 53 countries and translated into 14 languages.
This specific book brings me back to the Second grade. I remember going to the library and checking this book out to see what is was about and ending up loving the book and reading all the Amber Brown books. I thought they were really funny and related a lot to my life at the time since they were about the second grade. Overall this series is great for young readers.
Amber Brown Sees Red, written by Paula Danziger is the story of a girl named Amber who struggles to deal with her parent’s divorce. They frequently argue over the telephone. On top of that, Amber’s father is trying to convince Amber to live with him. I enjoyed this book and seeing how all of Amber’s chaos would play out. I may recommend this to some friends.
A must read series for any child dealing with divorced or separated parents. Amber Brown is going through a whirl wind of emotions with all the changes going on in her life. She likes her moms new fiance Max but hates that his presence in their life means that her parents have no chance of reconciliation. Also hearing the occasional comment from her parents about HIM or HER in that annoyed tone is upsetting. Amber Brown shows a great example to kids about how to approach talking to parents and reminding them they are the grownups and should act like it.
This is the last of the Amber Brown books that I can remember reading as a child, and I got qutie a laugh out of some of the antics revisitng the story with my grown up prespective. Amber is such a cool kid, and I don't even know if I realized how much of a role model she should have been back then.
And of coruse, I have arranged my takeaway thoughts on this book into a haiku, as is my habit:
"To grow is to learn People we love are complex. And some. . .a bit dross."
This is the story of a 4th grader, struggling with growing up, her parents divorce, and a soon to be step-dad. This was funny, while showing that , things change and life goes on.
"Amber Brown Sees Red" is a book that's like a rollercoaster ride of feelings! Amber's mom is getting married, and her dad is moving back to the United States. But the problem is, her parents keep arguing, and Amber feels stuck in the middle.
This book is all about how Amber deals with her mixed-up feelings. Sometimes she's angry, sometimes she's sad, and sometimes she's just confused. But through it all, she tries her best to stay strong and figure things out.
I really liked how the author, Paula Danziger, showed us what it's like to have big changes happening in your family. It made me think about how I would feel if I were in Amber's shoes. And even though there are tough moments, there are also funny and heartwarming parts that made me smile.
"Amber Brown Sees Red" is a great book for anyone who likes stories about families and feelings. It's like talking to a friend who understands what you're going through. So if you want a book that's full of ups and downs but leaves you feeling hopeful in the end, this is the one for you!
The “skunk day” plot was interesting. I liked how this book shows how messy divorces can be. Things between Amber’s mother and Max have gotten more serious, which only adds to the conflict.
Not as good as the previous books, but it was a decent enough read. I’m getting a bit tired of the “Bullentin!” alerts from Brandi, though.
Generally, very interesting, but nothing SPECTACULAR about the story. Good book for readers of Junie B. Jones to "graduate" to a higher level of chapter book. This book: preachy and a bit" Afterschool Special", for my taste.
I rated this book 5/5 because i really liked it!! the book amber brown sees read is about a girl named amber brown and she is getting really mad because her parents are divorced and everything is going wrong!!
I really enjoyed this book cause i read it just in 2 or 3 hours. This book is amazing . This is really a 4th grade book in my perspective .But still I liked it . :)
a great book for kids whose parents are divorced but are still fighting. amber becomes frustrated and she does kind of play them against each other. it also addresses when one parent is engaged to another person and the mixed emotions that the child goes through, especially when the other person is likeable.
This chapter book is about a nine year old girl named Amber who's parents are divorced. Amber's mom is getting married soon to a guy named Max who Amber likes. She like Max but doesn't want her life to be turned upside down after the marriage. She fears that after the marriage her parent will never be able to get back together. One day Amber's father call and says he will be moving back to America and want her to live with him sometimes. Once her parents come in contact with on another they can't stop fighting which makes Amber feel like she is going crazy. This story is appropriate for children who are in upper elementary grades. The story is full of drama which will keep children interested and wanting to know what will happen next. The language use is very rich and helps readers to imagine the plot of the story. There are very few illustrations in this book. The few pictures are black and whit and only take up half a page. The language in this book will keeps children interested rather than the illustrations.
Quote from this book " Things don't always work out the way I want them to. But Im learning."
