I don't even know where to start, but I didn't like this one bit. The FMC is immature and annoying at best. I lost count of how many times I read "prick" and "bastard" (calling someone this qualifies as being enemies now?), and honestly her animosity towards the king was so unbelievable everything felt forced.
The king is about as bland as they come, too. Personality? Don't know her. My man could be any other MLI in a romantasy novel and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I know 0 about him and what I know was told rather than shown, which has to also be one of my biggest gripes with this book. I can't stand books that hold my hand and this one felt like it held my hand while it spoon-fed me. Terrible feeling.
This is good for one thing, though. Take a shot every time Morozco says "little bird" and you'll go into a coma, so if you need to get some sleep go right ahead.
Maybe some people come here for the smut but even that was mediocre. Overall would not recommend.

Candace Robinson and Elle Beaumont introduced me to the world of Frosteria with a short story and debut novel last year, and now we visit the land once again... freezing from the wickedness of some characters and the chilling setting that keeps readers shivering with intrigue. Assassins, revenge, jealousy, angry, hatred, love, companionship, trust, and violence. Not to mention all the sexual tension (sometimes things get so hot you generate a surprising balance with the frosty temperatures in the background). I've come to rely on this dynamic duo to share an intense plot with memorable characters and a balance of love/hate -- you never know which way your feelings will go when it comes to some of the characters.
You'll love the super strong female lead character and the powerful concept of stealing or keeping the throne in these icy worlds. Animals and people can be best friends, but what happens when that attraction turns sultry and passionate? Some say Beauty and the Beast themes... I say releasing the raging inner monster lurking within all of us. Definitely good as a stand-alone but immersing yourself in the entire world of these creatures and humans always captures and keeps my attention. Anytime Robinson co-writes with another author, she makes the story seamless... like stitching together the imagination of brilliance and captivation.

This book was really not it to me. The male protagonist gave me the ick.... he often talked about how how our female main character, was not as pretty as others, often even making her seem ugly. And for a fanro I just feel like that's not it. .
There was next to no world building, and the plot legit just ends. like the book ends and nothing has actually been resolved.
also the smut was not it, it made me feel so uncomfortable.

What a disappointing read. I didn’t believe the characters were in love, and there was no plot to distract from their lack of chemistry. They were like snow: dense, bland, and quick to melt under the slightest bit of pressure.

This book has a bit of interesting cross-series-functionality (is that a term?) to it. This book is a standalone installment of the “heart-pounding fantasy romance series, Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers”, and is also set in the same world as the Demons of Frosteria series.
I am not familiar with the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers other stories (though you bet your bottom I’ll be checking them out now!), but I am a sucker for those Demons of Frosteria, so I knew I had to hop on this ARC when I saw it!
What I liked about the book:
1. I love seeing a big, tough playboy fall to his knees for the badass FMC who doesn’t want anything to do with him! It definitely makes the nerdy girl in me who finds guilty pleasure in the jocks/bros squeal with delight!
2. My god, Morozko’s and Eirah’s chemistry was INSANE!!!! I swear, every time he called her little bird, my heart fluttered like it had wings!
The setup as a prisoner/master and the way his feelings for her changed completely reminded me of Pestilence by Laura Thalassa, which I absolutely loved! Apparently, this is just another kink I didn’t know I had until now…
3. I liked both MCs in this book!
Eirah was tough and smart, didn’t bow down to him like everyone else, and was legitimately due what she was ultimately gifted in my opinion. She is by far my favorite FMC in the Demons of Frosteria world thus far!!!
Morozko was another misunderstood, alpha bad boy with a tragic past who was healed by true loves powers. And as much as he could be a “prick” at times, he was definitely intelligent and really just trying to do his best to save everyone. What’s not to love about that!?!?
I also liked the main side characters (Eirah’s father, her BFF Saren, Morozko’s closest confidants). There were no characters I didn’t like, which is rare for me. A+ on the characters!
4. I loved the history behind how the krampi came to be!!! I’m a sucker for historical/mythological tales, and the history that was developed around this very much fed that hunger! It really tied all the tales in the series so far together!
5. With the forced proximity, prisoner/master relationship, and the huge castle, I couldn’t help but get Beauty and the Beast vibes, which is NEVER a bad thing for me!
6. The fighting scenes were so descriptive and wonderfully written, I felt like I was in battle with them.
I also felt like the scenes centering on their sexual relationship were perfect given the setting. I’m not expecting pages and pages of graphic scenes when they’re literally in battle just waiting for something else to happen. What we did get were a couple of nice little scenes that had just enough dirty talk and spice to get you through 😉
7. I. FREAKING. LOVE. THE. COVER!!!! Oh my goodness, from the details in her outfit I totally didn’t notice at first, to the look in his eyes and the colors behind them, this cover is magnificent and perfectly encapsulates this book!
Final Thoughts: Perfect installment to the Demons of Frosteria series that I can’t wait to read more of!

