4.5 out of 5 stars!
Wow. What a beautifully fitting end to a great Trilogy! King did a really good job at packing the punch, drama, suspense, and twist and turns to the end of the series. I mean, WOW! It's all I can say.
That, and I'll probably be pulling The Saving Angels Trilogy off my shelf MANY times in the future. I literally just finished this book, and I'm still in shock. I'm definitely going to keep tabs on King so I can read whatever else she has coming out!
Forgotten Souls left Krista (and me!) positively heartbroken. I couldn't believe Mark would just leave like that. Someone was up. And I was hoping it was just a mind trick on Krista, or Victor somehow brainwashed Mark.
The Ascended starts off with that same heartbreak. And not just Krista's heartbreak over Mark, but her heartbreak on leaving her Mom for "college" (which is just actually a plot to go and find Mark). I think this hit home with me, because I'll be starting college soon enough! Krista just really wants to find Mark. And it's understandable. King does a very, very good job at NOT making Krista seem whiny and nag-ish. Krista realizes what happens, and doesn't complain. She moves on. She takes on a leadership role as the Ascended of the three groups (yes, King brings the other two groups of Links back. Which was exciting!).
I will admit, I thought the mountain parts of the book were slow. I mean, here they are trying to rescue Mark and the remaining pair of Links from Victor's grasp, and Krista is getting sick from the nylon of the tents. They even sit around a fire and just chill. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but if my ex- boyfriend who I still loved with every bit of me was in peril danger, I wouldn't be sitting around singing camp fire songs.
And once they finally got to Victor's lair. Oh my goodness, those last 100 pages were page-turners, page-turners, page-turners! So make sure you are not busy or have any plans while you're reading them! Because you won't want to be interrupted!
The ending threw me for a complete and utter loop. We finally meet Mark's sister, Harmony, and she's not at all like I hoped she would turn out to be. I was shocked when I learned the truth about her and what she was doing. I seriously couldn't believe it. Good job, King , Harmony was perfect!
And... poor Haniel. We learn a lot more about him in this book. I found in extremely comical that Sam and Krista were trying to teach him human slang and facial emotions. That was brilliant. I could picture a seven-foot-tall Archangel trying to be sarcastic, easily. Brilliant! But... his ending, oh gosh, I don't think I stopped reading to even grasp the concept of his demise. I was hoping it was a all a joke just to distract Victor.
Ahhh... and the Prequel of Victor and his wife, Jenna. That was awe-inspiring. I couldn't picture Victor's descent better than what King wrote about. Perfect. Though, it broke my heart to know that Jenna didn't even see it coming.
The only reason why this book wasn't perfect was the slow mountain scene, and the many, many, many grammatical mistakes and misspellings in this book. My whole series has bad mistakes. I don't know if they were just early copies, or what, but I was to the point where I didn't want to read them, to be honest.
Glad I did, though!
Can't wait for more from King!