What I like about my book was that Amber brown was tired of her parents arging all the time that they did not have time for her.So next day when she got up to go to school she was wondering was she getting taller or shorter because her pants where not fitting. So when she went to school it was skunk day because there was A family of skunks that made the hole school smell horrible. Then when the princpal was making A anoucement two boys were acting like skunks so they got suspended. Then they put all the students on the buses. Then all the kid start to scream help me to max amber new stepfather. The max, amber, brian amber's friend .Then they went to the arcade then when they went to the coner to get prizes. But amber, brian could not decide what to get so instad they put there tickets together and buy one big thing. So then max sign up amber for the bowling team even though she is not very good at it.So then amber got to see her father.
This was my first foray into Amber Brown and I'm not quite sure what I think of her yet. She's a bit snotty, for one thing. To be fair, she does have a rough time in this book--her mom is getting remarried, and although she likes her stepfather-to-be Max, she's still anxious about how her life will change. Then her father calls to tell her that he's moving back to America and wants partial custody of her. That's a lot for a nine-year-old to handle.
The thing that irked me the most was that Amber is a fourth-grader, yet this book is written at a very low level. Not that all books about fourth-graders have to be written for fourth-graders, but there seemed to be a disconnect here. As I work my way through Holly's bookshelves this year, I'm sure I'll run into Amber Brown again. Maybe I'll like her better next time.
We've really enjoyed the books in this series, although unfortunately we have not read them in order. So we are doing a bit of catch up, I suppose. It kind of detracts from the story, since the plot of one book is just a continuation of the previous one, but we still liked this one and plan to read the rest.
The plot line about the parent's divorce is wearing a bit thin - our girls are constantly saying, "Gee, I hope you and Daddy don't get divorced!" when we read this story. I suppose it's something that all children worry about - I know I did. And it is an important topic and I hope that it helps them understand how their friends and cousins feel, going through it themselves.
In any case, our girls enjoy the Amber Brown books a lot and we will press on...
this was one of my all time favorite books i read almost every mounth it never gets old. it is about a girl named amber brown who haves just reached that age were she is liking boys. she spends almost all her with her baby sitter whom is bascily her best friend. her parents a re divorced and that is really taking a tole on her life. her dad is trying to re-marry, and her mom haves a new boyfriend. i believe that eeryone would enjoy this book; but that's just my opinion.
i read this book when i was on 5th grade. in this book amber brown is having trouble with her family, because her parents are divorced and she is having trouble with that. i understood this book perfectly, because my parents are divorvced, so i could really relate to amber in a realy emotional way. i loved the book just as the other books. it shows you divorce from a different pair of eyes, a child.
While I adore the "Amber Brown" series, if I had to pick a least favorite of the group, this would be it. You see, each book has a healthy dose of drama to keep it relevant with its intended audience. "Sees Red", however, is nothing BUT drama. It does have its lighter moments, but they're few in number. One of the most memorable parts was when Amber - tired of her trademark pigtails - decides to get her hair cut short. And then she hates *that* hairstyle even more.
This is about a girl whose dad moved away from their house and how her mom got a new boyfriend. Her dad did not talk to her much and so she then started to like her mom's boyfriend as a dad. Then her father decides to move back to her city and they became a happy family. I would use this in a classroom to show students that even having a messy family can still work out just fine.
This book was fairly interesting. This was my first Amber Brown book. I was surprised by how long it was, and this might explain why not too many of my kids pick these up. However, there were some funny parts, and the characters were interesting and believable. It did come across a little 80's/90's in parts, but overall, it was not bad.
Very realistic of divorce. Mom is getting re-married. Dad is moving back to the US. (girlfriendless) Parents always fighting. Amber is fighting mad! No wonder she "sees red". I like how Amber can articulate her feelings.
My daughter (age 7) thinks this is a really good book. I read it on her recommendation and will help her find the rest of the series at the library. Funny main character working through some big life adjustments.
I like that the books are short and show a few days in Amber's life. There's not much to this story but I like it all the same. I realize the series might not be as fun if they weren't nostalgic for me, however.
amber brown gets very angry at her parents for fighting and putting her in the middle of it. this is a great series for children with divorced parents.
