I give The Inner Path of Writing fourout of five stars!
I felt this book tried to do too much and at times it felt a bit pandering.; every chapter it advertises the website and profile of someone whose work is included in the book. I feel it should stick more to strictly writing and writing tactics instead of trying to blend other subjects into writing. Every chapter we are introduced to someone's writing style which felt a bit jumbled and dizzying. I could hardly feel the coherent thoughts of the author. Every chapter someone new. It is a collection of thoughts and tips from various writers.
Most of the book is a collaboration of other writers' work presented in this book; thus, it is hard to get an accurate feel of the author's writing style like in The Elements of Style by Willian Strunk White. I prefer to have one writer giving tips and valuable information with an occasional chapters or text of other authors, but not the majority of the book. For some readers and writers, they will appreciate the diversity, but for me it felt mumbled, and I did not have trust in everyone's writing style and tips. There were some good tips, and I do feel the reader can get some useful information from this book, but I wish the author would have included more of his own thoughts and tips instead of relying on family and friends to make up the majority of the book. However, I do think it is still a good reference point.
I found the approach and content of this book different from most books for writers on writing. Each chapter draws on some of the lessons from leaders across various platforms and it's not just on how to write, but also how to think, take good care of your health and I found this more like a long term book to have to always refer to when going through various processes of writing. Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
This is the perfect book for the writer who's beyond the usual how-to, introductory book for beginners, treating us to great insights and inspirations. It was a smooth read (I took lots of notes!) and I'm definitely going to read it again. My favorite writing inspirational books give me a boost each time I visit with them, even for a chapter. Thsi is definitely one of those books that keeps on giving.