I honestly don’t know where to start. I never write reviews but this was so hard to read it physically pained me.
Pros : the familiars seem nice and harmless, also the FMC turns into an owl which is pretty sweet
Cons : everything else.
There is no world building, I DNFed at 65% and I still have no clue what the magic system is, what powers the MMC has or even what magic the FMC seems to have (there’s a lot of blue light). At around 50% he is having visions of the main ✨drama✨ for the second half of the book, which renders any intrigue or mystery about the plot completely useless and predictable.
The dialogue is stilted and cheesy and the conversations often make zero sense. The MMC is constantly licking his canines while the FMC is about as shallow as a puddle (I cannot understand reviews saying she is “strong”, where? She flip flops all over the place and has zero conviction).
There is no tension between the two main characters at all, they supposedly hate each other for no clear reason and then after the least exciting brush with death ever (she passes out in a bath tub - still not that clear as to why? Also, Morozko seems to bring her back from the dead with his as-yet-unexplained magic, but it’s not clear why he can’t do this at other times like when the village is attacked. And typically, our FMC doesn’t even think to ask him because she has literally no thoughts of her own). The MMC is then suddenly into her despite not being remotely attracted to her physically before this and still not really saying anything positive about her.
The whole plot feels rushed and shoehorned in, like the authors had 5-6 ideas of “plot points” to happen in the book and then filled the rest of the space with some words and a relationship as an afterthought.
So little of this book holds up to any kind of scrutiny, and don’t even get me started on the fact that the king is all het up because the sacrifice didn’t happen and it’s threatened the whole kingdom, and he’s really bothered by this, but not enough to have reminded the village why it’s important. That’s beneath him apparently, but it’s never really explained why he would feel that way. Everything that goes wrong for the characters is so incredibly avoidable and it’s just not believable that anyone would behave the way they do.
I haven’t read anything else by these authors and after this I don’t think I ever will.

oof. I had high hopes for this one, and it's so pretty. But this felt so underbaked. We never get to connect to our MCs, their banter (if one can call it that) was severely lacking. He is just awful and I was never rooting for this relationship. The smut was SO BAD. I get authors have to start somewhere, but I'm convinced these authors grew up in purity culture and haven't quite deconstructed yet.
Overall this felt like a juvenile YA paranormal romance masquerading as an adult book.

So… the writing was not as shit as I feared, but what the hell was that plot? While it was not massively present, when stuff actually did happen, it was just so damn random, non-sensical, rushed, and occasionally dumb. The dialogue was often terrible, the characters were one-dimensional, the romance was severely underdeveloped and lacked chemistry, and the world building was just bad

While I do have a weak spot for enemies to lovers romances, I feel like the shift from enemies to lovers happened too quickly in this book, and not enough time was spent actually building up the relationship.

I just didn’t like this at all. It felt immature and rushed. Eirah reminded me of an insufferable female lead in an indie movie and Morozko had the personality of a nail. They also lacked any real chemistry.

Also, the plot was wild and didn’t seem well thought out - The villagers have to sacrifice an animal every year to keep a seal intact, but they don’t one year and the king has visions and takes a maiden to sacrifice instead but he never does and she randomly turns into an owl, gets magic, becomes immortal and is a witch? Changelings attack the village because a sacrifice was never made and they can inhabit human’s bodies and the only way to get them out is to whip the human??? They have one chaotic battle and have to wait 2 weeks for a full moon to save the kingdom but then the books ends and the “saving the kingdom” part is hastily written in the epilogue.

DNF’d at 30% - I wanted to like this book but the main characters were wildly unlikeable. The names were confusing as hell to keep track of. The book itself is in need of some serious editing to make it flow better. Might give it another shot in the future because Im enjoying the standalone series that it was for, but for now, I’m not pushing myself to finish a story I can’t get into.

