A Ray Drexler novella set deep beneath the Antarctic ice…
In the frozen Antarctic wilderness, a team of Australian scientists vanishes without trace. Their last known location: a remote Chinese research station. Trouble is, the outpost was abandoned years ago…
When Major Ray Drexler and his highly trained DARC team is sent to investigate, it becomes clear this won’t be the straightforward search-and-rescue they were promised.
In fact, they’ve just been dropped into hell.
The outpost has been hiding a terrifying secret. Something that defies belief. Something that shouldn’t exist.
Something that has escaped its icy prison and is now hellbent on hunting them down, one by one.
Drexler and his men came here on a rescue mission. Now they’ll have to save themselves, and prevent an ancient enemy from escaping to the outside world…
This is a novella set in the ‘Eight’ universe and follows on from the events in The Alpha Species.
Ties in with EIGHT ,& ALPHA SPECIES, the other titles from same author although Amazon didn't have it as part of the 'series' when I read those. Very much ( like the others) a story unto itself but left hanging for a sequel (or several). Competently written, has been proofread well and an interesting premise. Characters backstories are hinted at presumably to be fleshed out in sequels ? Found out at the end that the author isnfrom my hometown that was a small surprise.
The story started ok but as advanced a total loss. The author tried to provide info of the team but is better not know. They're times were cut & paste was overused.
The characters, specifically the Major are so drab, Stony and lost in space. The rest of the characters were lost.
It's one of those books that u started and at the end u decided that no more books from this author was needed.
A fast paced sci fi action horror. I do so love the adventures into Antarctica. The sheer terror as a whiteout blizzard occurs, being underground and facing....something. Its a hreat read and I continue to enjoy this author's work.
A very good book, well written and intense! The characters were described well, as was the unusual bad reason, the story was surrounded. I enjoyed the book.