Characters: Oh, gosh, here we go. We have Eirah (FMC) and Morozko (MMC). Morozko started off, in the very first chapter, incredibly unlikeable. He wasn’t morally grey, he was annoying and prejudiced against humans, and his actions didn’t make sense. His entire personality is acting like humans are making a conscious decision to upset him. I never really understood his magic, either. He was the Frost King so he could manipulate snow/ice/cold but he could also light all the candles and start a fire with the snap of his fingers? What? I don’t find Eirah as childish as some others have said, but I did find her slightly annoying. She is stubborn at random times, and kind of immature. She has a pretty cool gift and I like that she makes toys because it’s unique. I ended up liking the way they acted about halfway through the book. I was only able to do so when I forced myself not to think about why it didn’t make any sense. I did not like how Eirah had unlimited power, she could literally do anything and paired with Morozko’s visions, it made the book very boring.
Plot/Story: The entire plot hinges on the king deciding to keep a secret for no reason except that he doesn’t like mortals, but his hate for them is not explained. It’s avoidable to the point of absurdity. I can’t stand it when we don’t have a solid base. Even Eirah wonders why no one will talk about why the sacrifices have to happen if the reason is good. And it is a good reason but it’s kept a secret for no reason. Their reasoning for mortals not remembering is a cop-out, too. They remember the queen and tell stories about her so why would they forget such an important detail? Also, things would be changed chapter to chapter. I am guessing that the two authors switched between them to write the chapters, one for Morozko and one for Eirah. A prime example of this is when it’s decided that they’ll be spending the night in Vinti after the first attack, both MCs are there and then the next chapter Eirah says she ‘heard’ they were staying the night there… girly you were there when it was decided. Yeah, you heard it, straight out of Morozko’s mouth. That ending was atrocious, what a let down, wow.
Romance: I didn’t see it at all. Their hatred starts deep in their bones (I don’t get it because the reasons for the hate don’t amount to much and certainly not the amount of hate they have), and then it’s just… gone. She gets sick and then suddenly they get along. It’s not like he’s spending time taking care of her and they’re bonding. Ulva is taking care of her. Also, they use the same nickname of ‘little bird’ as the MMC in Slaying the Shifter Prince used and that’s just terrible. I mean, seriously? How unoriginal. Not that ‘little bird’ is original in the first place but this is part of the same series and you don’t think to change it up? Every time he called her ‘little bird’ I wanted to scream, Slaying the Shifter Prince at least had meaning behind the name because the FMC ‘flew’ in her silks. For a large portion of this Morozko isn’t attracted to Eirah at all… and not in the denying-his-feelings way, he literally isn’t even attracted to her. Why am I supposed to care about them?
General: The best part of this book was getting a map in the beginning, I love maps. However, we didn't even use the map! We go between Vinti and the palace... that's it. What was the point of the map? I wanted to DNF multiple times. The only reason I didn’t was because I wanted to get through this one before I moved onto the next in the series. ‘Bah’ was an annoying word that Eirah used way too much, but she used ‘prick’ thirty-seven (37!!) times. Jesus, there are only 25 chapters!
Overall:
If you came here after reading Slaying the Vampire Conqueror and Slaying the Shifter Prince, hoping for another solid book to continue the series… go ahead and skip this one. You’ll be better off for it. I am debating pausing my continuation of Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers because of the bad mood this one put me in. How unfortunate.

For a large portion of this Morozko isn’t attracted to Eirah at all… and not in the denying-his-feelings way, he literally isn’t even attracted to her. Why am I supposed to care about them?
General: The best part of this book was getting a map in the beginning, I love maps. However, we didn't even use the map! We go between Vinti and the palace... that's it. What was the point of the map? I wanted to DNF multiple times. The only reason I didn’t was because I wanted to get through this one before I moved onto the next in the series. ‘Bah’ was an annoying word that Eirah used way too much, but she used ‘prick’ thirty-seven (37!!) times. Jesus, there are only 25 chapters!
Overall:
If you came here after reading Slaying the Vampire Conqueror and Slaying the Shifter Prince, hoping for another solid book to continue the series… go ahead and skip this one. You’ll be better off for it. I am debating pausing my continuation of Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers because of the bad mood this one put me in. How unfortunate.

I've loved each book in the Demons of Frosteria series, so I was super excited to read this one and get to know Eirah and Morozko. Throw in a touch of Beauty and the Beast and I am hooked! Eirah was amazing, and I rooted for her from the beginning. Morozko had to work for it, but I enjoyed falling in love with him. It was so interesting to discover how it all started in Frosteria, and I really loved each of these characters. I have so many new books I want to read, but honestly all I want to do is reread this and then Frost Mate and Frost Claim. I just really love this world.

Eirah is such a fantastic character. Her growth from a human toy maker to what she becomes and accomplishes is amazing. King Morozko is a great character too, his childhood and what he’s had to overcome, made him a strong King, but Eirah helps his growth in becoming a more compassionate King.
The world building is very interesting, in Frosteria you have an Ice palaces and ice houses. The descriptions of the inside of the palace are really cool to visualize. Of course I’d love to see a Frosteria movie, as long as they stuck to the books!
The heat in this book definitely makes your toes curl, and the romance has you swooning!! I loved this book so much and would love more of Frosteria, and more of Morozko and Eiran!!

After loving the previous two books in this series, I’m sad to say that I didn’t enjoy this one. I don’t know if it was because of the third person POV, but I felt so uninterested and detached from the characters. The FMC Eirah came off as annoying and foolish rather than a strong female lead. While it was nice having dual POV, I didn’t particularly like Morozko. He was just so bland. The plot was also so boring. The book is on the shorter side, but I had such a hard time getting through it. Overall, this book was just a miss for me.

I finished this and I’m not sure why. This book lacked flow, it lacked chemistry, it lacked a good plot. I read it as part of the mortal enemies to monster lovers series but it just wasn’t it. The MC’s made no sense together. There was no build up at all! Even the story line seemed rushed to a certain extent and the pace at which things moved just seemed highly unlikely. The ending was disappointing and so lackluster. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this 🙃

Absolutely loved this book! The characters draw you in and they feel so real. I loved getting to glimpse how it all started. Morozko has become of my book boyfriends and i love getting to see who he truly is throughout the pages. Beauty and beast vibes too!! Highly recommend!!

Slaying the Frost King by Candace Robinson and Elle Beaumont is a unique fae romance with an exciting plot filled with action and suspense. The story's surprisingly dark tone added depth to the tale of two enemies turned lovers, and I found both positive and negative aspects of the novel.
This story centers around Morozko, the Frost King, and Eirah of Vinti, a humble toymaker.
Morozko's people are required to perform an annual animal sacrifice to ward off vicious creatures that threaten to overrun their world - a curse imposed by Morozko's mother. However, the villagers refuse to continue with the yearly sacrifice, which leads Morozko to initiate the selection process for a human sacrifice to appease the land's bloodthirst. In a vision, Morozko sees Eirah and chooses her for the sacrifice, despite not fully understanding his vision but believing she is someone significant in breaking the curse.
What follows is a battle of wills, supernatural discoveries, and a formidable army of ice, culminating in a rushed conclusion that left me wanting more. As I reached the end of the final chapter and discovered that I had entered the Epilogue, I wondered if I had overlooked something. It felt like there was still more to be revealed in this tale.
While I appreciated Morozko's blunt honesty and the author's intention to depict him as having a cold demeanor, I found his insensitive remarks toward Eirah and the continuous reminder of his past lovers irritating. It became challenging to fully embrace the romance and connect with the emotionally distant King.
Despite my criticisms, I still found Slaying the Frost King to be an enjoyable adventure with great world-building and unique plot twists that kept me intrigued.

At first I thought I was going to really like this one... The first 80-100 pages or so seemed good! After that point every connection I had to the story or characters started disintegrating. I feel like a lot of scenes were rushed a little too much. I know it was a short book but the situations could have maybe been given a little more depth to make the reader care more or feel the emotions more. I could have done without the overuse of "digits" because for some reason that really got to me lol and the spicy scenes were lackluster in general.

This is the 3rd book in the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers series (although each book is written by a different author and is a standalone), which is probably the only reason I finished it.
I think there may have been a good story in there, but I struggled with the writing. Connecting with a writer is subjective, at least in my opinion, so I don't want to discourage anyone from giving this a shot, but there were some issues.
The writing was all over the place, repetitive, and in several places a little jarring. There are a few places where I feel like language was substituted in to give variety, but it didn't match what was going on or the tone of the scene. The animosity between the two MC's was pretty light, which wasn't a big deal, but the dialogue was completely unbelievable at times, which was. I don't feel like I got to know any of the characters, so I wasn't invested in the story. The MMC's backstory isn't fleshed out except when needed to make him more approachable, but even then it's pretty thin. The FMC's "development" isn't explained and is used to fix the seemingly hopeless situation as needed, which was frustrating.
All in all, not one I'll reread.

What really bothered me was the pacing of this book. It was so bizarre. The beginning 40ish% had me hooked, but everything following just slowly aggravated me. This was only made worse by the visions the MMC had basically spoiling any sense of suspense and mystery which I thought was a shame, if the big thing they needed to do was something they figured out from small clues from visions I feel like it would have been so much more satisfying. The words bah and prick were used so much, I’m all for a catchphrase for a character, but these featured more than that. What I DID enjoy was the romance of the characters, but again the pace did make it a little weird. I really enjoyed the blend of instant attraction/love, in this case, with good old enemies to lovers and some slow burn. The beginning of the book still made it good though, I can see what the concept was, and I think it was great, it just needed a little something to make it more of a memorable story that I would reread. The change of how I felt from the mystery and investing start to the end is the main reason I can’t rate it above a three stars.

Yiiiiikes. This book is not even remotely the same caliber of writing as the first two in this series. The writing and world are extremely flat. The characters have no personality at all and there is no chemistry between the love interests. The writing is so flat I wondered if maybe English wasn’t their first language and there was something lost in translation? The story jumps all over the place, hardly makes any sense at all, and ends completely abruptly with zero resolution. Absolutely do not recommend.
